Sadly its not the techs fault... the "district manager" and other franchse owners encourage cheating... helps profits.

The Techs have free-will, so they should get busted too.

^^Exactly what I was gonna say, they are just as liable if not more than the district manager b/c they actually performed the act...

so, how about the reasons why insurance costs doesn't make sence

the only ones liable here are the mechanics and their immediate managers, unless there is proof that complaints had reached the district manager and anyone inbetween. Then liability goes all the way up the chain.

Reasons such as this is why you take your car to the dealer, and follow the maintenence schedule in the owner's manual, not what some shade tree mechanic at Jiffy Lube tells you.

Obviously Jiffy Lube has a policy about not speaking to reporters which is why the district manager was lying about who he was (incidentally making himself look like more of an ass)

I've actually caught a couple of shops in scams like this where something wasn't replaced when the customer was told otherwise.

Something seems fishy about that Jeep's fuel filter though. Nth, do you know if the filter on those is really right off the top of the fuel tank? For some reason i seem to remember doing on along the frame rail on a Jeep before...

Take reports like this with a grain of salt. They tend to add a little extra drama to the situation.

this is also why you do it your self and if you arent confident enough in your ability you find a nice little family owned shop. it will cost more then jiffy lube but less then the dealer and they actually take pride in the work they do, wether its an oil change or a whole engine rebuild!!

That's not always true either Ronin. most dealers are fairly competitive with local repair shops these days. High ends will surely cost a bit more, but you gotta pay to play :D

I could make a comment that they profiled the minorities in that piece, but that would be playing the race card and that would be wrong :P

i used to work at a kwik kar and we got cars that came in all fucked up and the last place that serviced it was jiffy lube. i would never take my car to jiffy lube. but we also got cars that got messed up at a dealer. if i didnt do my own oil change i would watch whoever was doing it to make sure they did everything right.

Damn, that is some shit. I hope that they get sued because of this. That is some bullshit though, it's hard to find someone making an honest buck anymore.

Remember a few years ago Sears got sued because they didn't change out the oil completely? Or in some cases didn't change the oil at all.
