This is a short video "showcase" of the C5 Z06 - it is a sample preview of the upcoming video format/technique we will be using for future road tests (and their are a lot coming up).
Please comment - likes, dislikes and criticisms..
Not that I have to take the advice :P ;)

Pretty cool video. I basically agree with Captain Slow and the sound of that V8 is super nice. Some nights shot could be cool and maybe som footage when you break traction in corners, even if I know what you think about drifting
Looking forward to see those upcoming road tests..

I think there's a few too many drive-bys from the same angle. The sound is good. The sound when shooting the interior had a lot of wind noise. I'm not sure what technique you could use to lessen the wind noise so you can hear the motor more. I like the shots of the outside, while following with another car, because you can see the shape of the car better than when it's flying by at 100mph.

What is everyones obsession with "breaking traction" in corners?

You noticed the diff. camera views of the same event right? ;)
Strange - when hollywood shows 3 views of the same event, people cream their pants :P

Its a preview and the 'wind noise" is simply because the window was open and the mic wasnt tucked away as normal - we were pressed for time to bring the concept to reality so never redid some shots - but surely you have seen every other one of my vids.. no wind noise ;)
I like the shots of the outside, while following with another car, because you can see the shape of the car better than when it's flying by at 100mph.
However, the only way you will safely and semi legally be able to show "higher speed" footage is if you have the car whiz" by - chase car scenes on public roads will always be limited in speed etc - its just safer to do it that way.
And we all know had this same video (with the same "repreated drive by's, wind noise and straight roads) been made with an F40, there would be not a single complaint :P ;)

I'm not sure I've seen your other videos...linkie? :?:
I like some home videos where they shoot with a lipstick camera on the end of a stick, so you can get right up against the car, while cruising. Those sometimes turn out really well.
I'd like to see a few more shots from the rear of the car, because what's pretty pimp about the car is the big-ass footprint it has on those tires and how flat and wide the car is overall.
Will your showcase have static interior and motor shots with commentary? Like a car review? Tied with clips to the LeMans car and discussion about how the Z06 really came on to the scene in a storm, making all the Italians step it up some more?
True. An F40 video with it idling in the parking lot at different angles would get a bunch of love. hahaha. Then again, if it were you shooting it, it'd get a little less...

Great feedback - thanks.

I have learnt a long time ago that 99.9999999999999999999999999% of people online hate the Z06 with a rabid passion - there would be no point or reward in trying to showcase anything Corvette ;)
Future showcases will be all the "other" poser stuff that gets attention for no reason :)

The F40 could be shot at night with no flash from a camera phone in your pocket and people will nominate ot for an emmy.
Then again, if it were you shooting it, it'd get a little less...
This you know to be true.. there are some people on JW that could actually post a picture of a pile of shit... and they would 16,000 views, 12,000 positive replies, 14,500 attaboys, 3 marriage proposals and a nomination for POTM.. ;) :P

Ever thought of getting one of those car camera systems? I know they aren't the cheapest, but it's something to think about if this video editing thing gets serious. The ones that show speed, throttle input, brake input, g forces and whatnot are pretty cool. Gives you an idea of what exactly is going on.
Some angles I think are neat would be:
On the front bumper, low to the ground. It really gives you a good sense of speed.
On the fender, so the lens is pointed straight past the center of the wheel so you can see it turn. It would work well on a track if you have one car chasing another, since you'll see both cars.
With in car shots, being able to see the speedo is nice. As is seeing the steering wheel being worked, especially if the car is on a race track.
Mounting th camera to the outside of the car right behind the door would be cool IMO. With some adjustment of the zoom (or a wide angle lense) you would be able to inside the car as well as in front of the car.
Another cool angle (although risky IMO) to get a shot of a car from a different car would be to put the camera on the side of the car down very low. As in at the very bottom of the door. Angle it out far enough to not see the car it's mounted on and also pointed up far enough to get all of the other car and the background scenery. Having the zoom wide enough to capture the whole car in the picture for a second while it passes (or keeps pace) with the other car would be cool too. Imagine a 3/4 shot from very low, only in motion.
Another angle I've liked is seeing the feet of the driver. Of course, this is only neccessary if there is some fancy pedal work going on. Heal and toe downshifting and such.
I understand the time constraints being responsible for the wind noise in the video. But it's something I hate. Do what you can to eliminate it please!
I don't particularly like still photos in videos. Just seems odd to me. Kind of defeats the purpose of video and seems like a waste. The only redeeming fact of the ones you used was that the sound didn't stop. You could still har the car at full chat. Nothing is more annoying than hearing a car go full tilt only to cutout to sit and silence while looking at still photos. I could have done that (and saved a lot of Hard Drive space) by just looking at a photo!
Another annoyance. Camera vibration. I'm sure it's hard to completely eliminate, but it's nice to see videos without it.
P.S. The Vette sounds great!
do I really need to comment?? :P :P
Yeah - sorry about the Pr0n false alarm there... :P

I liked it. I really like the concept for showcasing cars as well.
The static pictures and the cuts went by a little too quick IMO I think if you lingered on the details like the engine bay, interior, etc a little longer it might give viewers a better taste of what the car looks like, inside and out. You could also do something like a slow walkaround with the video camera also.
I wasnt sure at first about putting the pictures in until I realized what you were trying to accomplish (if im not mistaken) of showing the whole package. With all moving shots its often hard to take a good look at the car, especially at speed. For this you could also try slowing the camera down as the car passes during one sceen to give people ample time to view the car, though it may present a resolution problem.
If you are going to supply a multitude of pictures and info outside of the video, then all of the above may not be needed.
This would be an amazing sales presentation to perspective buyers of a car. Supply a downloadable zip filled with various pics, info and a short video showing the car in action.
Maybe a quick information screen in the beginning would be nice too listing some vital info about the car featured like hp, engine size, etc. Nothing too lengthy, just the "meat" of the car.
I like 666fast's idea of being able to see the speedo or possibly the tach to show the car's true potential.
But I think its a great idea for, well, showcasing particular cars. I like the fact that the video is all about the car too. No music, no talking just the essentials. I think too many people get carried away with overly artistic shots and metaphors equating the car to some mythical beast or other such nonsense.
Anyway, enough of my incoherent babbling. Job well done! :D

We have a winner!!! You sir got it ;)
This is exactly what was trying to be achieved - this actual video was a "quick and dirty" that was used to sell the concept to some folks - and believe it or not, that "less than 3 minute" clip was an effort involving a crew of 3, 4 cameras and about 3 hours of actual filming.

Yep - we were pressed for time to get the filimg done and without a chance to reshoot footage with bad audio etc and no time for more static shots this is what we ended up with - but for sure lingering on the engine and pausing inside to admire the interior is a must.

This is probably why all those videos on youtube and streetfire couldn't help sell free money ;) you never get to appreciate the car visually as a whole.
Slowing down the scene as the car passes is a great idea - we were thinking of even an actual slow drive by to maintain the resolution. (all things that take yet more filming time - setting up for each scene is a 30 minute endevour - so we want to maximize and optimize time spent (not that I won't love spending another 12 hours with the CTR, the problem is tying up the test driver and other crew for the same time.)

;) Great minds think alike... (or was it fools seldom differ? ;))

We covered this with the parties concerned - and the fear is seeing the speedo displaying illegally high speeds for one thing, and then the careful balance between thrilling show-off and car-abuse.. especially for very high dollar rare cars that are for sale.. Imagine the guy shoping for an L88 ... he may not be that impressed by the burnouts and drift scens ;)

No music.. no talking -- no artsy fartsy interpretive dance moves.. just cars.. cars .. cars... :P ;)

no artsy fartsy interpretive dance moves..
I guess my cameo is out then
I hadnt considered the legality of showing the speedo but its a good point as well as trying NOT to break the car
It is evident that you have some access to some rare and desirable cars so I think this is a really cool idea. Some of those cars im sure most people will never be fortunate enough to see let alone hear. :D
