Now now -- Ferrari lovers are the posers... Porsche enthusiasts are drivers... it's not about the badge for Porschefiles... its about the drive.. the badge is secondary.. ;)

And yes, I know ppl would say a badge is a badge and there are better cars with less impressive badges, but really can't help. Seeing that badge makes me feel good! Sorry RC :D
Definitely what counts is the sensations I get at the wheel, and they are top stuff, but still, seeing that badge on my car is not totally shitty :D

Lap? No - you are supposed to just stand there leaning against the fron fender.. looking.. and nodding your head at passing Civics...

I see the M3 girls doing it to the TSX's all the time...

Lovely car TT! It looks to be in fantastic condition. And from what I can recall the engine was praised for being very torquey.

I am sure the car will be real fun to drive. A lot of people use their 944s for autocrossing - its perfectly balanced and very agile - so the car has lots of potential if you choose to use it that way!

Post some pics of the interior when you get a chance.

Also post some driving impressions after you have driven the car for a couple weeks.

TT
08-27-2006, 04:49 PM
I will, I will.

And yes, definitely those 280 Nm of torque feels plenty enough to just slot an higher gear and keep the stick there as long as you want.
On the mountain pass I had to take this weekend twice to go and come back from Lausanne, it was obviously so much easier than with my 320 which had to be revved like hell to stay on boil and carry decent speed. The 944 just swallow those hairpins like a straight line, pulling away in 2nd or 3rd with no fuss when the BMW was struggling in 2nd and has sometimes to be dropped even in 1st to jump toward the next corner.

Also, I am quite surprised by the reaction of everybody about the S2, online or not.
I know most ppl tend to be polite and nod and smile when they see you are so happy about something, even when they disagree or thing the given thing is utter crap.
Yet, in this case it really seems everybody likes this little sweetie!
At first I was sure to just read many "too bad it's not a real Porsche" or "ah, why white?" or "uhm.. looks cheap and old"...
Instead, everybody just stare at it for minutes, walking around it once, twice or even more, ask to sit inside and just congratulate me.
Same goes here online!

Definitely all of this makes me think I really did the right thing!

The first 1000 or so km are gone in a glimpse, can't wait for the next ones to come and go!

Beautiful 944 TT!!! Since I'm finally off the baby-bottle as it were and have to find a car of my own, I've been looking at the 944, 300ZX, RX7 and a few others, so I'm really interested to hear what you think of the 944, as it's definitely the top choice on my shortlist.

I didnt talk to the owner since there were too many people round and I coulndt find him but from this guy I know he said he has seen it in the Autocross club or whatever of Tallasshaee, FL and he kills em all the time.

Anyways nice job on the purchase! Enjoy it. :D

Congrats on the P-car it's a gorgeous setup. Now you can come up to Belgium next May for Porsche Days at Spa-Francorchamps and take part in the experience. As for the wheels those are the correct wheels for that year and the Fuchs, as you said, are for the older models of 944's and so on.

Enjoy it in good health!

Daily drive, so it won't undergo major mods.. not untill I'll finally find a good 964 to buy and that day I might start modding the S2 for track use ;)

im gonna ask a question and im probably a total retard for not knowing.....to me i always thought of the 944 as a turbo and thats it,the one i went in was justa modded 944 turbo.....now over the past few days i now know of one called a 944 turbo S2,what difference is that to a regular turbo? also today i had my car in for the MOT and the woman who works there has just got a 944 and im sure it said on the back "944 CS".......whats this model?

dutchmasterflex
08-31-2006, 09:13 PM
Not all 944's were turbo. TT has the natuarally apsirated, non turbo version.

TT
09-01-2006, 12:52 AM
The 944 started it's life as a direct evolution of the 924, which had it's Audi engine and wasn't really considered a real Porsche.

The basic models were down to 150 hp. Then there was an S version, with upgraded engine, up to 180 or 190 and other details. Then came the Turbo and S2. The S2 is visually a Turbo lookalike, taking all the body mods from it. But it's a naturally aspired 3 liters 4 pot, not a turbo

As for a Clubsport version, there wasn't an official one afaik. I might be wrong or it could be just somebody's private idea ;)

TT
09-02-2006, 03:54 PM
Honestly, so far no mods aside from the muffler: it's my daily drive, not a track weapon or a ricer basis ;) and I think it's a beautiful shape anyway as it is ;)

Ah dang, indeed those headlamps :D my fav moment every day is when I come back home in the evening and now it's getting dark sooner, so I have to light them up and I can admire that beautiful movement when they pop up :D

I admit I took quite a lot of pics so far but always with headlamps down.. will take some more I guess ;)

BTW, the 944 has some pretty mad high beam lights: 4 of them! 2 in the main lights and two extra ones in the bumper beside the fog lamps! At night is like beeing in an Audi Quattro Group B beast :D

I always enjoyed the pop up headlights. Ah, I still remember the days of the old Corolla :) . I hated the fact that both the NSX and the new Corvette switched over to glass enclosure headlamp systems. Yes they are more modern but there is just so much tradition w/ Popup headlamps.

Well, last time was at 80'000 km in 1997, I guess it was about time ;) the car was privately owned and just displayed at the dealer as a try from the owner ;) I picked it up as it was when the lady decided to sell.

Considering I covered an average close to 1000 km per week since I got it, I guess it's safe to service it as often as needed to keep it fit ;)

It really is alot of fun, and I've learnt so much having someone who knows what their doing beside me on the track. Makes you a safer driver on the road too I suppose, as you can learn the limits of your car and yourself.

Cheapest mod to make you faster is trackwork/training....and its not even that expensive (about $100 for 4-5hrs for me). :D

Wow, how can I've missed this one! Great car, looks in excellent condition, congratulations TT. It's said to be the best handling Porsche of its time, well done.

I just read the full topic, looks like a great deal to me. As Martijn said, it's virtually impossible to find a 944 in that condition for that price. I dig the white color, very nice.

But those dices....ugh :P

I know dingo.. just started doing some karting some time ago (yeh, quite lame to start karting at 27 LOL) and well, it's the most exiting thing I did with a steering wheel in my hands. Of course after a go-kart, to drive a real car, even on track, is a bit pale, muted :D
Still, I'd like to do some laps with my S2, but there are some problems:

No matter if I paid it a good price, a Porsche is a Porsche, and to fix, keep it fit, it will cost money, more than your average car.
The closest track are some 3 hours away, and with my limited spare time, it's too much. and to drive 600 km + a day on track would mean some abuse to the poor car IMO :D
And well, the more I think about it, the more I want a focused car if I'll take it to the track. Not my daily drive. This way if she needs to spend some time beeing repaired, it will be cool, and also, I could go more radical on it and don't be scared about road use, cops and so on ;) or not too much since anyway I would try to keep it road legal.
All in all, I am just trying to restrain myself, because trackdays are addictive, I am sure: you'll do one and you'll be doomed for life, wanting to go back every weekend.

We'll see...

hanks David for those pics. It's not bad actually, the black color I mean, but the design of that wheels is too dated even for the 944. I see many Phase 1 944 with such wheels, but mine is a Phase 2 and even more ultramodern :P an S2. IMO on an S2 it would be a pity to go back to such wheels. More mumbling needed, but the first mod planned is anyway a cargraphic exhaust ;) I won't go for the full thing though. Only central and final part which already have a freeded cat and better sound apparently.
Lowering was planned too, but considering now I can go really everywhere, like in the BMW, I am not sure I desire to get stuck every day, everywhere like it always happened with my old 106... and right now it's really the perfect mix for road use.
As for towing a track car with the S2, why not??? Remember, we are talking about a 3 liters 4 cyl engine, a tractor basically :D And to pull to the track a race prepared 944 with another 944 would be nice for some pics ;)

stmoritzer
09-13-2006, 10:49 AM
Indeed, the wheels would make the car looking older ...

about towing, to see a 944-944 combo

I remember the picture of a LM002 towing a Murci/Diablo
a pimped Cayenne Turbo would be the choice in your case

TT, prepare your current porsche for trackuse and buy a Q7 V12 TDI to haul that porsche arround Europe on a trailer :D Should get you everywhere pretty fast ;)

The day I'll buy a diesel, even a V12, V16 or V20, the world will stop spinning! I'd rather pay 10 euros a liter for a car doing 20 liters / 100 km than having such an horror as a diesel is in my garage ;)

Anyway, that 964 is really beaten down, at least the look: in the past 16 years (a 1990 car, like my S2) it must have spent quite a lot of time under the sun, so the blue paint is really burned on the roof and front.
The white leather shows it's age 10 times more than black one, and it's not that pretty.
But then you step in, you turn the key and the damn thing sounds like new. During the testdrive everything worked very fine: gearbox, brakes and steering: very positive and precise feeling, no prob whatsoever, and for such price you'll NEVER find a good 964 now that prices stopped dropping and began to raise...

A decision will be taken Monday.

Two CHEAP Porsches, remember ;) And considering I don't have to pay a rent here (the apartment where I moved is owned by my family and they are kind enough to let me stay here for free) really helps in my budget ;)

a 964 is really a very good choice, i am thinking about buying one too for quit a long time. it's such a great car and you can do a lot of things with it for good money. raising up a 964 to ~300hp doesn't cost that much and i can tell you then you'll have a hell of a ride for "less" money. compared to all newer models you''ll get the best for you money.

So, change of plan, we bought a white 964 C4 tonight!! YAY!

She should come home in two days, for now shared between me and dad, but he is a tree hugger afterall (he only drives electric cars since 10 years), so he will just use it rarely when he will have to go too far away to use an electric car (max range usually in the 80 km) :D this mean I'll be able to drive it whenever I want and just in case he'll have my S2!! The next year I'll register it together with my 944 on the same license plate and will have a mighty twin-Porsches garage all by myself

Here she is, preliminary pics during test drive! Same year, wheels and color as the S2.. just perfect!

Hey TT, very nice choice on the two Porsches. I have an 86 944 and an 87 944S and I really love them (when they run...). There really is nothing like owning a Porsche. The nice thing about owning a older ones, is that other people with the older Porsches really pay respect to you and will wave at you on the road, it is a really cool feeling.

And someone wrote earlier that it is going to be good to be able to choose between 2 Porsches in the morning. But I can already tell you which one you are going to take, the one that runs..

PM me if you ever need advice if you run into any problems with the 944. I have had the 86 apart in many different ways, from crank bearings, to clutches, to wheel bearings, you name it it has broken on become warn and needed to be replaced.

Congrats though, looks like quite the nice collection.

Finally had the time to drive the 964 on a real road and not just commute to work, and boy it's a funny car!

The only other 911 I drove so far was a 996 and I must say modern Porsches must have lost their "backpack" effect by a great extent. Apparently the 997 is even less 911-ish if you allow me.

This 964 is really a blast and totally different from any other car, FF, FR, or MR I drove so far! The RR layout is really something :D

I'll post the real review once I'll have enough pics to go with it, which is not the case yet :bah:
Tonight I'm gonna drive to Lausanne but to be honest I won't dare to take the 911 right now. Before doing long trips with it I prefer to have the vital parts proprely checked by a Porsche garage. Will do that soon I guess.. as soon as I'll have time

TT,

That 964 C4 looks stunning, to my mind it is one of the most beautiful 911's ever produced. I don't have any problems with the newer models at all, but I'm a huge fan of those where the headlights are standing up straight :) :good: But that's not all. When it comes to the back of car, I like how (allow me to call it) "backlights" runs over the entire back of the car. So, for me this car has all the goodies and "likies" I prefer 8)

And for as far I'm concerned, I think that that 4wheel drive system will serve you well once it starts snowing in the Swiss mountains.

Just like with your 944, I wish you the best of luck with this one. May they live a long and dentless life  :good:

Cheers

Nice pics TT!! That's quite a pair to match.

I haven't congratulated you on the 964 yet, so congrats mate!! That's a superb choice. Any 911 is something very unique IMO!!

I do wonder how the fuck you managed to pull it off to buy two Porsche so soon after each other!!!

good luck with them (read: hope you don't have to pay more for them in the garage then you did buying them)

when you have the time, make a 964 in car video on some Swiss mountain roads!! I think a lot of us would like that.

Never posted the garage as it is now, weird... here it is:
http://img136.imagevenue.com/loc485/th_06632_porsche944s2and964c4_01_122_485lo.jpg (http://img136.imagevenue.com/img.php?image=06632_porsche944s2and964c4_01_122_48 5lo.jpg)

The two white ladies go pretty well together. Too bad for a friend's Audi 80 who uses the free spot we have. Needless to say that when I'll find a proper white car to put there, the Audi will have to find another parking :D

Actually, about a new car, to be honest various options are in the work but needless to talk too much about them untill one will be finalized IMO.

But I'd like to have some feedback about this thought I had: I won't hide the next car has to be a 911, could be newer or older than the 964, must be white. That said, having two cars is ok, having three is what I'd call a mini collection, and a collection IMO must have a theme, needs to make sense. Don't you agree?
I mean, when we are asked to post out top 10 garage the results are usually not that pretty.. to put a Miura beside a CGT and a Brabus S is totally wrong if you are following me.
It's like dressing with your fav suit, your fav tie and fav shoes and realize they just don't go together. Buying cars we like without considering the other ones sharing the same shed could end up in a mess. Maybe I am just paranoid, but what I am saying is that, beside the white color and Porsche badge, would the S2 have its place between two 911?
It's without a shade of a doubt, IMO, much funnier to drive than any 911 and one of the best balancer cars I ever put my hands on. it's in mint condition and with some sensible km behind its back and yet, I am wondering if I shouldn't maybe aim at a 911 lineup (pre watercooled engines, that's a must).

Inputs? The simple idea of parting from the 944 makes me sad, but I have to consider this option being a maniac :D

I would keep the 944 swap the 964 for something a little older, maybe a 3.2 Carrera in Carrera White.

Shame about the Audi, but looks like you have a very high ceiling in there, it would be cool, when you have a 997GT3 to go in there too, to have 2 cars on 2 ramps and 2 underneath.

aww TT plz dont! i love the 944, its so understated and classy, nothing bad of the 964 ofcourse, but the 944 is just such a nice car also from being something else than a 911. BTW no chance of a white '90 porsche 928? that'd complete the '90 model line-up, which would be a proper theme wouldn't it? and after that you can start a new theme :P if you make enough money...

BTW many people consider the 928 as 1 of the finest porsches ever made, it was an amazing cruiser, technologically WAAAAY ahead of its time, and in styling too (the styling of the updated 928's ('87 and onwards) would've been nicely up to date 10 years later...)

[edit] lol pitfield likes thinking big obviously 8) a 997 GT3 lol, why not :)

Considered the 928 option for the '90 theme LOL, just forgot to post about it.

I even tried to find a fucking white 928 with no success so far, but despite everything, I love the 911 so much that having the 964 only doesn't seem enough LOL.

Of course having two separate collections with two different themese would be perfect, but for now I can't.

Also, forgot to mention there is a 2 wheel project in the works too, the make and model is pretty much finalized but not the year, and probably to find the right one I'll need some time, but definitely should look good somewhere in there ;)

The 964 is definitely staying and the target is to have three cars. Also, the 997 GT3 is out of reach for now, but even if it would be a realistic option, I'd prefer to stick to air cooled Porsches for now ;)

Wow TT, you sure are turning into a porsche mad man..

I think you'll regret getting rid of the 944.. If anything keep it as a track car ;) or just an every day car. The 944 doesnt hold its value as good as a 911 right?

With the recent 993 posts, I can't help but mention waiting to find a nice white 993! That would definitely complete the trio.. until you can afford another ;P

Well, the 944 dropped already so much that even selling it, I won't loose a cent, I am pretty much sure, with some effort I could sell it for more than what I paid, and without investing money in it.

But I am pretty happy to see the first reactions seem to be pro-944 afterall.

Maybe afterall the white and Porsche themes are strong enough to make sense :D

Anything that is white and has a Porsche badge fits in, who cares if it is a 911 or not.

WHite 993 Carrera S should be next, hot car! :D

^ agree...

Who cares if it has the engine in the 'wrong' place - the 944 is still a Porsche afterall... and is white! :D :P

Now start looking for a white 993 Cabrio... that would be a nice addition since you don't have any open-top 911 yet

Nice idea!

Im expecting a TT Porsche Donating Month now :P

Don't want to hurt anybody, but I want cars in my garage and a cabrio is everything but a car, especially the ones from the 90 backward, ultra wobblies and soft. Open top driving is good for girls, posers and such, but after 2 sec you realize it ain't a real car if it doesn't have a roof.
Both cars have sunroofs though ;)

Google Ads should be working nicely in SwissCarSightings now, according to TT's new stable! :D

Whatever :D clicks dropped drastically since a while (visitors too) and with the adds I wouldn't even be able to pay a single service every year :D

hahah up to a certain extent i agree with you TT, although you cant deny a lotus elise is a proper car :D and imo a boxter would qualify as well...

some nice pics btw :D

Yep, you partially got me: the Elise is indeed a great car, but I could argue about the Boxster, especially now that the Cayman showed how useless it is ;)

And BTW, today I finally took some pics with lights opened (somebody asked for them some weeks ago)

Nice, I was always fascinated by pop-up lights as a kid....still am. :D

BTW, I jsut wanted to say that I think of you every morning on the way to work. There is a 944 S2 exactly like yours that goes the same way as me at the same time every morning, you instantly come to mind....how gay.

Have to recognize that since I've seen your photos and the review from the 944 S2, the model has grown a lot on me! :D

And, what about a white Cayman S??

It's a wonderful car! :D

Cayman S, considered it actually, possibly a leasing, but decided I'd rather have more cheaper cars rather than the new hit :D

HAHA, nice though!

I saw a white S2 the other day too, and it's so weird to start noticing them while before I never paid attention :(

BTW, it's is not THAT gay :D the day my coworker told me he had a guy sitting near him in the train in the morning and that the guy had the same perfume I use was hilarious and much gayer :D

As for the popup lights, I adore when it's getting dark and I can turn them on

Hehe, sadly no big updates so far.. free time is scarce lately, so it seems for now the car collecting frenezy has to stop.

More important: winter is coming and this mean winter tires... 8 winter tires :bah: luckily 16 inches aren't too expensive, but still..

Anyway, both cars are running great and the rust around the windshield of the 964 was fixed this week, as well as a little prob the sunroof had (difficult to close it)
