Caught testing in Germany, this white prototype looks similar to the test hacks originally spied in Finnish cold-weather testing late last year. But under the skin, this machine features a more performance-focused package.
Details are still relatively scarce about the RS - but it is tipped to use a new twin-turbocharged version of the ubiquitous two-litre TSFI four-cylinder engine. No details on power output yet, but given that single-blower version of that unit already produce 250bhp, it's safe to expect a figure around, or in excess of, 300bhp. That will put the car at least 50bhp above the current range-topper, the 3.2-litre V6 model. The twin-turbo engine is likely to be mated to six-speed manual and S-tronic transmissions.
The TT RS is expected to break cover officially before the end of this year. It will be eagerly awaited by performance enthusiasts - unlike the original car, the new model has good enough driving dynamics to cope with the extra grunt.

A twin-turbo 4 cylinder? Never heard of that being used...I would have that they would have used the varible turbo design used on the 911 turbo to keep turbo lag at minimal. I guess two small turbos would reduce turbo lag. Whatever, i'm not an engineer but i do find it odd.

Yeah, twin turbo on an I4 sounds very strange. Maybe they're using a smaller turbo and a bigger turbo?

maybe it's the same system we find on the Golf GT(170 hp) which has a superchager and a turbo...

Should make for nice lag free fun. I wonder how hard the engine is being pushed...

Not hard, supposedly they have huge expectations for the engine that they have already made clutches rated at 600hp for the GTI. Not that that means a whole lot, but people seem to be really hyped about it.
Ah... the extreme hairdressing games pace car ;)

Could these be pictures of something like TT S-Line or something else, though?
there are also twinturbo subarus, with inline-4, there is nothing strange about that.

Suburus use Flat 4's...
either way, in any twin turbo system there is a small turbo that spins up very quickly, to minimize lag..
RC45, it's a pretty pace car though ain't it? ;)

A) that white TT pictured in the original post is not the RS, it's just a 3.2 V6 with the S-Line wheels and body additions.
Exactly as I suspected.

TSI makes sense rather than biturbo 4-cyl. Or some sort of TSFSI perhaps?

a few things to clear this post up...
A) that white TT pictured in the original post is not the RS, it's just a 3.2 V6 with the S-Line wheels and body additions.
B) the TT-S (not RS) will have a 2.0T engine which will put out a solid 302hp. The 2.0T will be a single turbo, highly tuned likely with double intercooling as the older 1.8T TTs came with.....i know, because a good friend of mine already ordered his ;) Autocar is just idiotic for predicting a "bi turbo"....quite funny.
the RS is gonna greatly exceed these numbers, IF it really does get a green light (which it probably will.....). think more along 350hp... ;)
from rs6.com - may be the TT Quattro Sport, but not TTRS
OK i have take a closer look at the pictures in photoshop.
And i have to say there is more to it, Autocar have hooked up something.
It look like a S-line body kit on the car, but with some small changes.
If you put the TT front view picture in photoshop and make it lighter you will see that there is a honeycomb structure in the side vents.
The S-line pics till now have bars in them.
Futher there are big brake's on the car compare to other TT picture's with the RS4 19" on.
Herr Dr Martin Winterkorn (CEO Audi AG) have test drive a TT with a 300+ hp 3.6 liter FSI VR6 engine in it recently.
Maybe this is the car with that engine in it, departing from the licence plate with ND.
ND = Neuburg-schrobenhausen (Neuburg a. d. Donau) all with in a few kilometers of Ingolstad.
I think this is the TTS 3.6 Quattro with 300+ hp and it can debut on the LA motorshow December 2006 or Detroit motorshow January 2007.

Audi scraps plans to make the TT RS
Audi has scrapped plans for a high-performance variant of its TT sports car, according to the latest issue of the U.K.'s Auto Express. The decision was made in order to leave space for the R8 supercar, the report said. This summer, several European publications reported a range-topping model called the TT RS would debut in 2008 with a 300+ horsepower five- or six-cylinder engine. But according to this new report, the recently-introduced Audi's TT S-Line package will be the sportiest version of the car offered for the foreseeable future.

They should put the S4s V8 in the back of the new TT. That would be fun.

actually...that's not true. count on the 5 cylinder version, with over 325hp. the source of this info comes from someone who has first dibs on an R8 ;)
hey, how you doing, how have you been man?
speaking of which... if its the same guy i think it is; I haven't seen him in about a month... although, VAG news has been running rampant lately it seems...

Whilst we're on the subject of the new TT, it finally arrived last saturday in the Swiss show room. I went to check it out, and it looks quite nice in person. A more agressive front, but I think I might like the old rear a bit more.
The interior however in my opinion has been improved. The transmission tunnel looks and feels better, definitely nicer materials there (I never understood why there was some kind of hard plastic cover on the old one... brought down the rest of the experience IMO). The standard interior with a rubber surface on some parts is so-so, but with the updated leather package, all those parts feel muuuuuuch better with some good feeling real leather in place.
I sould go test drive it sometime.
