A guy i went through STEP with had it done too. cost him 750 per eye i think.
My girlfriend seriously needs it done, but she may not ever be 20/20 due to her astigmatism :(

I can't wait to get it done... To get to wake up and not have to worry about putting in contacts or wearing glasses, and just be able to see right away, not to mention be able to just pass out wherever and whenever without worry.
Congrats on getting it done, all the best on a good recovery.

i think she's already got some frames with the right potential, it all depends on how she does her hair and makeup :D

I heard that procedure messes with your depth perception. have you noticed any effects?

lol also dont do anything that causes extreme G-forces (like flying fighter jets :P ), might rupture your eye
Since u all seem to think of it as special to be able to see when u wake up, im gonna turn off my laptop and give my eyes some rest :) i wanna keep em in good order.

how much was it, also did they say you can't do any contact sports for awhile?
I got it done at the Bochner eye institute in Toronto, right next to Yorkville actually. Its been two and a half weeks. Bochner is one of the three main sites in Toronto. Its them, Herzig and one more which i can't remember. Anyways, there's a couple of other places where you can get it done for relatively cheap. They quote about $400 per eye depending on prescription and other problems. The only thing is that for post op care they add on charges like crazy. My friend went to Yonge and Eglinton Laser and paid $2600 for the surgery and certain post op procedures. Bochner, Herzig and the other one are way more expensive. But they also have better reputations and a better post op care package. For 5 years they'll do anything that needs to be done, say if your eyes weaken or anything and then for the rest of your life, they'll correct any defects for a $200-$400 flat fee. Bochner charges $5400, but they have a deal with my company for $4400 and my company covers $3000 for laser surgery. So i paid $1400 out of my pocket. All things considered not bad. As for contact sports, i don't do any although i guess soccer is sort of contact ( ). But they say not to do any strenuous activity for a couple of weeks. I have a game next monday, which will be 3 and a half weeks. Other than that the doctor said not to lift any weights because they're afraid of pressure build up in your eye which may wrinkle the flap that is created.

Its unbelievable, i keep forgetting i don't have glasses and i keep trying to adjust them. Thanks for the kind words and good luck to you if you do decide to get it done.

Thanks, actually, right after the surgery and for a couple days everything was kind of hazy. thats pretty much gone now, but you definitely notice that headlights are really bright at night. I keep thinking of that song, I Wear My Sunglasses at Night. :D But yeah for the first little bit, i did have to wear sunglasses because it was just too bright.

I heard that happens with some people, (*fingers crossed*), but i haven't experienced it yet. Although i can't stare at a computer for as long as i used to, but c'est la vie.
Thanks to all of you guys for the good wishes :D :D :D

goodduck - As far as i know, the place i work is one of the few in Canada that puts anything towards the surgery. I think Ford may cover a little bit, but i'm not sure.
I hope i don't go blind in 50 years, by then though, i'm keeping my fingers crossed for optical implants, lol.
Coombsie, the procedure didn't hurt at all. The only time you feel anything really is when they put a suction cup over your eyeball before they make the flap. But i guess it depends where you get the procedure done. Some of the cheaper places make the flap using a razor, the place i went used a separate laser to make the flap. They basically "guarantee" it for life. There's nothing they can do if you get old and you need reading glasses or anything, but they can maintain your vision as far as being short sighted. For five years any change in vision will be covered for free. And then after that if there's changes in laser tech or something, there's a flat rate of $200-$400 if your eyes weaken. My eyes were -2.75 and -3.25. Not horrible by any means, but i needed glasses pretty much all the time. For the first little bit in the recovery it feels like you have something in your eye, but after a couple of days that goes away.
I'll be happy to answer any questions you guys have.
