Following rumors over the weekend, General Motors today announced that it will use its Oshawa, Ontario car plant to manufacture the new 2009 Chevrolet Camaro at the end of 2008. GM will immediately undertake a $662 million overhaul of the plant in preparation for production, the company said. The investment will transform the plant into a "state of the art flexible manufacturing facility." Oshawa has twin plants, one of which was scheduled to close in 2008 after GM announced major cost-cutting measures in late 2005. However, some media reports today are suggesting both plants will stay open, while others are indicating jobs will only be saved at one of the plants. Reports this weekend also indicated the Oshawa plant(s) would be used to build other new Zeta-platform cars, with output as high as 500,000 units per year. GM made no mention of these details in its official announcement. Stay Tuned.

In Canada GM has MORE control over the Unions than the UAW (or so I've heard).
Uhhh no..First off, many of the canada plants are the UAW. Much of the reason they stopped the camaro in the first place is the last plant in Canada they wanted to close and they couldnt force them.

Hell the CAW use to be part of the UAW until the early 90s.. as it is they still mostly use uaw even in canada. American automakers- the only automakers in the world who have to pay the janitors 50000 a year because they are union.

In Canada GM has MORE control over the Unions than the UAW (or so I've heard). Funny enough they have no more room in their US factories because they are at Max capacity. They still are selling 10 millon cars a year.

10 MILLION bleedin hell thats alot of cars.

Ya I do - till next week anyway then it's back to school

Thanks for the remarks - My dads a carpenter at GM, so the union voted to do away with his trade and some others in order to secure production in 2008 :|

That sucks man, unions are great while they're protecting jobs, but they become cocksuckers anytime renegotiations come up. Did they help your dad out with any courses or anything?
