My dad is thinking on buying a roadster for my mom to drive on the weekdays (does only 600miles/1000kms per month), and for me and my dad at the weekends.

He is thinking on buying a 2002-2004 car, because as this cars tend to loose value very quickly and are not often daily cars, seems to be the right choice.

Although my advice to go to a Opel Speedster  , my dad thinks it's too radical for my mom, eheheheh

He's thinking on going to a BMW Z3, with the 6 cylinder 2.2, 170bhp engine.

What do you think about the car? I know there are faster cars for the value (i.e. Honda S2000), but my dad wants a car that is reasonably fast, but with classic looks, and some quality. It has to good for daily use, and easibly maintained in a dealer near me. (No Lotus, or Caterhams... LOLOL)

Anyone here has/had one? Other choices??

Would like to hear from you. Thanks! :D

I would so much rather have a used S2k over a Z3 I cant even put it into words!! If you can’t do the S2K (they are all manuals and your mom may not want one) then I would still rather have an MX-5 over a Z3. Or an MR2... I would rather have just about every car I can think of over a Z3.

I used to drive a Z3 and even though it was the basic 1997 1.8 model i was very satisfied.. I sold it about 3 months ago and i miss her sooo much! My opinion is that if you don't want an elise or a speedster you should buy the Z3. The 2.2 model is a 6 cylinder (nice engine note) and it has a reasonable power-weight radio so it will be fast. Don't expect it to be a sports car, it will be soft but for a weekend ride it will be perfect!! The looks are really nice and it has a classic shape that ages very well :!: Good luck and keep us posted!!!! :D :D :D

S2000 is preferable over the Z3. I'd even take an SLK over it.

Womans usually likes more of mercs than BMW's...than i would say SLK, but the Z3 is much of a better looking/perfomance car.

SLK is completely out of everyone's thinkings around here... We're not very fond of Mercedes.

LOL... my mom NEVER drove an auto car..... :D and BTW, she drives kind of fast!! :D :D

Yep, S2K would be the choice, but, I'm not the only one deciding here

go for an 02 Z3 3.0. The 2.5 is fun, but disappointing when compared to the torque of the 3 liter. Especially if you have to get it in an automatic.

Gee folks... I thought I made myself clear.... here in Portugal are only a few automatic cars, and I HATE automatic "sports cars". :D

I only drove once a Z3 1.9 140bhp, and thought it was interesting, not not very fast. The Z3 from 2003, being the version after the restyle, maybe has a different suspension tweaking, no?? And about the 2.2 engine, does it rev?? Or it's a soft and smooth 6 cyl like the 2.0-150bhp?

If you do get a Z3, just be aware that there have been numerous cases of the body structure ripping apart in places because it hasnt got enough reinforcements to keep it intact. Not a big problem for the smaller engine sizes, but many owners have chosen to add extra braces and stuff to strengthen the chassis up.

The Z3 is also one of BMW's less reliable cars, but generally speaking, going with one of the laatest ones, you should be ok.

S2000 would be my choice over the Z3, it can even do 0-60 in 5.5 seconds if you can launch it well.

If you like the look of the Z4, it might even be better suited over the Z3, and their prices have dropped a lot as it hasn't been selling as well as BMW was hoping it would.

LOL@the Z3 being a performance car...

i was saying that the Z3 have both better looking and performance than the SLK, not that the Z3 its a good perfomance car overall.
