At last I have managed to escape from my family duties where I was unexpectedly called away early to...hence I didn't have a chance to wish everyone a Merry Xmas before leaving.

So a belated Merry Xmas to everyone on JW first of all... at least I made it back in time for News Years I guess.

I also got my new computer system and monitors right at the last minute on Christmas Eve...hope you like it.

Welcome back Jabba, and that's an awesome setup... *drool*

Jabba
12-27-2003, 03:31 PM
Hopefully it will mean I can get even more videos up and much quicker as well...an example....a 1 hour video encode on my P4 2.2 now takes just 15 minutes....

Its just a case of getting organized now...which will not be helped by me moving house later in the month.

Welcome back Jabba! Merry Christmas to you too! I hope you had a good time with your family.

That setup is awesome man, those displays are killer. One recommendation though, drill some holes in the screen supports and feed the wires through there. If it's possible to do so anyway. It'll look a lot better without the wires dangling around.

Either way, it's a great system, I hope you are happy with it!

Welcome back. I was also wonderin where you've been. Merry Belated x-mas.

You can't get better than that. Why would you need 4 monitors?

Here are some of the possibilities:

Desktop Publishing/Editing: If you're editing word processing document frequently or combining two documents into one, you can utilize the second monitor as a place to keep the original(s) in view, so you can access them quickly.

Internet/Email: user can keep his/her e-mail program open on your second monitor so that his/her can see it at all times.

Research: If you're researching from the web or any other resource, move the research items or the launch pages to the second monitor for continuous reference.

Data Analysis: If the user performing a "what-if" analysis with a spreadsheet, place a copy of the original on the second monitor so that you can see the changes easily.

System monitoring: If you need to monitor your computer or network, keep the monitoring tools on the second display for easy access as you work.

Illustration/Photo Editing: In illustration or photo editing software, keep your illustration/photo on the main screen and the controls and tools on the extra screen.

CAD, CAID, CAM, CAE, 3D Modeling/Graphics: If your job requires working with graphic in fine details, expand it across the two monitors to avoid scrolling and resizing.

This is just some of the uses for multiple monitors, however the possibilities are endless.

Thanks for all your warm words everybody.

Welcome back Jabba, I understand the feeling, I too was called away on family stuff, that is why I have not been around lately either. But, the new year is almost upon us and family responsibilities are now far away once again.

XyKo
12-30-2003, 09:37 AM
For real, is it really 15000 GBP? Because that's like 25,000 usd!!! I just want to make sure. Thanks

TT
12-30-2003, 09:40 AM
It is, yes

XyKo
12-30-2003, 10:03 AM
Well, I've just check the price on their site and adding everything up, came out to be 11k GBP. Now that's more reasonable.

TT
12-30-2003, 01:23 PM
Well I didn't take the time to double check all the prices, but if Jabba said it is 15k why not to believe him? did you consider shipping costs and so on? The monitors alone costed almost 1000 USD just to be shipped...

SFDMALEX
12-30-2003, 01:32 PM
Jabba on the final note, everything is amazing, but that table wont do. I know it got to be a really good table, but it just does not fit into the picture. You need something biger. You need one of those huge semi circular ones. Anyway it's just a thought.

Jabba
12-30-2003, 05:27 PM
Well, I've just check the price on their site and adding everything up, came out to be 11k GBP. Now that's more reasonable.

The monitors eventualy came in at £6,883 as Amex obvisouly uses a different currency conversion than the amount quoted to me.

In addition to the £6,883 there was also britsh import duty to pay @ 17.5 % (£1204) which brings the total for the monitors to

£ 8087

You will also notice from my pictures that the PC was also upgraded from the original spec and many extras added inc

All drives upgraded from 160 GB to 250 GB each, Extra Cooling, Upgraded sound card and speakers, A matrox quad output video card inc TV tuner, DV cables X 4, CD Writer, a 1000 Mbps switch and 5 network cards and cabling, wireless keyboard, high gloss black paint finish (PC, Keyboard and Mouse), various software and other bits and pieces.

So we have the basic 4 GHZ PC at

£5000
£2300 upgrades and extras
£8087 for the monitors

Total

£15,387

And I am not finished yet....

Obviously a nice computer, but for video compiling wouldn't say a dual xenon be faster. Or even better yet why not have that 4ghz beast for doing all the cool website and email stuff and then put a dual xenon next to it with a kvm.
or if you don't like kvm go with synergy. While you are on the computer kick, might I suggest putting a small computer in your cars to do GPS and mp3's. If you want to be really ambitious set up the voice recognition that windows has for people who are paralyzed so you can control it hands free. :)
The system does take some time to learn your voice but you need only do it once and then just transfer the files to each of your computers.
GL
Hook it up to one of those pop up lcd's that they make for the center console

voice system is also nice for remembering stuff such as using it to write stuff in word

I have seen one but with 5.4GHZ liquad Nitrogin cooled, also I seen in a forum topic some with 2 P4's both over clocked to 5GHZ to give total 10GHZ. But is Liquad Nitrogin cooled as well.

TT
05-31-2004, 10:49 AM
Is Liquad Nitrogin actually liquid Nitrogen?

T-Bird
05-31-2004, 11:30 AM
liquid cooling doesn't use liquid nitrogen that's too stupid to use the other parts in the computer could get affected and if you broke it open... and having dual processors doesn't actually give you that much total processing because you can't break the processes up between the two. the idea is to be able to run two processes on seperate proceessors so as to create less strain and have more power for each process it's mainly for video and audio editing so as to use those heavy processes on one processor while all the other operations are on the other processor. you can't actually join the two together giving twice the speed for a single app.

No.1
05-31-2004, 11:37 AM
^^^ True... also, you must delegate processes to each processor so it knows which programs it has to work .. i think

hey jabba, i see you've got a savrow PC.

As i'm thinking of getting a katana or razor do you reckon you could give me a few details on what they're customer service is like, their whole general setup (packaging, support, build quality and delivery of your PC) etc etc. It's just usually with smaller companies you don't get the same sort of service as larger coporate companies, although savrow do seem to be very customer aware.

If you read my posts on their forums (I am swordfish on there) you will see the owner of Savrow (Ali) mentions that he was inspired by the JW forums..no worries about doing business with them...they are excellent in every respect....I was a little worried about spending like £6,000 with a company that I had never even heard of....but it all turned out great in the end.....Ask to speak to Ali and dont forget to mention Jabbasworld if you do end up buying something from him

Good luck with finding the box, It would be neat if it came with space to already hold your 2 vapor coolers that you will be using but that would mean having a box custom made. Does anyone do that?

BTW what GPU are you going to use? Are you going to go all out and get an SLI setup?

Well you would start out with a Lian-Li case and just cut a few holes in it, and end up with something like this :

Yep very nice indeed, but from personal experience running monitors at 1600x1200 (native resolution) and then having to be that far away from them (in the case of 4 +) either you have to have very good eye sight or get used to having some serious neck ache.

If its about ego then sadly he should have a look through these setups and he will see many people using more screens then him :

dutchmasterflex
03-07-2007, 01:46 PM
Now that I think of it, trying to look at 4 monitors must be a pain in the neck, literally.

Were you rolling up and down the length of your desk just to see what was on the 2 monitors at the end of the setup?

With my dual setup I find myself focused more towards one monitor than the other. Using the 3 monitor setup must solve the problem as you can just sit in the middle.

FYI, my new computer made it to the #3 spot on the SuperPI benchmark thread.. An accomplishment that took a whole night of failed overclocks and thinking I just burnt up my new setup.

Jabba
03-09-2007, 06:19 PM
