View Full Version : Help a Brother get an Audi S4! Need Suggestions.
All right, I went to a dealer today, not an Audi Dealer, but they have a silver/black 2000 S4, with 43k miles. The price tag on it was $19,900. I talk the guy into lowering it to $19,400, but I want it to be lower.
Any suggestions in getting it around $17,500? Oh yeah and this car have been on the lot for almost 1.5 months.

Unless you find something not so good with the car or pay cash...it can be hard...try find some dent's that you can barely notice but in america it's expensive to fix, how much tread is on the tires, service history, any small detail can help you bring the price down
Yeah I'm paying cash or certified bank check.

If it's been sitting on the lot for a while, things are already on your side. Paying cash (as opposed to a trade-in) helps you as well.
Pointing out flaws in the car may help a little, but ultimately, it's down to how badly that particular salesperson (or the dealership) wants to unload this car.
1st Tip - Be patient. Let them know you are sincere and are willing to make the purchase, but don't expect to get a great deal on just the first visit. They won't give in without a fight.
You can go in a second time (make an appointment with the salesguy first) and inspect the car a bit more and drive it (if you haven't done so already) or drive it again (if you already drove it once). This will show that you're close to being ready for a sale and the salesman will take the hint. Tell him you have a figure in mind (obviously 17,500) and you are ready to buy the car TODAY (stress the TODAY part, he will be much more flexible if he sees a potential sale RIGHT NOW). Tell him there is no way you will pay 19,400 but ask him to return with a reasonable figure. If it is close to the figure you have in mind he's got a sale. That should drop the price a grand or so (hopefully).
Anyway, the trick is in the negotiation. Be patient (they'll probably go back and forth with the manager, leaving you waiting for long periods to wear you down) and don't be afraid to walk out. You can always leave your phone number, right?
Let us know how it goes. Good luck.

sometimes being honest with the salesperson helps...like saying..look this what u get the car for XXX this is what the sticker says XXX so meet me somewhere
i know that works for me as a salesperson =) sometimes when people TRY to get the price down they end up just insulting my intelligence so theres no way ill budge for them

i say before you buy the car check around other places if the price is too low there might be a problem with the car. if you find it a good buy go for it and tell the salesperson that you only have 17,500 cash and willing to take home today. have in mind that you have to pay taxes doh!!!!

i found the car on www.luxurycars.com and cars.com, before you buy the car check the vin number neither site shows the vin number anywhere. it might be a salvage car. 43k S4 for 19k mmm kind of weir most 2000 goes for 29k

I'm suprised it's been sitting for 1.5 months at that price. I agree w/ oldsnail about doing a carfax.
I want a WRX. If I can find a S4 for that price around my way, I'm going to seriously consider it.

i dont think you can get him to 17k or so, 19k is a goo price with that low of miles and the options it has, i have alot fo experience modifying an S4, and that price is good, but anyhows, good luck wiyth it, and i hope you get it, because with a lil more money invested they can seriously be fast
Well, we can't get it to go any lower. I might goign to try and have them add in some other stuff. A friend of mine told me that the 2000 model have alot of problems and I'm trying to search the internet to find out. And my freaking family told me to save money and get a luxury car, something like benz or bmw. I'm still thinking.
If they're willing to add in more things, I'll take the S4. Now if I take it, I need to get warranty, any places to get factory extended warranty as this place is not the official reseller.
Forget the car at the first post. I found a new car and my brother and sister will get it for me for my Bday, Jan 24! It's a 2001 Silver/black S4 with 33,600. They buying it for me because it comes with a manufacture warranty and a woman was driving it all the time. Also comes with 8 tires and rims, 4 summer and 4 winter. Have tinted window also. She's selling it around $23k right now, but I can try to get it for $20-21k by giving her cash or certified bank check.
Also, a friend of mine who owns an s4 knows alot about them and told me that I should take him along with me when I go see the car. He said he'll bring his laptop which have a software from Audi. It tells you all the engine problems and stuff. Don't know much about this software but heck yea, I'm taking him along.
Here's pics of my new ride!

What Sam said about buying tactics is totally true. The most important thing to say is that you want it today.
In Finland u get Audi A4 1.8 with $20 000. So its a real bargain to buy s4 ~$20 000.
Is that his first car?

Nice! I take it, that those are the winter alloys?? As they are not standard S4 wheels.
