View Full Version : Exotics in the Outback 2006 is on!

Well no need to repeat the story behind this trip I think, but for the newbies basically we are trucking out exotics to the middle of Australia (read: nowhere) where speed limits are non-existant.

Last year was an absolute ball with most cars topping 300kmh on public roads (with a max of 332kmh), and when not driving we sit around talking about cars. :P

My flights and accommodation are already booked, the trip will happen in August (won't announce exact dates).

The entry list at this stage looks like this (likely more to come):

3 x BMW E60 M5 (with speed limiters removed! )
1 x Ferrari F430
1 x Ferrari 348
2 x Lamborghini Gallardo (04 and 06)
1 x Lamborghini Gallardo SE
1 x Porsche 997 Turbo (!!!)
1 x Porsche 996 Turbo
1 x Lotus Esprit S4s
1 x Merc AMG E55 (modified)
1 x Yamaha R1 (should be interesting)

Yeah I'm interested to see what an M5's real top speed is, definately above 300kmh I'd say.

The F430 is actually owned by the owner of last years CS, so a direct replacement.

997Turbo
too bad there are no murcielago's :?
M5's would be interesting... lets see if they really can hit 205 MPH

Do try to get a ride in the SE :P

The owner of the Murcie from last year is getting an LP640 but it won't be here in time unfortunately, always next year I suppose.

I will get rides in all the cars I assume, just like last year. There is plenty of time to try them all out. ;)

Interesting!

I kinda don't understand the 996 GT2 owner switching for the 997TT which is much more of a GT these days and nowhere near the hardcore GT2 :bah: but if he is happy, so we are and can't wait to be flooded with pics!

Could you guys get a hold of a GPS system to monitor speed with the same system on every car? Laser gun? Would be nice to really be able to compare with some better data than speedos ;)

Sorry for the confusion, but the 997TT isn't owned by the guy who had the GT2 last year. He has a 997 GT3 on order. ;)

Good idea, I'll email some of the guys and see what we can come up with.

Yeah, that GPS-speedo would be awesome!
Really get the 'real' results instead of the speedo ones, good idea TT!

I envy you dingo, make the best out of it!
Looking forward seeing your pictures.... :)

Soooooo how do you get an invite to this? I'm hoping to have something completed very shortly that may or may not be able to keep up...
It's a AWD VT Clubsport, with a 0-100 of 3.2...and a calculated top speed of 335....(yeah I know...calculated isn't proved! :) anyway, I'd love to be part of next years if thats possible??

dingo
07-24-2006, 06:30 AM
AWD Clubsport R8??? :?

Commodores aren't usually what we "invite" but something like this may be a different story. Next year is a long way away and the event isn't certain to happen again but get in touch with around March next year if you like to see whats happening. ;)

Wow - that's a pretty elitist stand to take. :)

"not usually something we invite"... imagine if when Z wanted to join us in the JW Fun Run with his Toyota we would have said "toss off you silly little peon.. we don't normally invite you rtype".. :P

how elite was the Monaro last year? oh, was he an exotic owner?

I can understand wanting to limit slots for liability reasons... but why cant a group of enthusiasts run together?

i think the real question is what group are you in, and lets get together and have some fun.

but hey, its not my event, nor my place...

The magazine came with the Monaro, but we weren't told about it until too late.

OK - so exactly what are the criteria to attend the little swaree in the desert?

People we know (keep out the dickheads) who have cars that can keep up (i.e. close to or above 300).

Yep - last I heard all people with slow cars are dickheads ;)

But you have a fast car..... ;)

I feel like I'm talking to a 10yo not someone more than 3 times that age.

"Requirements":

1. People we know, so we know who is coming (and therefore eliminate dickheads as what we are doing is dangerous in a way).

AND

2. People who own cars that can keep up with the pack.

I never said being a dickhead was related to owning a slow car.

answered the questions, and as i said, its not my event ;)

granted... i'll eventually be setting up some high speed event where 200 mph (is that about 330?) is the magic mark... but that wont be on public roads... and will need to be kept down to just a few cars for liablity reasons.

I know RC is only stirring for the sake of it (spurred on by what happened in the WYST) section, but in the end this is an event for a group of friends and we decide who comes along - tough luck if some people disagree.

Just enjoy the pics and videos that will come from this event...... :D

200mph = 322kmh.

The max last year was 332kmh (205mph), and as you say safety is also a concern (even more so since we are doing it on public roads). We don't want 25 cars coming along, too much organisation involved in trying to keep everyone alive.

Well - you have a slow car.

hence why I never claimed that I wasn't a dickhead.

stirring things up is what RC does best ;) and of course we're looking forward to pictures, and videos... what kind of video camera will you be using?

322 kph... yah.... i just got to find the runway that will let me do it for super-cheap, and is long enough. I don't see this happening until next spring/early summer.

dingo
07-27-2006, 10:14 AM
I'll just be using my Panasonic Mini DV, nothing spectacular - others will have them too. With the camera mounts we should be able to get better footage than last year.

You're gonna need a long runway to reach 320+, can't you just go out to some deserted roads (Nevada??) and do it? Just make sure the cops are asleep.... :P

RC45
07-27-2006, 10:15 AM
Actually, 200mph in a standing mile (half a runway) is the norm for the cars we would take out to sessions like this.
