Woke up this morning (26, Dec.) ; grabbed a cup of coffee and turned on the tele. Saw on my local news channel a live feed telling everyone about a missing 2 year old that managed to wander away from his father while in the woods, Christmas day around 4 in the afternoon. It got down to 30 degrees F that night and the newslady was saying that the emergency crews needed volunteers to help in the search. This incident was ocurring about a mile from where I lived, so I grabbed some clothes and headed out to assist.
Got to the command post and there must have been at least 300 people that volunteered, it was really a nice thing to see. People taking time to help others in need the day after Christmas, they could have just as easily stayed home and recuperated from the night before. Anyways, got there at 8:30 and then our search party found out that they found him, alive and well with just a little scrapes here and there. There are quite a bit of marsh and rivers, and then when we heard the news we were of course elated. Here is the link to the article:

this is the kind of good news people wait for man. there's been some really weird/tragic shit happening this past week and it makes it a hundred times suckier since it's the holidays. then hundreds of people turn up to search for a lost kid and you smile and think yeah, still some good people out there

It was just a nice thing to see, hundreds of people coming in to volunteer to search. I shouldn't have been surprised really; saw this type of comraderie when Hurricane Hugo hit Charleston in 1989. Just something you don't see everyday on a massive scale. I think when people hear that a young child is in need of help, it touches us in some way.
God forbid, if someone is missing; regardless of age mind you; and I can do it again, helping out, I will. Felt like I was really doing something worthwhile.

Happy to hear the child was alright and moreover glad that there are still good people in the world.
