I need a new Video card just because my old one is really starting to crap out on me and the movements of online games are choppy and slow. The cards I am looking at are:
-GeForce 6800 Xtreme
-ATI Radeon X700 Pro
-ATI X1300 Pro
They are all AGP and 256 but which do you guys think would be the best for gaming and just overall a better buy?

I have alot of good things about the GeForce with some people saying the Fan is noisy. I have read very little about the ATI because of the lack of reviews available. I have heard decent, not great, reviews of them however. My top choice as of now is the GeForce but I am always open for more opinions.

I like Nvidia. Dont know bout rest of the people but I'd choose it. Specially if you have an nForce board.

I'd take the GF anyday. I've witness extreme graphic tests where GF had the lesser faults. GF is better than ATI in my book!

ATI is ok, but it can't mach Nvidia's experience when it comes to graphic performance!

I think so too. Tomshardware.com might be a good place for you to look. THey benchmark all cards.

The GeForce would be the one to go with out of that batch, it's quite a deal more powerful than the others.

Well that depends on what card you have right now. None of those cards are exactly great at gaming, but I think the x1300p can do AA and HDR. That's pretty much the only advantage it has, and its not much of one considering it runs like crap with HDR.

From what I've read, the 6800 series from Nvidia can do true HDR as well.

One version of HDR w/ AA and I'm pretty sure ATi can do both. Neither can do AA with deferred lighting at the moment and the 6800 will pretty much trump the ATi in most things you use.

My card now is a Radeon 9200 :P I would use it for CS 1.6 and CS:Source. The 9200 is pretty bad at even the 1.6 but I lived with it but my birthday passed annd I have the money to upgrade!

out of that batch the 6800.

but that's not to say the other two are crap.

i have a x700 right now and it plays all current games at medium settings.

mind you, its overclocked to the tits and tweaked beyond reason, but still...

6800GT would be the one to go with imho.. or maybe some 7's GS..

6800GT doesn't exist anymore. It was replaced with the GS or something I think.

I don't remeber, but isn't there a 7800 part that's for agp? That should be a fair bit better than what you've listed. Or alternatively, I think the x800xt's are relatively cheap. I remember seeing them on sale, but that was a while back. There's always the option of x800gto's or gt's. I think there was a model for agp and those are pretty good performers.

Not too sure why every keeps saying nvidia, brand doesn't really matter, since the cards in the same price range perform about the same. You just go for what ever is cheaper, fits in your case better, quieter, better warranty or features it supports.

But as for the x1300, that's a budget card. It's not really meant for gaming at all. And what exactly is a 6800 xtreme? Is the xt? If it is the xt, that card is slower than the 6600gt.

lol well the 6800GT was a highend part during the life cycle of the x700, so it obviously is vastly superior to the x700, and 1300 which is a budget card. But what I meant was that its pretty damn hard to find one now. I mean its like over a year old, that's like an eternity for computer parts.

my ATI is awesome. but i am on a mac so, i have no real game testing with it. but video and image processing and some 3d ATI videos works flawlessly. :good: but it really comes done to money IMO get the best you can afford.
