This is a historical thread. Not an advocacy to bomb or wage war on any country in the present. The n. korean thread was going way way out of topic.

dutch & matt check out the following links

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spanish-American_War

Reading some paragraphs gives extra details not found in secondary school philippine history texts so i'm unsure on the historical accuracy. But according to local textbooks the Americans wanted to become a colonial power with little effort so what better way than to takeover Spain's role in key strategic areas.

PI is still being used by Fil-foreigners particularly Filipino-Americans when they are refering to the old country.

For those who think the Philippines is just America's bitch, read up and find out why ;)

Our own history books tell us of some strange desicions made in the US/Philipine war...

first, they loved us; and wanted to become independant; and even drafted a bill of rights, and preamble similar to our own.

if memory serves, we didn't want to let them become independant because of the ensuing spanish american war.

anyway, it's time to read up... but i have a feeling wiki just can't be accurate enough on such history

Indeed wiki's a revisionist's dream platform but the "old" info I knew already's there. I just unsre about the added info & details.

I wonder if this fits in General Chat, but alas.
