Hi,

Last saterday, I got up at 4 o'clock in the morning and hitted the road to the Nurburgring at 5. Picked up a friend of mine some time later, and blasted to the ring. The German police stopped us at the border for a routine controle, they probably thought we were Belgian hools who were into kicking some German ass at the World Cup Soccer. Sorry guys we are not into soccer, we are here for the 24-hours race @ the Nurburgring :P 8) After our ID's and registration of the car being checked we were allowed to continue our way.
I think we arrived around 7:45 at the petrol station near dottinger hohe :) That feels like home.

We decided to park our car near Flugplatz, we walked up to Aremberg and Adenauer Forst. This is were I made most of the pictures. The weather was superb, the crowd was crazy & nice and the cars were mindblowing :!: I wanted to go shooting pictures at the Karrousel and Steilstreckenkurve as well but 'cause of half Germany was there too I couldn't reach these spots ... Next time I will bring a bike with me !

One of my favourite teams won this years' edition, it's the team of Olaf Manthey 8) Alzen Motorsport, my all time favourite, took the second place. It seems to me that this atmospheric powerplant is much more reliable.
But this years' surprise, for me, is the fifth place overall of the BMW 120D by Schubert Motorsport. One of the drivers was Hans-Joachim's son; Johannes Stuck.

EnjoY the pictures guys, already looking forward to the 2007 edition :P

The Biggest, the best ... better than the rest.

Thanks for the pics! Awesome shots. Interesting note the Subaru had Chris Atkinson piloting it, who is WRC Subaru team driver.

And the team that won overall. Manthey Motors Racing drivers were all the Porsche Penske RS Spyder drivers on loan for the race.

I wouldn't mind if you could tell me which one is your fav pic, possible not the Gallardo since we already used one of your pics of that car in a past contest, and if possible, provide it in 1024 or wider size :)

Brllant panning shots of course!

Hard to say TT, I like the RED BULL M3 and the Wiesmann GT a lot. When it comes to colours I prefer the M3 but when it comes to orginality it's the Wiesmann.

btw: one of the wiesmann-drivers is T. Schrick, it is the host of Motorvision TV. It is he who tested the BMW H1 (the 1 series with the M5 V8 powerplant)

Completely agree. If I should pick one, it would be the M3

@ Martijn,

No, I don't have any night pics. I left around 8 o'clock in the evening because I had to work on Sunday.
Hopefully next year.

@ TT,

Here is a high(er) resolution version of the Red Bull M3. I consider this as one of my favourite pictures taken thus far.
Linky link  http://users.pandora.be/jokke1/Photography/B.Cars/24-Hours%20Nurburgring_2006/DSC_8757%20Nr%2060%20BMW%20M3%20share.jpg

These pictures are far more better at high resolution, especially when it comes to details, sharpness and colour.

Do you have any plans with this one ?

@ Davide,

I know mate, it's a pitty indeed. But as I have said before, next time I will take a bike with me so that I'm more moveable and able to visit more places. But I didn't expect soooo maaanny spectators, it was incredible.

Cheers

Jokke, what do you want me to say.... Sweeeet pics, man. :D

I must say, I was kinda surprised to see this topic pop up. I wasn't even aware that it was the 24 hours. :( Seems the weather was excelent this year. And you've been really spoiled with a Gallardo, a Wiessman and the baby Aston.

I've read that a Belgian team finished fourth. Not bad, although Schoysman has done better in the past.

Taking your bike is a good idea. I did that some time ago. And then you reach the outside of the Karussel and you take your coolest shots ever and you loose track of time and then it gets dark.

I'll be on hollidays closeby at the end of july. So I'll go and do a couple of laps then. Let me know if you plan to go too.

Hi Svenne, :D

Thanks for the nice words!

I went to the 24-hours with Mr. Elise :D .
We will go to the ring again in the near future. It's going to be during the weekend for some Touries' action :) He will pick me up in is Lotus ... 600 km with an Elise 8)

Besides the TourstenFahrten, we are going to try and arrange to visit another VLN-race as well. We don't have made any definite arrangements yet. But you have mine and Bart's e-mail address so if you want to join us no problemo mate. I use to drive to the VLN-races myself so there are definitely some seats free in my limo

I have been at the outside of the karoussel many times before, but it's not easy during the 24-hours race due to ticket control and without a press card it's a no-no :x Same old song when it comes to Flanzgarten 1 & 2.

I will contact Bart soon, the next vln-race is on the 8 July.

Speak soon mate

Cheers

Superb panning shots again! Too bad you couldn't reach the Karussel. I also find it frustrating you're often not allowed on the good spots during a main event on a track.
