Nikon D50 (house)
Nikon AF-S 18-70
Nikon AF 50/1,8D
Sigma AF 70-300/4-5,6 (APO)
SanDisk Ultra II Plus SD 2GB
Hoya Pol cirk 67mm HMC Super
Hama Stepring 58-67mm
Hoya UV 67mm HMC Super

What should i replace/take away/add?

This is suppose to be my first DSLR, is it a good choise with these lenses?

Best regards,

Is the Sigma lense stabilized? I won't repeat as always that Sigma quality isn't up to Nikon or Canon standards, but at least when you buy a 300 mm, you need it to be stabilized.

Apart from that, we know the D50 is a good entry level SLR, so nothing against it ;)

D50 is the best entry-level dSLR IMHO, Sigma 70-300 APO is the best entry-level telelens.

Don't listen to TT, I can handle 400mm handhold just fine. ;) You'll just need some more light and/or higher ISO. Sure, an IS-lens will help a lot, but you can't beat the price of the Sigma.

Thanks for your great answers, but i now i`ll only use 200mm, not up to 300mm..

I have looked at the 350D + Canon EF 70-300 IS USM also...doesn`t know wich is the best buy...

The Canon for sure is a better buy (as soon as they come out with a fix for the portait-orientation-problem), but it'll cost you a lot more.

If you are new to photography then this is a good starter set. You can always upgrade the lenses later once you get the hang of it.

IMO, the Nikkor AF 50 - 1.8D would be good for portaits and low light stuff - indoor shooting, car pictures, etc. It is also very light and will be a decent lens to travel with. The only de-merit is that it has a slow autofocus.

The Nikkor AF-S 18-70 is a great lens with decent wide angle and reasonable zoom. Compared to the AF50, this has a fast autofocus and would be an excellent lens when shooting outdoors in bright light.

The Sigma 70-300 has decent range but is relatively slow lens. I think it will do pretty well unless you are trying to take it to a racetrack. This is possibly the "weakest link" in the package and there are better lenses depending on what you would use the zoom for...

Agree. . . the 350D/XT will out perform the D50, but value for the money, the D50 is hard to beat.

You might also want to look into the D50 two lenses package that has the 18-55 and 70-300 for around $800.
