Short video of the hydrogen vehicle passing by on the banked curves of the test track.

The sound coming from it is pretty interesting.. pretty quiet, but still sounds good.

Just 230 hp from a 6.0 Liter V12?? I thought Hydrogen fuel is suppose to have a more powerful combustion than gas

(BTW i dont know jack about fuel)

^^ Noooo...far fewer BTU's per volume, so despite more efficient combustion, it produces less power.

a high rpm 6l V12 would also burn though fuel (even cheap fuel) at a rate of knots... so you'd probably need a 1,000 gallon tank to make the vehicle usable ;)

ha I like how they put the stock wheel there.

Anyway BMW is making an effort and a big one too!!! I hope we see nice results in the future!

You know the engine sound was my biggest concern, honestly it sounds amazing, king of low and futuristic.

i believe it is a lower compression engine because of the hydrogen. Hydrogen is less powerful than gas, but gas is less powerful than diesel. why? because of the heat generated in the combustion process. Diesel, gets compressed to the point that the heat ignites it. Gas, using much lower compression than diesel, requires a spark to get it going at normal conditions. The hydrogen is easier to detonate, and therefore will require less compression.

I don't know what pressures are needed for the violent combustion of they hydrogen, but i have a feeling that if you were to compress hydrogen the same amount as petrol, you would get the same results as a regular spark knock.

With that said, i am going to miss the loud throaty obnoxiousness of an open headered V8 at 5600 RPM  :(
