Hi,

Just wondering if anyone has a complete list of the lap times that they have on TG?

I actually wrote into TG and asked them if they could display a list on their website or something, but until now there has been no reply. I'm wondering if any has ever found, or maybe created by themselves a list of TG lap times?

It would be cool, cos then you could use it to compare cars with other cars and stuff like that.

Ideas guys?

I thought I had watched the clip where Richard took Jeremy's SL55 and passed it to the Stig for a drive, but I can't seem to find the clip anymore. Does anybody know which episode it was in, or perhaps it was with another car?

I didn't think the Murcielago ran that fast of a time, but i could be wrong. I'll look to see if I can find the SL55 video in the morning,,,,,I think its definitely with another car.

Yep the Murcielago ran faster then the Zonda! It woz done in the sort of Lambo special episode. If you want it pm me! we'll work some thing out! :D Richard never drives Jerermy's SL55! He just steals the keys and give them to the STIG, he does the driving! hehehehe! :D :D :D

The Murcielago posted 2 times, the first was 1:29 and it was the first Stig, the same that posted the Zonda time. It seems the new Stig is "a bit" faster than the old one so I would be curious to see what time he coud set with the Zonda, the Koeniggsegg and so ... ????

kramerman
12-28-2003, 04:36 AM
Heh.. I forgot to say that I took the times willy nilly from whatever episodes I could find.. so that might mean that some are from the older season etc...

And I realised that in the older season they didn't give the decimal points for the times.. but when they changed to the larger board, they magically appeared so I put in whatever I could see from the quick shots they gave at the board :)

Zonda11
12-28-2003, 03:33 PM
The video where the stig drives Jerermy's Merc is "The best of top gear 2002" if that helps any. The video is rather long and the stigs drive is right at the end of the video.

The TG lap time of Jeremy’s SL55 (license plate KV02 EUC) is 1.33, it was raining and the track was very wet.
Yes they drove the Lamborghini twice, once the old and once the new Stig, the difference in time is caused by the wet track (wet; old stig).
In the old TG (of years ago) they would test a lot of cars head to head (on the same day, same weather), this imo is much more realistic then is new setup:
The British weather ruins everything :(

The problem (as I see it) is that both 911's were tested in the wet
- the 911 GT3 would do app. 1.21 in the dry......

Thanks to another post I managed to get the best of 2002 clip and it's pretty funny how the SLR was stolen for the stig to drive.. heh..

Anyways, just continue adding on the times whenever anyone gets anything new eh? :) Thanks to all that are here.

lol @ some of you guys speculating right lemme set the record straight here,
the stig is none other than Perry Mcarthy its even been stated elsewhere on jabbas world (get his autobiography its an awesome read trust me) , if u dont know who Perry Mcarthy is then please go for a google....

Secondly there is no old and new stig that whole killing off the stig routine was done by the programmes producers to wring out as much "tv drama" as possible there has only ever been one stig, wether or not Perry returns for the upcoming series remains to be seen.

Thirdly the Lambo Murcielago tested that posted a quicker time was different to the one they tested first time round. The one that got the better time had an E-gear which Lamborghini Uk (who suppled the car) specifically requested a second test be done as they feel that it had underperformed the first time and suggested they use the f1 style transmission as it was quicker .

Fourthly im not surprised the Zonda got beaten as the track that they use on Top Gear is specially designed by Lotus to test their cars and if any of you know anything about Lotus you'll know that their cars are known for their pin point precision handling and kart like manoeuvrability , hence why there are lots of tight turns and very few straights or long sweeping corners that would favour the Zonda. Jeremy himself stated that the Murcielago was quicker during the corners (prob due to the awd id think) and that the Zonda made up the difference on the straights .

just some lil facts to digest on

Hi all who are following this post,

sorry for the lack of updates. A lot of things happened in the past month and i haven't been able to keep up with the internet. Anyways, perhaps this topic can be closed down because i'm sure there have been more lap times but no one wants to add them on anyways. I will continue to try my best if there is anyone interested but now it's just harder and harder to continue downloading the vids.

Peace all.

Hey TT and other Fellow members, "sorry" I posted a new topic without checking topics in other threads just like the statistics say - " Our users have posted a total of 158055 articles within 10600 topics "
It wasnt easy to go through all and decide, but I assure it wont happen again.

Anyway this I feel is a very interesting topic and to keep it interesting enough, I feel we should have the best times only, as in Under 1 min 26 for Dry and Under 1 min 30 for Wet. As I could only recall -

Dry Best Laptime :
Radical SR3 - 1:19.?
Porsche Carrera GT - 1:19.8
Mercedes McLaren SLR - 1:20.9
Westfield XTR - 1:22.6
Lamborghini Murcielago - 1:23.7
Pagani Zonda - 1:23.8

Lamborghini Gallardo - 1:25.8

Wet Best Laptime :

well for me this lap times thing doesn't mean a lot...i have said it and before but i think in top gear are "pushing"some cars...there are a lot examples for that..i don't know if there is a new stig but also for me it seems that the new goes a little bit faster...also i am curious about this track....i mean what kind of track is it and if it can really shows what a car can do or if it helps some type of cars(RWD,AWD,FWD)..

another significant thing that helped the murc in the second test is the fact that the stig dropped the clutch, which neither clarkson nor the stig did the first test. it got a much faster start that time. my thought is that the first car might have been privately owned, and they didn't want to submit the clutch to excess wear.

It was similar to Murcielago's first run with Zonda, though when I saw the video myself It wasnt raining but the track was a completely damp. Specially on the corners (so benefit of the doubt goes to McP :P )

u cant use these to compare exactly how 2 close cars are like for example CS and RS the only way to compare is
1) if the same driver does at least 20 or 30 laps back to back in each car
2) not a standing start because certain cars perform very differently on starts and this isnt drag racing and u do one start a race we want lap times, and when u do lap times the start has nothing to do with it cause u should be rolling by the line from ur previous lap, or at least have all cars cross the line at the same speed
3) the cars bein compared have to be driven on the same day as little time between the two tests as possible becuase we want as little change as possible to weather and track conditions
4) change the whole track all together, we need to try to find something with the perfect mix of direction changes, braking, straights, long corners, short corners everything
5) test cars like 959,F40.F50,Enzo.Maserati, they choose so many stupid cars that ppl dont even care about like a stupid Volvo, test old cars to compare to new oneslike 355 compared to 360, Diablo to Murcie, Clk-GTR to SLR etc
6) make sure its always the same driver, theres no way of knowing but hopefully there honest when they same its always the same guy
7)always push everycar as hard as possible

Great Idea (s) but it's kind of hard to do that in an hour long TV show. You're obviously not familiar with Top Gear.

At least Top Gear does fulfill some of those demands

1) all cars were driven by two people, total, who are professional racing drivers.

2) the Top Gear track is designed by Lotus, the same company who brought the Seven and Elise, which is being continuously hailed as the world's best handling road car.

and by the way, I do care about all the stupid cars on the show. One thing about being a car enthusiast is to be open minded and

Clk-GTR to SLR is more of contrasting than comparing.

besides, the Top Gear test new cars when they come out. It's been on the air for over a decade. It won't go back to 959 or CLK-GTR or F40. Not only are they dated, they would cost Top Gear a fortune.
