nice MR2,they look sweet in yellow

the RSX i personally think is a nice car.we dont get them here in the UK.but they look VERY similar to the new integra type R which we do get,is there any difference in engine size and power?

the integra type-r is built on the RSX

no diff in engine size except the power in the ITR is about 200hp

yes ,they are also known as integra's around the world.
i dont know why we scrapped the name integra, for it exisited since 1988-2002.

the RSX(DC5) comes in 3 engines:
base: 2.0L ivtec 160hp
type -s: 2.0L ivtec 200hp
type- r: 2.0L ivtec 220hp ,(we dont have the type R in n.america yet, but alot of car freaks import the engine and swap it in)

the MR2 i have is the sluggish non aspirated model.

little background on the MR2, 3 engines were released for the MR2 worldwide:

for n/a, the world got this engine- 2.0L doch, newer ones had vvti with BEAMS technolgy. also found in the RS200 .
3sge: 160-215hp

turbo models got this - 2.0L doch single entry turbo, similar engine in the celica GT4
3sgte: 200hp-265hp

n. america got this for a non aspirated- 2.2L doch, also found in the camry
5sfe: 135hp-140hp

Back in the mid-90s Acura had an identity crisis (literally). People were far more familiar with the "names" (i.e. Legend, Integra, etc.) than they were with the Acura brand. So the marketeers decided that the Acura cars should have letter/number nomenclature, but allowed Integra to hang on for a bit longer because of its incredibly strong name recognition.

Now we get letters and numbers!

well actually, the jspec mr2's didnt get better power till the second generation of motors for the mkII, and the real big hp difference didnt occur till 1996 with the 3rd generation of motors. i am not aware of the european countries recieving those motors either however. last i remember they still recieved the same turbo motor we here in the us did. the only other one they recieved was the 3sge BEAMS motor i believe.
it should also be noted there is a big difference in the octane rating for japan, and the power difference of the usdm motor and the jspec 3rd gen motor is mostly due to very agressive timing and more boost pressure, thus taking advantage of the higher octane.

same somewhat goes for the m3. i cant say exactly what the difference is but im sure someone can give a better accounting.

BEAMS engine was rare..
they had the red tops for the MR2's and black tops for the RS200's.
200bhp with vvti for the mr2 and 215bhp in the RS200 Altezza.

some american cars have more bhp than the japanese twins. mainly becoz of the japanese limit for pwer is 280bhp .
ie.
nissan 300zx(fairlady) -japan has 280bhp , america has 300bhp
toyota supra tt- japan has 280bhp, america has 320bhp
honda nsx - japan has 280, america has 290.
and the list goes on..
but alot of small cars like the integra, prelude, celica, miata (eunos roadster), and many others have more power in japan than america. i think mainly this is due to stricter restricions of emission control we have here. hence, less power on some cars.
