how would you say the lens is being its got such a massive amount of zoom telescoping? are there any particular mm that the image is obviously affected?

The Canon 100-400L IS lens is pretty good across the whole of the focal length. It's probably one the best and sharpest telephoto zoom lens you can buy.
Not as sharp as a Prime lens by any stretch but then they are not as convenient.
