Ferrari is preparing the launch of the super sports car F 430 Challenge Stradale at the Paris Motor Show coming fall. The car is set to rival Porsche’s upcoming GT3 RS, which is equally due for launch this year.
The Stradale is about 100 kg lighter than the standard F 430. While the latter is powered by a 4.3 litre V8 engine producing 490 HP, the light weight Stradale‘s performance is said to rate around 520 HP with the same engine.
The photos are showing a prototype during road testing in Maranello. The pictured test car still has some tape at the front end for disguise. At the rear end clearly visible, the exhaust pipes are located further up in the middle and not on the side like in the F 430

My brother - who has been testing this morning their two new Challenges at Barcelona - has told me that Ferrari tests the cars as any other road car with some km on open roads, just to check that everything works fine. So we can confirm now that the red one is just a regular Challenge... while the yellow one is definitely a F430CS mule :wink:

I agree mate, F430 to me is gorgeous.

I honestly am REALLY excited about the F430 CS or whatever it will be called, the 360CS is my favourite car of all time, very closely followed by the F430 so i sense a new fav arriving. :)

That every single Ferrari Challenge (the racer) is driven some km on open roads to check that everything works fine - same as they do with all the road models. SO - the red F430 you've posted is not a Challenge Stradale, as you've said - it's just a Challenge :wink:

where did i say it was just a challenge? I am not saying they don't drive them on the road but the info i posted was CS not just challenge. :?

you just have to look at the photos, it has sliding windows, centre lock wheels, racing fuel filler, bonnet clips etc (all things you won't find on the CS). ;)

After watching 5th Gear, I am quite affraid that the CS lacks what the Challenge lacked, sound improovement. Vicki said that the replacement of them tubes made sound change.

you have to remember the Challenge doesn't feature any engine changes, its extra performance comes from reduced weight and changed suspensions setup.

The current (360) CS has engine changes including the exhaust, so I think we can expect a different sound from the F430-based version too. ;)

Have a look on the JW homepage and you will see a link to the F430 Challenge video......so its not the 360 test.

Here are latest photos of the upcoming Ferrari F 430 Challenge Stradale. They were taken on a test drive in Germany.

The F430 Challenge is getting ready for the streets of the world. The Challenge Stradale is Ferrari’s answer to Porsche’s RS-models, and both of them use almost the same recipe. While Porsche makes the RS-models lighter but keep the same horsepower as the base GT3, Ferrari gives the CS not just a lighter body but also some more power .

The standard F430 delivers 490 bhp and the Stradale is believed to give away at least 520 bhp and about 100 kg less weight. The biggest visible change are the exhaust pipes that got moved up a bit and are producing a lot of great music to all Ferrari fans out there. Could be that Ferrari is recording the sound to sell it as a CD for all those who can’t afford to buy the car? Not really, but it’s not such a bad idea. The microphone that is visible at the exhaust pipes on the photos does help Ferrari at least to make it as loud as legal.

Due to safety regulations around the world the door windows are not made of plastic anymore like on the 360 CS and the wheels have 5 normal lug bolts instead of one center bolt like on the Challenge cars.

The inside of the doors is completely made of carbon to keep the weight down. Other light weight tricks include magnesium sport wheels and the carbon grille in the back that also helps to enhance engine cooling. It looks like the brakes are upgraded with bigger discs, the soft Pirelli P-Zero tires give the car enormous grip, and the interior is completed with deep sport seats. Expect the Challenge Stradale to hit the roads in the beginning of 2007.

100kg of weight reduction is quite a lot, and 30hp in power should take the performance one step forward. Time for Lamborghini to make the SV Gallardo I guess :twisted:

Fiat Chairman Luca Cordero di Montezemolo has told reporters at the Geneva auto show that Ferrari plans to release a new model based on the F430 at the Frankfurt show in September.

In a statement to Reuters, Montezemolo said that the new model had been developed using Formula 1 technology on which there had been some “key research.”

The timing of the announcement means it’s likely the new car will be the long awaited F430 Challenge Stradale, which has been spotted by spy photographers in recent times.

While Lamborghini prepares its second Superleggera model, Ferrari is hard at work on its own F430 Challenge Stradale. Spy shots have surfaced of a pair of test mules rallying it up on gravel backroads in preparation for the car's market debut.

The new version picks up where the previous 360 CS left off, turning an already finely-tuned instrument of speed into an even sharper one. Whereas Porsche's RS formula calls for reducing unnecessary weight while leaving the engine in tact, Ferrari's prescription is more closely mimicked by its rivals in Sant'Agata by reducing weight while adding power to further optimize the all-important power-to-weight ratio.

Sources indicate that the formula has changed a bit from the 360 to 430 CS versions: safety standards now mean no plastic windows, and the center-bolted racing wheels are reported to have given way to a more conventional five-bolt set-up. Weight is reduced through the use of carbon fiber in the doors and rear grille, lightweight magnesium rims, and what is sure to be a stripped interior with racing buckets, amounting to an estimated 220-lb weight savings. Power is expected to top 520 hp, and the brakes are tipped to get an upgrade over the "standard" F430, while soft-compound Pirelli PZero rubber should help the car stick better than the Bridgestones its conventional counterpart is saddled with.

After a season spent trimming down and toning up, the F430 Challenge Stradale looks ripe to take on its challengers with explosive speed.

Funny how Ferrari seem to test their cars more and more at the Ring lately. I guess they've learned that Fiorano is toooo smooth to develop road cars :P

:roll: Really ? Ferrari does a lot of testing around Modena, an area full of hills and winding roads with very little traffic going on, they have there their own Ring in the hills surrounding the Factory with not so smooth surface :fuck:
