The Mazda Kabura is an attractive car with an innovative seating arrangement and a performance-oriented MX-5 (Miata) drivetrain. But even with all that going for it, we still can't figure out what the point is.
What we know for certain is that it's intended to be a sports coupe somewhere between an MX-5 and an RX-8. Mazda would like it to lean toward the rotary-engine-powered RX-8, to serve as a conventional-engine stablemate. And in looks and size it does — but one could argue that what makes a car a car is the engine and transmission, and there it's all MX-5. The 170-horsepower, 2.0-liter 4-cylinder and six-speed manual are lifted directly from the MX-5.
