i can tell you working there and holidaying are two completely different things!
i worked near guangzhou and i hated it. hours were 8-6 mon-sat. they can be quite strict. working environment was so uncomfortable especially summer. it was clean and all but after working in comfy offices in sydney it just can't compre. basically for me to get through was stop comparing sydney to china
good thing is i went out everynight, everything was so cheap its ridiculous.

My father American employer packed him off to Shanghai a couple of years ago to get their office there up and running (Shanghai is the Asia-Pacific divisional headquarters now), and it kinda sucks for me cos I never see him. However, it was a promotion for him.
From my experience (when visiting him, and going with him on business dinners etc), working in China involves lots of alcohol, and Chinese blokes treating you like the second coming of Christ (although the worship of God is discouraged in China). Because he's sort of senior, he gets a car and driver as well. However, most Chinese folk have little knowledge of English, but seeing as you studied there, I assume you know Chinese.
And yes, stuff in China is pretty cheap. I've never run out of cash in China.
