XP. I figure that's the standard and that other systems may present problems while surfing.

windows xp. But until lastyear i used 2000
All the workstations at home are still Windows 2000 - the laptop is XP Pro and the servers are 2000.
Other than "gotta have it" there is not reason to upgrade to XP if you don't want to :P Hell NT4 would work fine for 99.999999999% of people. ;)
But then again one must ask why woul someone joing and on their first post ask a social engineering question? ;)
I smell a phisher *sniff...sniff*

except it really isnt. for command line to be cool... it has to be UNIX based ;)

My old DOS computer had some sort of coloured interface. Not sure what that was about, but I was only a little kid with limited knowledge of how stuff worked.

Windows 2000 is fine if you dont like support for new hardware/software and horribly slow boot up and shutdown times..

Actually, slow boots and shutdown was/is more to do with crap people have loading at startup than the OS (did a backto back on the P4 3.6ghz and the XP Pro was barely 5 seconds quicker than the 2000 SP4 ;))
As far as hardware and software support goes, no problems here, even wif me new video cards, and video capture kit an all.. ;)
Hell - the real reason I switched from NT4 to 2000 was to get support for 2gb+ capture files with Premiere - only to find out it had nerry anyfink to do wif Windows ToooKay but raver the .AVI file supprot... ;)
I have a little old NT4 SP2 pre-year-2000 hotfix server that is still sitting here serving... no need to muck wif it... it just keeps on going ;) :P
