i looked into bikes as well and buyin one in the spring, yamaha 600cc is good if a starter, anything more and u might kill yourself if u have never been on one, any 600cc bike will do, bmw and ducati i would stay away from for ur first bike,

have u ever owned a bike? di u ride them often?
thers a ducati that is 748cc, thats not much more compared to the yamaha 600cc, or is it?
and why wid u only put bmw and ducati as the ones to stay away to, what about the others??

If this is your first bike do not buy a Liter bike (R1, GSXR1K, 929, etc) as your first bike, period. Any experienced rider will tell you this. It is true that you can kill yourself on any size bike but there is more room for error on a smaller bike with a beginning rider at the controls. If you accidently lean on the throttle with an R1 it will be a lot more violent than if you did it with an R6.

It's best to start on a used bike, that way if there are any mishaps it won't be such a hit to the wallet. Take a look at the SV650, older R6s, older GSXR600s. A Kawi 250 would be a great bike to start on.

Have any specific questions, feel free to ask.

thanks 4 the info.
minacious u seem 2 know alot about bikes, i can tell by just seing ur sig.
well here r my questions:
1-how fast to 60 is an avarage in bikes?
2-r ducatis that bad? they dont seem like it...
3-is it hard to drive a bike? because i have the impression that it is.
4-why is the boxter engine bad on a bike?
5-how did u start riding? was it a good way 2 start?
6-what do u think would happen if u learned 2 ride in one of these:

1=Impossible to give an average, there are so many variables and bikes to consider. As a new rider this shouldn't really be a concern to you. Any bike you hop on will feel insanely fast compared to a car. Sitting on a bike and being open to the elements is a whole other world than sitting in a car (cage).

2= Ducatis are not bad bikes at all. They are expensive bikes though and your maintenance intervals with be more frequent than they would with a Japanese bike.
In case you didn't know, Ducatis are Twins and not Inlines like say a GSXR or R6, which is an entirely different matter when it comes to power delivery and what not.

3= Anyone can learn to ride a bike to some extent, but there are many who just can't get it down to a science. Riding a bike takes much concentration. You must always be on guard and aware of your surroundings, more so than you would in a car. Then the factor of being on two wheels comes into play. Like for instance, stalling a car will simply leave you dead in the water, stalling a bike could have you dropping the bike. Then there is gaining the courage to lean the bike into a turn. Trusting your tires. Knowing the proper points to shift (this also applies to a car). There is so much more.

4= Who said the boxer engine was bad? It may not be the most visually pleasing with how far it sticks out on the sides, but it's not bad.

5= I started riding 6-7 years ago as another means of commuting. As the years passed I got more into the whole riding community (riding canyons, soon the track, etc) and now it is a huge part of my life. Still learning to this day. You can never know too much.

6= Me personaly, I would not want to learn on a brand new expensive Italian bike.
There is nothing I can do to stop you from starting on what you want to start on, all I can say is it would behoove you to start on something smaller in displacement and older. I'm telling you man, you will enjoy it more to learn on a smaller bike that you will eventually be able to throw around and then you can move to a bigger bike.

I know it's not about cars, but I moved the topic to "car chat" :)

1- well i just want a number to have an idea of how fast bikes are.
2- what exactly in twin? and is this better or worst than inline?
4-how does the boxer compare to the twin or inline?
6-behoove??
7-i still dont know how to know a bike is better than the other, apart from the motor, like in cars i can look at suspension, chasis, transmition, etc but in bike i dont know the brands and kinds of everything so i dont know if its good or not. do u know an internet page where they have alot of info where i can learn?

thanks again

I would go for Honda. But it's personal for everyone. They all are close.
And it's really no need for 1000 cc in the first year. I don't think it's even need for 600. Italian bikes are also not for beginners.
Something like Suzuki SV650 I think is the best choice for the first year.

I only spend one year driving bike with Yamaha YZF R6

from the looks of it, you know nil about bikes so i would suggest going to beginnerbikes.com and motorcycle-usa.com just because they have tons of forums with only motorcycle input and very good beginner threads and sticky posts that all newbies should read. i just thought you would get more input there than here.
