Hey guys,

I was approached by Dubai's Autodrome officials and was given a agreement to be trained professionally and paid and go race in FFSA French Championship Formula Campus Renault ELF 2006. it's a single seater car I think smaller than an F3 too with a 1.6 Renault engine as it was explained to me.

Anyway anybody heard of this series before, and what do you think about it. :D I need more info about this.

Obviously work, career and making a living are not top priorities for you - so why not just jump at the chance of being a paid-super-star-play-boy race car driver :P

Bother about the details later ;)

If you have time to invest into it, why not? You never know what comes next!

Give it a shot ... you are young only once. If you wait much longer you will be too old to get into serious cars like Champcars or F1. It'll take about 4-5 years to get to the top if you have the right stuff and have the right breaks.

Well even if you dont make it, you have the experience of a lifetime. So I see no negatives. You know that your fellow JWites will be rooting for you.

I really want to go through this program and when I think about it it's all right but the time is not right. I mean I just started 2 business of my own, a workshop and a performance part shop, so keeping up with both business and trainning is going to be very very difficult, and the agreement is not making is easy with all the stuff written in their about penelties for not attending one trainning day and stuff like that .. I'm not really sure what I should do.. it's be bothering me for 2 weeks now and I just posted to see what you guys think.

I really wish this thing came 3 month's ago, it would have made it a very easy choice. :| ... I'm confuesed :?

Congrats Evo. You have to think if you want to have a professional race driver career or a just a race driver for hobby. If you choose first option I say go for it but if you choose second option I say go for your business worls.

theres nothing wrong with being a 'gentleman' driver... i can see your dilema.

how is the buisness of starting up Lap 57 going?

have you hired, or do you have help from anyone who is familiar with doing the daily's of running the two shops?

is the time frame of the training/races interfere with dates you have set goals for in your new shop? if they interfere; is there enough time to hire/train somebody who is able to manage a few days w/out your help?

how many hours per day/ and weeks is the training? would it allow you to maintain some presance via various telecomunications whilst not attending a class; and still time for sleep?

if you can manage the opening of the shops, i'd guess that is the toughest part... being away for 1/2 the week (id guess thurs-sun) would only be tough if you dont have some trusted party who can manage w/out you...

hopefully those posed questions will help you in determining if its the right thing to do.

good luck :)

The problem will be that the days of a part-time champion driver are long gone..

You would need and want to give 110% to the race car driving, and not want to have to worry or bother about "business headaches" and problems, unless you are going to just to it as a part time hobby.

At 23 years old, I would ditch the businesses in a heart beat and focus on the racing.

In 8 or 10 years a race-shop being run by an ex-champion will be far easier to grow and promote, than a current race shop being run by an also-ran mid-field contestant ;)

I guess you could get someone else to run your businesses for a while, if you trust someone that much. This might be a once in a lifetime opportunity, I think I'd go for it.

i think insane has got a big point....i say go for it but watch for the person who is running your buissines....

Chance of a lifetime, i don't see how you could say no and live with yourself 10 years from now. Good luck Evo with whatever choice you make. We'll all be pulling for you. :D

Good luck Evo

I would go for the racing if I were your age, take some advice from us 30+ year olds who are now 'stuck' in our chosen careers!

(I work in an office and its boring although well paid)

Just to clear up things. I won't get paid for doing this.. .. As stated in the agreement at the end of the season I might be getting a reward.. I understand at this stage I should start learning and understand the lifestyle of a race driver but 1 year of dedication and then 5 years after I cancel my contract I can't go to any other team unless DA ( Dubai Autodrome ) agrees and for the next 7 years after my agreement finishes I have to dedicate 10 days for DA for any purpose they wait either for promoting something or train young kids in race school and stuff like that.

Honestly I really hate to be bossed around, that's why I own my own business so that I boss people around. ( Well I am very polite when doing so  )

I got 1 more day to make up my mind..

Can't die wondering. Hire some trusty folks to run the business if you want some stability.

Actually that whole contract sounds way too onesided for a "no pay" offer.

Restraint of trade/practice/earning clauses are normally associated with an offer of high payment to guarantee return on the money paid - not to enslave someone.... then again I am speaking from a western perspective.

How old is this program and how successful have previous participants been?

After seeing the terms I would say drop the entire idea, make your race/tuning/import companies succesful, then take your fortune and go racing on YOU terms like Paul Newman does :P ;) hehe

Just do it Owais :P

And when you need a team-mate when you enter the FIA GT or Le Mans... you just need to call me :D 8)

BTW, those Formula Renault 1600 Elf Campus are not that bad to start with. A friend of mine tried them for a year before moving to touring cars... and he said they were a very good school - although he came from 6 years in karting. Here're some pics:

Ok going to give you a call but if you need a team-mate you know who should come first.. :D

I been circuit racing cars for 5 years now. Never attended any type of competetion on track only fun days,Autocross is the only type of competitive race I been into.

Been in Kart for almost a year now and it's amazing how much you learn from them.

Honeslty speaking. I'm more into touring cars and stuff like than than F1 or F1 look alike. Although they are much faster and heck a lot better handling I still like normal cars better. When I was first approched I was told I was going to go through a program and become an instructer which I really really like and to tell you the truth a lot less stressful.

Well to add insult to injure. This is what is written in the agreement which makes me even more worried.

-The DRIVER takes entire financial responsibility for any damage caused by engine over-revving related to incorrect use of the car, without any limitation on the amount

-The DRIVER also takes financial responsibility for damage caused to the car assigned to hin on the occasion of an incident, whatever the driver's responsibility, and particularly in the following cases: Leaving the road, accident, collision, etc.
in this case, payment for the materiel damage caused on each incident must be paid to DA under the following conditions:

-For damage costing less than or equal to Euro2,000 ex VAT, the Driver undertakes to pay the corresponding sum to DA, on receipt of its invoice.
-For damages costing over Euro 2,000 ex VAT, the DRIVER undertakes to pay DA the excess of Euro2,000 ex VAT, excluding the costs of wheel rims and tyres.

This program is new, 4 guys and my self are the first people to be in this program.

So if you crash, you pay, even when you have zero income? That sucks. I'd stick to the businesses, now that I've read that.

When I read what is written in the contract I say walk away dude that contract are just positive for the other side, not for you from what I can read of it... :(

walk away, it might sound good, but if things goes wrong you can end up being fucked in more than on eway dude....

You are right best thing to do is to walk away.. I know I will be beating my self latter on but I think it's for the best.
