found this today, hopefully not a repost

these two guys compare the 2 supercars of each "century"
one is a "racing" version of the McLaren F1, owned by Nick Mason
and the new Veyron

"The truth is, apart from being the two fastest cars to set foot on the public road, there is little common ground between the Bugatti and the McLaren. Which is preferable depends on who you are. Would you rather sit in supersonic luxury in seat 1C on Concorde, or be deafened, frightened and thrilled beyond description flying an F-22 fighter? Me too."

sumed it up perfectly

i've always preferred the Mclaren F1 over the 1000hp - 400km\h car with the italian name
partly because it's much prettier, it's more practical and it's more exclusive
but mostly because the driver sits in the middle! how cool is that?!

Read the article in the paper ;)

Vid is pretty ordinary, if only there was more on the F1 than the handful of seconds in the end...

"more"? it goes from standing still to 60 in 2.5 secs and has a top speed of 252mph i think they've got more than enough out of it
and it will win a race with the mclaren

any idea how one could dl that video?

That was a really good read. I think the weight is what kinda kills it for the Veyron. Maybe they should have focused more on performance.

But thatts wat the boss of Vw wanted a car that could do everything from luxury to top class performance and there's no denying it does do everything but it just does not give me the same buzz as the McLaren F1 I love that thing to asolute death(well not literally) but i just cant see anything beating it in my eyes. I'd take the Macca Everysingle time it, IMO and I Agree totally with Tiff Needell That this is the greatest car ever to be made.

I`ll take my Veyron in an black on black please....

being i think the F1 is a wasted piece of crap (and for good reason) i too choose black on black (no two tone) with a red seats and black stitching. yes, that would be nice ;)

bah, they missed the CCR, and it would be the top speed fast but slow on track cars competition...

you know... its stupid to compare a racing version vs. a road car. no wonder it lapped top gear in 1:17.4 (unconfirmed)

Does anyone know since Senna did work under Honda/McLaren, did he ever test the McLaren and possibly put insight into it or did his Honda contract towards the NSX prevent that?

Well i don't think so, he did he was given the task of honing the NSX as you pointed out i don't think he helped with the macca. However he might have seeing as the Macca is a truly great car.

the veyron might win a drag race but that would be the only kind.
i would amend clarkson's analogy to: comparing an atheletic 100 pound dancer to a 200 pound fat girl with big boobs! :)
