Böblingen, Germany - Smart has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with British consortium Project Kimber, which should result in a contract that will give Project Kimber the license to redesign, produce and sell a roadster and roadster-coupe, previously made by Smart, under a different brand. The understanding also includes the intention to purchase production equipment no longer needed by Smart for the two models. The Smart roadster and roadster-coupe were discontinued last year as part of Smart's restructuring and strategic realignment; the models were never sold in Canada or the U.S. as originally intended. Smart will present a limited-edition "Collectors Edition" of the roadster and roadster-coupe, under its brand, at the upcoming Geneva Motorshow.
