Hi I use SmartRipper 2.41 then DVD2AVI then TMPGEnc to rip dvd usually.
They are pretty good programs, I can make dvd to VCD or SVCD or avi etc etc
this is a good site for stuff like that, lots of info lots of guides and downloads http://www.dvdrhelp.com/.
happy ripping and MERRY XMAS soon :P

I'm thinking it was a typo and FF meant to say Gordian Knot (http://gordianknot.sourceforge.net/) :)

I still use the old nandub...i fell in love with that codec/program, maybe due to my familiarization with it i can still put out encodes that rival, if not beat the xvid encodes (using virtualdub). Apparently...the new build of xvid is much improved..maybe i'll spend some time checking it out when exams are over :)
www.doom9.net is a good place to learn of different encoding techniques. I gained most of my knowledge of encoding/ripping from there :)
