"But not one, perhaps, to seriously challenge Europe and Japan’s best."
Ouch. I thought that was exactly Chevys idea.
WHo gives a fuck what the euro-journo's say ;) What Jpanese car could ven come close to this any way?
It's not like the car slows down when they speak.
It's still fast, the chassis basis for the LeMans winner, laps the Nurburgring like few others, outruns the Gallardo and F430 - costs less and has the longest single model run of any sports car in history.
There loss - not our... ;)

".. below 5000rpm it doesn’t punch with the authority you’d think it should"
They must be mad to say something like that with all that torque..
It seems the journalists were expecting a more civilized sports car that can be driven by anyone..
Below 5000rpm? WHta a crock - unless those amatuers are sitting in 5th gear at 1200rpm and wondering why it is slow off the line?
Funny stuff - because al the eurocrats will read the articles - love the fact that the "car is slow and unresponsive" - then be all shocked and pissed that the "slow and unresponsive" car beats the crap out of them on the road, track and anywhwre else they car to go.
What a joke ;)

I dont really see what all the fuss is about, theres at max only two comments that aint totally in favour of the corvette, but theres nothing really bad written about it. If anything I think they like the corvette. At the end it does say that PERHAPS some european and japanese cars would be better and some twisty roads, and its true. Surely the corvette is not the fastest.
Japan has the NSX-R
Europe has the F430
Them cars are definatly more technical and could tackle a twisty challenging road better than the corvette could. I admit if there was a long straight the corvette would have the edge.

Funny thing is that at track days the C5 Z)6 even runs rings around the NSX - and the C6 Z06 literally sucks the paint off the aluminium skin... This is a prime example of just how biased and brainwashed folks are.
It would appear that the F430 is an equal to C6 Z06 as borne out by actual track test times - yet just like happened with the 360 and 360CS people refuse to believe the possibilty that anything could possibly be anywhere near Ferrari - yet again and again over the last 6 years Porsche and Chevrolet have shown the F-Cars are NOT the ultimate tools... not by a long shot.
Again - open track challenge, track days and actual sports car racing in the USA has shown which are the best and most accomplished privateer tools - and the F-Car places no where.
Oh well - as said before, just because others don't give it credit doesn't make it any slower. ;)

Ferrari are more about driving pleasure than performance in my mind aswell, dont get me wrong. But untill I see a corvette beating a F430 or CS (because the CS was the ony 360 worth praise in my mind, the standard 360 was abit slow) around a technical course I wont believe it.
I think the corvette uses leaf springs very well, but when you actually need to turn the wheel, its not going to beat the top notch chassis and suspension setups of the the NSX-R or CS/F430. Its just going to do a fairly good job until the straight comes up.

The 'vette test driver lapped the Nordscheife at the 'Ring faster than HvS (forgot his full name, the guy that does the SA Supertests, who knows the Ring like the back of his hand) could lap it in the 430.

Yeah I'm not doubting that, but I bet my ass thats only because the corvette makes up loads of time on the straight, the corvettes hugh engine will fling the car at super speed.
I'm not doubting its fast on straights. But in that article at the end it suggest the european and jap cars are better on the twisty roads. People seem to be taking badly to that comment and I dont see why?

The statement is simply not true. I love how people simply assume that the non-european does not generate grip in turns, is unstable and unpredictable and needs a straight line to catch up.
I think the fact that the CS only seems to race in a single make series is probably more proof it is not really able to take Porsche or BMW or Chevrolet head on in the privateer circles..
But the CS sure makes a good poser tool to use at the local StarBucks.. ;)

Again - a correction, a Sportscar Owner... first.. Z06 owner second.
Your bias is clear in your statement that "you will not believe it till you see it" :)
I am not sure if you realise just how slow an F360 and F360CS are - it was quite sad the way I could real them in on the public roads.. talk abotu being gutless below 5,000rpm ;)

Yup, a 360 is slow. I mean, 4.3 seconds or something like that for a 0-60 time, it's pretty much one of the slowest cars out there on the road. Especially against a modified vette which is not as fast when stock ;)

My bias is clear to only you then, I dont simply believe some thing is true just because I want it to be true... like you wanting the Z06 to be a perfect car, so you believe it is and thats all you believe. I actually watch videos and read articles also talk to people to find out my views on cars. And I will take note of what is said to come to a fair and UNBIASED view. If anyone whos actually driven the car makes points about the car, i value there view, if its a good thing then good :) if its a bad thing, then fair enough, I dont just turn a blind eye and not believe them, that would be BIASED would'nt it.
The statement is simply not true. I love how people simply assume that the non-european does not generate grip in turns, is unstable and unpredictable and needs a straight line to catch up:
First off Grip is not the only thing the F430 would beat the ZO6 at. Driving feel, and the whole setup and dynamics of the car determine how fast a car can move through a corner. I like the Z06 dont go thinking im a hater of it. But when I read a review on it im not going to moan over a few crits. No car is perfect, not even the Z06. Please dont take this the wrong way, you sound like a fan boy who only wants to hear good things about the corvette, and nothing bad. Also I did mention i dont thing the 360 is fast, but i do believe the CS is around a track, and i do believe you did reel a 360 in on a nice straight road, so you should with 3500cc more, its nothing impressive from a technical standpoint.
Yup, a 360 is slow. I mean, 4.3 seconds or something like that for a 0-60 time, it's pretty much one of the slowest cars out there on the road. Especially against a modified vette which is not as fast when stock ;)
Correction - I was realing in 360's when my car was stock.. and the 360 was not - with it's tubi exhaust and tune .. ;)
The CS was probably not stock either, and all I had was an air filter :)
And whether you choose to believe it or not, the 360 is not that quick in the grand scheme of things - or maybe having 70,000 miles in a 4s 0-60 car does that to you - set you expectaiton of "speed" a little higher than others ;)
Please dont take this the wrong way, you sound like a fan boy who only wants to hear good things about the corvette, and nothing bad.
Fanboy? I don't think so. ;)
I am the first in line to slam the cheap ass plastic bathtub for the reasons it needs to be slammed - but the unfounded "rumour" stuff is what I don't feel should go down without objection :)
Just because you "believe" it should be as bad in certain areas as you have been convinced to "know" it is... does not make it so ;)
Of course the car is not perfect, far from it - and mine even more so - it is the very first edition of the modern era Z06.. full of issues and problems - but the areas that is should not be slammed are the areas that count, Go, Turn and Stop
Why is it so hard to accept that the car actually does Go,Stop and Turn with top 1% of cars out there?
It's badly made, full of plastic, has no "refinement" or CD changer, or power seats, frilly pillows, or carbon fibre doo-dads or even seats with seat belt cutous...
Hell it even shares radios with the Chevy Tahoe.. ;)
But - until you have actually benn given the chance to personally feel how it can Go, Stop and Turn you are really just basing everything on the biased words of others ;)
Strange how the ability of the 911 to pitch you into a dicth is named "character" - but the fact that the Z06 demands you sit up and pay attention 110% of the time the car is"unpredictable and stiff".. ;)
Oh well - to each their own.. ;)

From what I read, a C5 is closer to a 4.3 second car, or it could have been the previous model... but I think calling something as fast as a 360 slow, is just trying to show off with a .1 or .2 faster times off the line. The 360 will still impress more on a track, as well as in the looks stake *shrug*

For some drivers speed is not everything; for instance, I have just read this in Rennteam.com :
I used to own the previous generation C5 Z06. Even though I could lap Streets of Willow racetrack several seconds per lap quicker than in my NSX (yes, I drive my cars as they were intended, not just to get Starbucks in La Jolla), I never considered it as enjoyable to drive as the latter. I own neither car now, but when I look back on both, I only regret selling the NSX.

Please RC, these are your own words not mine. Im not saying it cant take corners, I'm saying its cant be to the standard of the F430 and NSX-R thats all I said and nothing other than that. I dont find it hard to believe it can take corners well, it does it better than anyother american car, and thats a merit for the corvette for sure. I'd have one myslelf even, but that does'nt mean ill not accept critisim about the car.

oh, so now he changes his story ;)
on a tight track... HHR
F430 _____ 1:12.7
NSX-R____ 1:14.6
STD C6___1:14.8
there goes your theory about the NSX-R being a better handler ;)
dont believe everything you see on Best Motoring
so... we all know the Z06 is faster, and even a C5 Zo6 is faster then the C6... so there goes your NSX-R argument right there
comparing the C5 vs C6 @ HHR 1:18.2= 3.4 seconds... and we'll esitmate that 100hp increase in power, and lower weight, wider tires, further refined chassis/suspension... at least another 2 seconds puts it on par with the F430
just an estimate... but im sure even you can see the logic there
Edit:
oh and the old 360 lapped HHR @ 1:15.1
and many have agreed that the C5 Z06 equalled, or bettered the 360 in the handling department.

Grrr nthfinity Grrr. Fair enough i have no problem with your estimation. But STILL the NSX-R must handle better if it can stay close to the 500bhp Z06. Same with the ferrari. The Corvette is only getting fast times because of the massive engine. Like this whole discussion is about, the Ferrari and NSX-R have better handling, thats the only point im trying to make, i mean the NSX-R has 280bhp. I rest my case.

3 Straights after one another more or less:roll: and that nordkurve could probably be taken as a straight anyway all you gotta do is brake by the looks of it, its like a super long straight :D. No disrespect, what your saying makes sense, estimations seem fair and everything, but cars are more than specs and numbers to me. I'm just going to wait and see till its been out awhile and been tested before I can say it takes corners as good as the best. and I hope it does, at that price it would be amazing. But giving me laps times doe'nt prove it can take corners as good as the big dogs, its most likely means its got a bigger engine than them.

3 Straights after one another more or less:roll:
very short straights... on tight circuits such as this... an extra .3 g will negate 100 hp... as the slower cornering car has to make up ... depending on a turn...a 5+mph difference... the lenght of those straights is definately decieving to scale... 1.6 miles... yes, a hi-po car will make up a difference... but it also has to brake earlier even if it has the same cornering ability... so there again... the NSX/F360 would seem to win out... less weight = better braking power... so the hevier C6 has to even brake earlier as its supposedly going faster in the straights... and weighs more.... mabey its just a better car overall? ;)
No disrespect,
right back at ya :)
but cars are more than specs and numbers to me. I'm just going to wait and see till its been out awhile and been tested before I can say it takes corners as good as the best. and I hope it does, at that price it would be amazing.
agreed... this is why so many mustang cobras, and Lightnings are able to push Corvettes, and Z06's on the street... a lot comes down to the drivers own ability to be comfortable pushing his car.... so often, the car is way beyond the driver in terms of true sports cars... including NSX-R's and F360's and F430's, CGT's, Enzos etc. and even in the case of cars like the F50 GT... it has to be pushed hard to work right... othewise, it just isn't generating the heat in the tires/brakes... the d/f needed...
But giving me laps times doe'nt prove it can take corners as good as the big dogs, its most likely means its got a bigger engine than them.
is this why the Bugatti Veyron does the NS in 8:30??? (equalling a Z4)
I'm just going to wait and see till its been out awhile and been tested before I can say it takes corners as good as the best. and I hope it does, at that price it would be amazing.
OK - wait and see for the 2006 C6 Z06 (C666  ) vs the rest results.. but you have to then at least accept that the C5 Z06 vs F360 vs F360CS vs NSX vs NSX-R vs GT3 etc argument has been answered for the last 5 years - over and over and over and over and over again.
Why is it so hard to accept - folks who have owned all these cars have spoken many times as to just how good the C5 Z06 and the GT3 are compared to all the other pretenders in the class (and a few others).
It would seem that again the bias is so ingrained that not only are you "awaiting a verdict on the current models" you are at the same time dismissing 6 years of review and contest as nonsense and trash ;)

It would seem that again the bias is so ingrained that not only are you "awaiting a verdict on the current models" you are at the same time dismissing 6 years of review and contest as nonsense and trash ;)
:)
Face it - you'll NEVER accept the posibilty - ever ever ever in a million year ;)
I'll accept anything thats fair and I can see with my own two eyes. Lets just wait for the topgear test shall we? Where did the last corvette come on topgear test track? Behind the CS :P
Well its 10:30pm and I need sleep, its been a pleasure talking to you two, its what makes cars intresting to me, the fact there diffrent and we can talk this way about them. good night fellas :)

Then you have to dismiss every magazine test and written review - afterall you "never saw them" :)

Why? JC is an admitted Corvette hater.

That was the hairdresser Z51.. Your point? The C5 Z06 is strees better than even the C6 Z51.. 2 totally different cars. Chalk and Cheese.
Besides - why do you have to wait for the C6 Z06 test to come in? That onlt covers C6 Z vs F430 vs other current cars.
you still haven't accepted the well documented superiority of the C5 Z and GT3 over the 360, 360CS, NSX, NSX-R etc ;)
These are 5 year old events... which you still are in denial about ...

I brushed my teeth, come for a quick look before i hit the hay to see what comments have been made. I'll be brief. I have not seen any review or showing a of the corvette kicking ass so after all, I never did see them literally:P
when i said top gear test I meant lets see what time it gets around the track with the stig. and im not in denial, far from it, if you can direct me to one of the well documented sources of how superior the C5 Z is I would really like to see. If after reading or seeing it I'll glad say I was wrong, and admit i was wrong. Like i said im not a corvette or american bashing person like you think I am, its just what I genuinly believe. :) ok RC im of to go and dream about about ferraris and NSX's, maybe a corvette

but the fact that the Z06 demands you sit up and pay attention 110% of the time the car is"unpredictable and stiff".. ;)
C/D about the Z06:
'Swaggers like a bad-ass and is at times unpredictable.'
And that trait gives the 911 "character" but makes the Z06 "not so good"? ;) hehe
Talk abotu double standard... :P
Sorry, couldnt let you get away with this one
Those were 911's from the 80s and before.. I dont think anyone has said anything like that about the 997...
You just have to admit the C6 Z06 is a dangerous car. You have to know how to drive it or else you'll be easily overwhelmed with performance :)

No more dangerous than any other 3100lb 500hp car.
I mean we see lots of other smashed hipo cars in ditches, against trees, on the curbs, railing etc... but you don't see people yelling "The Carrera GT is a Killer" - "The Zonda is Death Trap" - "The Ford GT is Suicidal" - "The F360 is sheer lunacy" etc etc... :)
The car is not unpredictable and dangerous - it is a hipo car.
Pussy's need not apply.
And for the record I know a number of 993 and 996 drivers here at work who all say if you don't pay attention the 911 will still hurt you when you are going fast - maybe not offthrottle oversteer from hell, but they are not "piss easy cars" to drive fast.

Here's a message for you to read in the morning... ;)
We are discussing performance differences that are quite small - differences in speed and time that could be quite impacted by user expertise... but the thing is y'all make it sound like large bus vs a formula 1 car. ;)
