when does the real TopGear begin?

I started downloading some 89' TopGear but I was surprised todiscover a veeery boring magazine about cars.
Can anyone tell me when does the real TopGear begin (eventually when does J.Clarkson apper for the first time)?

2002 was the first season of the 'modern' setup of Top Gear,
but JC has been on it for years :wink:

Jeremy actually appeared in Top Gear for the first time in '89 with some swap meet feature. He was different from other presenters but he was still a bit boring then. You don't really see the real him til around '91 when he started to get more screen time.

Basically, Top Gear started to shine with the Jeremy Clarkson, Tiff Needell and VBH trio in the late 90s 8)
