Edit: just won another game by 10 pts. ;)
basically, right now they're 27-5 for the regular season...
San antonio, and Dallas are fairly close... at 26-8, and 26-9 respectively...
i'll be serioulsy impressed if they match the Detroit Tigers' '84 season standing record of 35-5.... yeah, i can talk 'old' baseball for

they wooped the spurs pretty easily, injuries aside they look unstoppable

i've lost interest in the nhl, hopefully the playoffs are gonna be better, atlanta and maybe the sabres are the only teams that i care to watch...
...Jays/Yankees playoffs this year, hopefully

what can i say...
im a detroit sports guy (well, i very rarely watch the Lions... and really, im not the biggest pistons fan either...
but i'll always take a kin to my home teams... particularly the Tigers (they are mostly crap these days, and im quite disappointed that they fired Trammel as head coach... few people know baseball as well as Allen Trammel knows baseball... he was just plagued with a shit team... which is why it was better when Tom Monighan owned the team IMO ) i think Illich sees the tigers as a way to sell more Pizza
anyway... Detroit Hockey is having a roller coaster year, ups and downs... the new rules are leading to tons of goals scored, and make a shutout that much more special ;)
well, just my opionions

i was a huge red wings fan when they had the russian five, that first cup was great to watch, the colorado series and all the fights, especially McCarty and Roy, it didn't get any better, Bowman came from the Pens, that team was insane. But then when Giguerre shut out the wings, while facing 60 shots a night, I lost interest, especially with Cujo in net ( the Karyia goal from behind the net) ... the avs/wings games of the 90's were awesome
...some other things stand out too, when they won it with the hasek, even though he play like shit, that Datsyuk goal...

...scotty skating with the cup, that was fun to watch, but the new nhl is weak, the rivalries are not what they used to be and all of this salary cap bullshit and price escalation I think its taken away from the sport...too much Betman
...only thing that's holding the nhl up for me is the new players, Nash, Spezza, Crosby, Ovechkin, Kovalchuk etc...
just my opinion on the matter

As a huge Colorado Avalanche fan, I am naturally not a fan of the Red Wings. For some reason I just don't think the Detroit teams have the respect or the fan base that other teams have (outside of Michigan).
I feel that the only big publicity that Detroit will see anytime soon is when the Superbowl is there and that will be including the Denver Broncos :P . So I suppose for that one day, I'll give the motor city a break.
Edit: The Nuggets are no prize either.

the Steelers are gonna take it, pending the bus doesn't have another tire blow out on him, or the blatant missed calls

Ok..I'll give you the missed calls bit. The Indy/Pitt game was very poorly officiated, but I'm glad to see Pit win that one. My whole family is from there so this Sunday will be huge for me.
I still think that the Broncos will take it. They have yet to lose a home game this year. Pitt is great on the road, but Mile High Stadium is something crazy once the fans get going. It's out defense that will win it for us, not Jake "the snake".

nobody expects Detroit to win, and that is something special.
you're right that people outside of Michigan dont respect the Detroit teams... and im always cerious as to why... honestly, it doesnt really make sence to me... the Pistons for example, they dont have any superstars... just a great overall team.
the Redwings aren't full of superstars like they were in 96-97... but its just a great team...
the tigers... well, they're in a terrible off phase... honestly, i think when the Tigers come back as a contender team, it will be that team that brings baseball back to the wildness that it had in the 20's, 30's, 60's, 80's, and early 90's... i just have a hard time seeing that happen under Illich' ownership.
as far as the Detroit fans...
you will never find any city/state in the country supporting thier teams like we do, both in season, and after the championships... people just seem to remember the rukus in the immediacy
find any city that has 2,000,000 people for the victory parade for any team... mabey NY for baseball... mabey.
so my conclusions: it doesnt matter that the country doesnt like Detroit; we can enjoy ourselves without your moral support

a win tonight will match the most amazing season in Detroit history... the 84' Tigers started the season with 35-5...
no superstars... just a great team :)
they're trailing by 3 in the first quarter.

the game just finished in overtime... 35 wins 5 losses, on a 9 game winning streak... for a minute in the 4th, it looked as if the pistons might lose it... but they pulled a rabbit from the hat...
cheers guys! 8)
