I thought that since there is official confirmation of the new flagship name, the Ferrari 599 GTB deserves its own thread :D
So, put all the latest news, pics, etc... HERE!
From the owners website:
With the release of the 599 GTB Ferrari is presenting its most powerful V12-engined production car of all time.
Amedeo Felisa, Ferrari’s Vice General Manager, officially announced the new model in occasion of the opening of the Detroit Motor Show on the 9th of January.
The new car is a concentration of Ferrari’s most innovative and technologically advanced engineering solutions applied to a mid-front engined two-seater coupé. The result is a new benchmark for performance, driver involvement and design.
The Ferrari 599 GTB boasts class-leading power thanks to its 5,999cc V12 - derived directly from the Enzo Ferrari supercar – which produces no less than 620hp at 7,600 rpm for a weight/power ratio of just 2.6 kg per horsepower.
Ferrari has adopted the latest evolution in its tried and tested all-aluminium construction technology for the body and chassis.
The unmistakable Pininfarina design gives the Ferrari 599 GTB aggressive yet elegant lines which are perfectly integrated with the advanced aerodynamic solutions adopted to reach the performance figures attainable.
This new model is the symbol of Ferrari’s production – the V12 berlinetta – and represents the latest interpretation of a theme that has seen such classics as the 250 GT, the 275 GTB, and the 365 GTB4.
The Ferrari 599 GTB replaces the last in that great line of berlinettas, the 575M Maranello, of which – together with the 550 Maranello introduced in 1996 - no fewer than 5,700 have been produced, a record for this type of model for the Prancing Horse.
The new car will be officially unveiled on the 28th of February 2006 at the Geneva Motor Show.

620*2.6 = 1612 kg. That's better than the 575 M. But the 612 Scaglietti was also announced as lighter than the 456 but is, inreality, heavier so ...
Anyway, the Murcielago will need and upgrade to stay in touch  From what we can read it should arrive for the Geneva Show too :P
Edit : I forgot to thank you for the info mate

559 GTB in Geneva = yg60m driving, flying, walking,... (whatever you like) to Geneva :D
Yeah, its probably a little optimistic that it weighs 1612 kg, but hell, they won't under-weigh it by more than 30 kg.... which means it weighs closer to 1642 kg... still not bad
In any case, this car will pose a real threat to the SLR, and thats saying something

I cant wait to see one in person, it has some very nice curves..all over
Thanks for the info nejcdolinsek
Nice info!
The pics we have so far show some fussy styling IMO, but i don't mind it, i'm sure it will grow on me just as the Scaglietti 8)
620hp should alow it to keep in touch with the new Murcie, but i'm sure this will be a superior drive - the 550/575 has been a FR handling benchmark for 10 years now :good:

Do you notice (on the first pic) how the rear buttress is above the rear window, which is semi-circular??? Now THAT, my friends, is one hellofa detail!

Eww. . . those aren't official yet right? Feb 26th is the official launch date right?
So it'll be called the 599 GTB, what happened to the name of the car, Imola? Why not call it a 600?

Nice, high res pics. Thx for those and also for the info.
620hp... that can't be bad :D It's probably going to be very expensive I think. A lot more then the current 575.

Yup, the pics are official. Its not going to be the 600 Imola, because that was just the speculative name the press used for the new 599 GTB. Besides, I much perfer the name "599 GTB", than "600 Imola"...
The car will be announced at Detroit, but the unveiling will be at Geneva.

I'm totally not convinced by its styling. But that's the problem I had with al recently (i.e. max 9 years ago) released Ferraris. I don't like their styling from the start but they grow on me through time. But still I miss the sparkle that put me on fire when seeing such great Ferraris as the f355, Testarossa/512 etc. for the first time.

Mr Ferrari didn't like round numbers :D

I will have to see it for real to make myself a proper opinion, ferrari's press pics aren't enough, the same happened with the scaglietti which I didn't really like at the beginning and then we all started seeing them on our roads ...

U.g.l.y. :puke:
That's really how its going to look? I thought Ferrari's were supposed to be about good performance and good looks...the 550/575 Maranello was drop dead gorgeous...what happened with this?
The specs look nice though, and if they can actually cut the weight or keep it the same that'd be nice, but somehow I doubt it, Ferrari is always a bit 'optimistic' with their numbers. :P
Thanks for the pics and specs. 8)

The 599 GTB has a sophisticated design , most certainly the shape was dictated by the aero needs of the car , I`am sure that in terms of downforce it will easily outclass the competition.
And in my opinion the design says agressivity all the way.

The styling is like Marmite, you either love it or hate it. I like it apart from the wheels. I feel a good wheel design can make or bresak a car and so far those rims look horrible. What it needs are 19inch rims like the ones used on the Novitec F430 with phat low profile tires 8)
As for the specs, you cant argue with those. They have trhe capeability to beat the SLR and it will be lighter. It will also no doubt have the Front mid engined layout which creates the perfect balance and is the most attractive layout for a car. I was unsure about the styling as it looks to like the scaglietti but that styling is growing on me, and this car is every moment. Cant wait to get some pictures of a real car as no dou bt everyone knows those images are a combination of computer generated and hand drawn graphics. I will probably wait and draw a full conclusion on the car when we get those images!
EDIT: ok so the rims are aparently 19 and 20 inch but i think the clearnace between the wheel arch and the top of the tyre should be a lot less to make it look more sporty like the brabus slr

the front does look like IMO, cause of the headlights and the grill... not that it all looks like the 612

I can't believe anyone is ripping on this design. It's unbelievably beautiful and Pininfarina/Ferrari are years ahead of anyone else. The look is timeless and believe me there are no "mistakes". There better be no more criticisms of the masterpiece known as the 599 GTB.

I dream about double lighted ferraris every night (the enzo, 360cs, f430 f50...) but the beautiful appearance of the 599 is destroyed by adding double tail lights. You guys are idiots. Sorry for saying so but you're going to worship this car in a few years... worship it.

I have to say, my initial dislike for the 599 is waning more and more each time I see one in a dark color. There are aspects of the design that still bother me (the sharply defined "V" in the hood, the headlights, and the fact that the front fenders look like they've ballooned from some angles), but darker colors tend to hide some of the fussier details. The fact that these shots actually show the rear end of the car make a big difference too. It looks pretty well-proportioned to me now and the rear diffuser doesn't look too big like it does on the F430. I can't wait to see more high-res pics and perhaps the car on the road as well :-)

First Official Details of the New Ferrari 599 GTB Released
With the release of the 599 GTB, Ferrari is presenting its most powerful V12-engined production car of all time.
The new car is a concentration of Ferrari's most innovative and technologically advanced engineering solutions applied to a mid-front engined two-seater coupe. The result is a new benchmark for performance, driver involvement and design.
The Ferrari 599 GTB boasts class-leading power thanks to its 6-liter V12 - derived directly from the Enzo Ferrari supercar - which produces no less than 620 bhp at 7,600 rpm for a weight/power ratio of just 2.6 kg per horsepower.
Ferrari has adopted the latest evolution in its tried and tested all-aluminum construction technology for the body and chassis.
The unmistakable Pininfarina design gives the Ferrari 559 GTB aggressive yet elegant lines which are perfectly integrated with the advanced aerodynamic solutions adopted to reach the performance figures attainable.
This new model is the symbol of Ferrari's production - the V12 berlinetta - and represents the latest interpretation of a theme that has seen such classics as the 250 GT, the 275 GTB, and the 365 GTB4.
The Ferrari 599 GTB replaces the last in that great line of berlinettas, the 575M Maranello, of which - together with the 550 Maranello introduced in 1996 - no fewer than 5,700 have been produced, a record for this type of model for the Prancing Horse.
The new car will be officially unveiled on the 28th of February 2006 at the Geneva Motor Show.
RSportsCars.com Exclusive: The Ferrari 599 Caught Filming a Commercial (Published: 2/15/2006)
RSportsCars.com has obtained exclusive images of the new Ferrari 599 GTB and a Ferrari F40, taken during filming of a commercial in Valley of Fire State Park, Las Vegas. The filming was done by a helicopter which followed the two cars as they were driven on a narrow two-lane canyon road at fairly high speeds. The Ferrari's commercial for the 599 is scheduled to be shown in Europe in May or June 2006.
Mike Olivella, who photographed the cars, commented: "At the staging area, they spent the entire time polishing and wiping down both cars. The F40 could blow the 599 away, but the F40 driver was careful to make it look like the 599 was every bit as powerful."
"The 599 had a V-12, 620-horsepower engine, but it was not in the same class as the F40," Mike Olivella continued. "Most of the spectators (the few that were there) commented that the car looked more like a Jaguar than a Ferrari, and were more enthralled by the F40 than the 599."
"The drivers were incredible. I drove the road that they filmed the cars on, and it was a very windy, up and down two-lane road. These guys really opened the cars up and to watch them negotiate the turns and the dips was something to see."

....dude I think you're being a bit harsh, people are entitled to their own opinion and are allowed to express it here and in every corner of JW, so let it go, what's the fun in everyone agreeing it's perfect anyways?and just a side note....I'm sure you don't mean it in a bad way, but it's the second time you call peolpe stupid/idiots in this thread.
3.4 sounds a bit optimistic, as ches3er said 3.9 sounds more accurate, but the 997 turbo is not competing against the 599 anyways, the 430 is.
About the 599, I have to say that with these new real pics, my doubts about the rear have vanished, I now think the rear looks amazing, the single tailights setup looks good and just right for this car. The new wheels are 100 times better than those crappy ass star shaped ones. Everything on this car is turning out great IMO, the only thing I'm having a hard time accepting is the hard edged hump on the bonnet which I think doesn't flow with the curves of the rest of the car.
With every new Ferrari, convtoversy comes along. It took some time for me to comprehend the styling cues of the Enzo and the F430, first I thought were horrible, and that Pininfarina & Ferrari had gone bezerk, but in time, and with better pics, you really learn appreciate their beauty.
I can hardly wait for a real review...and I will wait eagerly until The Stig gets his hands on it
oh and since we are talking about the single tailights...what Ferrari was the first to feature double tailights?

3.5 seconds is the said 0-100kph sprint in 'over-boost' which is 10 seconds of an additional .2 bar of pressure making an additional 60 ft. lbs. of torque, and something like 30 more hp....
i do agree that turbos' competition isnt the 599 GTB... but niether is the F430, mind you... that is GT3's stomping grounds.... if hte 997 turbo happens to be faster then the Ferrari F430, that is just an added bonus (im talking about round a track mostly)... and we already know the Turbo will be a daily driver in many folks hands... and more capable at it.
so what's the reason to get the F430 again??? oh, yeah... its a Ferrari. meh... i'd shoot for the FGT :P

Hi new to this thread I believe the first with two lights was the 365GTB/4 or if you count it as a Fezza, the Dino. By the way I think the 599 is great its has retro styling cues i.e the 275 (most fezzas from the sixties did not have twin rear lights nor did other greats like the 512TR) but it is new and not a design cop out like the new Muira or Ford GT.

Yep, it's 3.9s. 480BHP even with 4WD wouldn't get a car weighing in at 1600kg's in 3.4 seconds.

Welcome to JW and thanks for the informational first post.
Agreed that the Muira and Ford GT was more a reiteration. But nevertheless the Ford GT's shape looks freaking great today! That is definitely one of the sexiest shape in automotive history. (I personally can't say the same for the Muira.)

Looks really amazing :) Just one detail: They will have to soon remove the lights from the rear difuser:
1. They must particularly spoil the function of the difuser
2. They will be all the tïme dirty
But I love its look :)

Found some tech info about 599 GTB
620 hp @ 7600 rpm
Weight 1580Kg
The sequential gearbox , changes in 0.100 sec
No E-diff , it appears that the manettino , has 5 different settings for the ESP control :? I don`t know for sure
Speed : over 330 km/h
Acc figures
0-100 km/h in 3.7sec
0-200 km/h in 11sec
0-1000 metres in 20.6 sec
FABOLOUS!!! And remember.. Ferrari always understates its cars' performance figures.. they're quite modest.
Think of the F430, they said 0-60 in 4.0 ... we've had magazines scan it from 3.5 to 3.7-8
R.I.P Mercedes McLaren SLR
It's 599 GTB's time to OUTSHINE each and everyone in it's price-range :)

Some are old ones but I think some are new also some are of a higher res check it out. I like the shot of the black one's crema interior mainly because it doesn't have the carbon fibre trim and I think looks the better for it. Also like the shot two rows directly below.

OMG that gray one is just sex on wheels...I dare someone to say that thing doesn't look good!
The 599 just loks to clumsy.
The F550/F575 is the ultimate Ferrari GT silohette. It cannot be improved upon, and the clumsy awkward look of the 599 proves this :)
Just like the 360/430 destroyed the perfect lines of the F355 - so does the 599 play far to much into the hands of the posers and Starbucks crowd.
The performance may be there, but the style is bybe-bye ;)

I'll have to disagree with you both then. :) Although I do agree that the 575M was an absolutely stunning car, I don't think this was meant to be a successor in the design sense. The 599 looks like a futuristic muscle car, which it is. :)
And if great car design is being able to clearly display your intent and purpose, then this one gets full marks. ;)
The 599 looks nothing like a muscle car.
The poofta headlights and the goofy rear end just look like too many ideas all lumped together - reminds me a lot of the Enzo in that sense.. they seemed to be have drawn some great bits... then could not figure out how to pull them all together, so they just took a ruler and made some lines.. ;)
I HATE how so many see the 360 as ruining the line of the 355. In terms of the way a Ferrari looks, the 355 stood with cars such as the 348, but abandoned the smooth, flowing CURVES of all the Ferrari's before it, especially the gorgoeous 308. As nice as the 355 is, its dated and flat, the 360 has the absolute perfect proportions, and stands out, to me at least, as most likely the best looking V8 they have made, and judging by the 430, are liekly ever to make.
As well, these new Ferraris are not cars that a picture is able to properly show. THe curves, radii, the way lines flow into eachother are only seen when seen in person. A static picture will never truly express lines that are designed for being seen in person, absorbed fully and seeing the integration of all the various lines. As an example, i took some friends to the dealer by my place, and all of them found that seeing an enzo in person makes it a MUCH better looking car. And anyone whos seen a 550 in person will be lying if they say that a picture is able to capture its proportions and style to even a tenth of a degree.

I don't see why you would want to compare the two in the first place, because the AMV8 is just too small a car, so the proportions are completely different. That said, the DB9 or Vanquish would be a better comparison. They're both very handsome, but they're just too similar to each other, IMO, which makes the DB9 a little unoriginal :?

hey guys,
for me the 599gtb is a clear case of "average on photos - georgious in flesh". I guess its looks depend more strongly than other ferraris' on rims & color as well. They had very different combinations in Geneva and I really liked some while others were disappointing.
But in the end, it was the only car worth going to Geneva for, I absolutely love it, and for a Porsche fan that's saying A LOT :)

I don't think we'll see one until a private car shows up. Its highly unlikely they'll have a gated 6-speed as a press car. I also think that the gated shifter will be elevated from the central collum, a la 612 or F430. A bad thing, IMO.
BTW, does anyone know when the first reviews are gonna take place????? I'm dying to read/watch (and HEAR  ) some reviews!

A bad thing? Like the design was neglected?
Remember the gated boxes in classic 250 ferraris like the gto and 250LM? They had an elevated box.
Do you not like them?

Remember the gated boxes in classic 250 ferraris like the gto and 250LM? They had an elevated box.
Do you not like them?
Good point about the past cars having that. However, I still don't like it, because it looks as if it was just an afterthought, as if the engineers only put in the effort for the F1 trans...
Just my 0.02

I saw a 599 today at stockholm motorshow and first I have to say that after have seen it on the net and those first officil pics I thought it looked like shit basically and thought that ferrari are doing one ugly car after an other, I mean Enzo ( I have seen 2 today, and a FXX! ) 612 and 430 ( where 4 at the show ) arent very good looking cars like the 550 and F40 ( seen 2 of these to! ) and F50 ( only one today ) but sure they are striking.
well the 599 just blew me away! I had to go back for a second look because it is just a stunning looking car! but not from all angles but I guess those bad curves or what ever is needed to make it look so bloody good in the right angles.
well it looks amazing head on and a bit to the sides, but going round it looking more and more from the side its great to a certain point when you see that its not really a balanced design since the rear is so high and the front kind of low and cut of but its all these things that are the good things when looking from the front. but from the side it looks strange.
couldnt get a good view of the rear since the position of the car but it probably looks fantastic.
If I had the money when I was there today I would have bought it straight away! its THAT striking! and you just know that DRIVING it is the LAST thing that is going to let you down.
cant wait to see one on the street!

Anyone have a pic of a manual trans 599?
I don't think we'll see one until a private car shows up. Its highly unlikely they'll have a gated 6-speed as a press car. I also think that the gated shifter will be elevated from the central collum, a la 612 or F430. A bad thing, IMO.
BTW, does anyone know when the first reviews are gonna take place????? I'm dying to read/watch (and HEAR  ) some reviews!

Damn! Its a such a sexy and sweet car. My dad has ordered one for himself, should be arriving early 2007 as our dealer has told us in Dubai. Update you guys later on it.
He was choosing between the 612 Scagletti and the 599 GTB but i think he wants the 599 GTB, doesnt find the 612 attractive, i guess.

Let us know all you can I guarantee the 599 will become one of the most famous ferraris/cars of our time. Can wait to hear more.
tom333 - Will certainly do. Unfortunately i was abroad at university when my dad was signing the papers but i think mid- june he has to go and choose the exterior and interior colours so hopefully i should go with him.
Heard alot of good things about the car, yup i hope it remains a famous in the future. Thanks buddy.
