View Full Version : ** WE LOST ONE ADMIN LETS NOT LOOSE ANOTHER **

First I just want to say a big thanks to Dan for still helping out while I try to work out what the future of JW will be...along with TT.
Speaking of which I cant thank TT enough as he has been a real tower of strength today during one of our darkest hours...and he has already managed to put the much requested dl club back into operation. So BIG THANKS for that.
We are of course nowhere near as skilled as the super admin Dan so don't expect things to always work correctly or to be fixed immediately..I will do my best to try and think of work arounds to get those essential videos posted should we have any problems.
In the mean time lets just thank TT for all the time and work he does already and the fact that he and I will be working our asses off trying to get everything sorted out over the next few days...it was bad enough when there were three of us inc a super admin and now we are just down to two (unless I can get fishfreak to help out as well)
It would also be a big help if everyone tried to show some understanding and patience rather than leaving the site in a huff cause something wasn't working quite right for them....lets all try and pull together and carry on all the great work Dan has done here and make the site better than ever.
Rather than a dozen PM'S I will do my best to answer ANY questions anyone may have regarding the site in this thread only.
Thanks
Jabba

That's why I resisted to PM TT when there were changes on the beginning of the year : to not annoy him, I supposed that there were a lot of other people to do that ...
Thank you for everything : Dan, Jabba, TT and fishfreek (busy now but he helped also a lot).

While it's a shame that Dan stepped down, I have confidence that you can TT can pull this off, Jabba. There's no need to let it take over your lives, by any means, and I'm sure that all of the regulars will agree.
Thanks for all the hard work, hopefully it gets easier :)

Thanks very much for not leaving just yet Yann. You are a key media provider for the front page videos and I wish we had a few more people like you.
Perhaps if more people bothered to take a few seconds to vote or even comment on some of your videos then more people would start to submit them.
I think we are all going to have to improve BIG TIME on voting and commenting on front page videos from now on as this was one of many reasons why Allan and Dan decided to leave in the first place.

I will do my best to try and think of work arounds to get those essential videos posted should we have any problems.
IMO that is really kind of an overstatement. While the videos are what started JW and are part of the legacy, i really can't see how they are essential. I am sure we would lose alot of lurkers and leeches who will never contribute anything to the site at all if the videos made a permanent dissapearance, and we may lose one or 2 semi-active members, but i am fairly confident that the core of JW would remain. Especially those who have donated and waited paitiently for all the dust to settle, no matter what the outcome.
I've been wanting to learn a little of this coding that Dan always talked about so i could at least have some kind of understanding as to what it took to run/maintain/evolve something like this, and if in anyway it would help, i could try and help out a little with coding if i can grasp the concepts of everything. But since i don't know what it involves, or even where to begin (would one of those Programming for Dummies books work in this case? ) it would take a bit of time before becoming proficient at it.
For those that leave in a huff, i don't think they will really be missed as they are probably a large majority of the people who griped and got sand in their pussies over everything that has transpired. To them i say good riddance.
a little over a year ago i never thought i'd give a shit about a webforum. But after getting involved here..well, i think everyone within the core group understands that this is much much more than a webforum. It's more than a community. It's borderline civilization. And that in itself should be enough reason to back the leaders and have faith in what they do, wether or not you agree with it.
Cheers to Jabba, TT, Dan, Fishfreek, TransAm, RC45, Al, SFDMALEX, a007apl, St-Anger, Lakatu, and any other staffer i cannot remember ATM. You have all done an incredible job and i apologize for the lack of respect you've been shown from everyone else, including me.

I cant help but laugh at that (in a nice way) considering the amount of people that were moaning about the UL/DL club being removed for almost four days....someone even set up another forum and was asking people to sign up there due to us having a few problems...anyway thats all in the past...lets just try and get things back to normal now asap.

i respect any, and every desicion thats been made here
in the past; its been mostly drama queens being fags (badmihai/justin) and good ridence to the crap they were about.
this is definately become a soap opera the past month, and especially the past week... but definately not unfounded...
i have my opinion that alen's decision to leave that i dont think it was a sound decision... at least, its not what i would've concluded.
mabey he will return... but if he's looking for people to cry for him, i wont. he's made a decision... and shared it with those he's closest to on the forum, and thats that. he's done some great things for JW, and its users... and he will be missed.
whatever Dans, and Alens reasons, i will respect them... and leave it at that.
I will do whatever i can to avoid the loss of any of my JW brothers, our founder, and the remaining admins. also, if there is anything i can do; dont hesitate to ask :)

Jabba, TT and anybody helping them: take your time!
We all will (and should) be patient in the next days until things get back to "normal" !!
Indeed a pretty sad and difficult moment for JW, but we had others and we will have more in the future, as any other family.
What has to be said is that not only Dan did some amazing work as I never did before in any other forum, but he is leaving behind some pretty refined stuff, and not a totally messy website that has to be fixed.
For sure having him in the team was something unreal: everything was fixed before 0.01% of the members noticed something was wrong. Every improvable thing was improved and optimized and so on.
Sure, we need to learn a couple of things because if I have to be honest, since we had him around I got all lazy and rarely looked deep into things to understand how they work since he was always doing them. Sorry Dan, but you are so damn ninja-good that it seemed really useless to learn such stuff since I would always have been slower than you anyway :D
Anyway, we can deal with JW, maybe slower, maybe doing something wrong at times, but for me and Jabba JW is really deep into our skin (not wanting to say it wasn't for Dan: I rarely saw somebody as dedicated as him, respect!) and we will put every effort into it to make it work and stay alive :)
Thanks guys for the support and thanks to the ones that resisted the urge to PM me or the others, we were indeed flooded by PM and MSN/ICQ contacts lately ;)

Totally agree with what you have said and could not have said it better myself.
Well I have made it perfectly clear that I am not going anywhere, videos or no videos, or whatever 'era' I slot into , I want to contribute as much as I can to keep our home alive. Expect to see a lot more media coming from me, albeit a lot of the stuff I have didn't really fit into a category after the Paranormal section went. Having said that, I can offer it up for a decision to be made...
Sorry about the long PM as well, Jabba
Edit: I would however say that I genuinely think the person who set up an interim forum (because this has now been mentioned twice) was just trying to do something to help JW at a difficult time. Anyway, that is just my opinion and I don't expect anyone to necessarily agree with me.
Time to move forwards, upwards and onwards

Like others the DL wasn't and isn't the first place I visit, for me it is more of the Breaking News Cars (for Spy Shots :) ) and What You Saw Today and of course Car Chat. Those three forums alone were enough for me to come to this site over and over again.
The Videos were a very nice bonus and I can't Thank You guys enough for everyone that has contributed. I never even heard of Top Gear before I came here ;) .
Anyways, thanks again for everyone that has contributed to this great site. And thanks for all your time in setting this place up Jabba.

Well fuck, I already posted this elsewhere, but here's my 2 cents:
Truth be told, I've been amazed and a bit saddened to see how little respect the mods get on JW. The great majority of members lurk, download whatever they can and generally make few or no contributions to the substance of the site. Even I have been a part of that group. Not only are Jabba's, TT's, and Dan's contributions to the behind-the-scenes workings of the site unlauded, but they go unnoticed for the most part and when a change IS made, then everyone whines about it. I know I'm rehashing what a lot of the others have said already, but it sort of pisses me off too and I'm not even devoting what must be the better part of some of the mods' days to the site. To the mods, thank you for everything.
Dan, I'm sorry that your efforts don't get the support and notice that they should and moreover, I'm glad that you're wise enough to know when it's time to set things aside for other projects and not let one thing run your life.
Jabba, I'm sorry that so many of the people who frequent your eponymously named site make such poor contributions both financial and substance-wise. I know that this has been an immense burden on you and I hope that nobody trivializes it by suggesting that you can afford it based on your garage etc...
TT, I'm sorry you have 27k+ posts lol...you must spend incredible amounts of time here, uploading, downloading, responding and talking. I can't imagine how one would achieve that sort of post count in the amount of time that the site has been open, it must be some sort of record. I'm also sorry that you put so much time in here and get so little in terms of response from so many of the members.
SFDMALEX, Toronto, RC45, st-anger, a007pl, Minacious, TransAm, and anybody else whom I may have forgotten, thank you for all the work and time, and money that you have put into this site to make it what it is. I know that you dont' get the sort of recognition or thanks that you should either, and want y'all to know that there are those of us who DO.
Sorry, it's almost 3:20am and I've got a fencing tournament to go to tomorrow morning...lots of shit running through my head, but I thought that that needed to be said.

...iīve done "the one or other" thingy for JW myself but the one thing i definitely know is that my efforts are FAR AWAY from what guys like our leading team are doing every day - with my kinda tight timetable at work i thought iīm already spending quite some time here but what u guys are doing for us must be quite impossible to match :!:
iīd like to thank u all as a team because a single person, just like in business, is nothing, itīs very sad to see team members leaving but iīm sure with the help of some of our core members and hopefully some fresh, new guys in the future we can keep on running our beloved JW as good as possible and iīm very confident on that, JW is full of great ppl and i think i neednīt name any specific names weīd all come up with at least 5 to 10 ppl who once helped us out and stuff :P
my respect to all of you and i think i neednīt add that u all can come up to me with ... whatever ... and iīll try to do my best - JW is worth it :!:
that said iīd like to give my opinion on what (SFDM)Alex already pointed out in the Ferrari section as i see it more or less like he posted it there and iīd like to highlight our position a little more specifically - at least speaking for myself in the "Porsche Central" - itīs always great to get at least >some< feedback from the ppl but honestly i have to say that a simple "thank you", as nice as itīs meant and donīt get me wrong EVERYTHINGīs highly appreciated :!: , is nothing compared to a decent conversation/discussion after someone posted something and especially in the "dedicated car sections" i think itīs the right and imo very best place for just talking, asking and if u like: learning - donīt be afraid to ask something even if u think your question is some kind "silly" or "lower level" no one knows everything and u neednīt be ashamed when u donīt know e.g. what a 964 is or whatever...
what i want to tell, just as Alex pointed out:
A simple thank you means a lot...
but when u read something like this...
 pages 11 and 12 (http://www.motorworld.net/forum/showthread.php?p=582554#582554)
...where members are in for a descussion, go into greater detail, learn from each other and by doing all this develop a good friendship, then this is all what i need to continue without asking for something at all including hundreds of "thank you" - regardeless how much of my little time will go into it :P
of course this^^^ is just a (recent) example of "what can we do to make JW a even better place" - a nice "thank you" is a start, conversations like seen in the link above is the future of JW, personally iīd like to invite u to keep that in mind and 2006 will be another great year here at JW :!:
see u out there,
cheers,
st-A :P

Then theres the donations  what a joke that is, but I'll take this opportunity to thank the few good people who found it in themselves to help a little (or a lot), YOU GUYS ROCK! , strangely (or not) most of you are the same people who ever bothered to make an effort and have made being part of this site a good thing.
Well - hopefully the unwashed masses learn something from this - next time someone asks you for $5 to help keep your own freaking club going - don't go philisophical and look for a deeper meaning, just be a fucking man and give the damn $5.
:(
I am about to ask Dan to remove the donation meter now and I just wanted to add that it is truly amazing although it shouldn't have been any real surprise that the people that have been complaining and moaning the most over the last few weeks have donated the least and in one particular case and IMO the worst offender has donated ZERO.
On the other hand the people that do more than enough for the site already have donated the most and in some cases over and over again.
Then theres those where money is very tight and yet have still managed to send something or where sending by pay pal was difficult others have helped out by allowing their private bank accounts to be used for collection purposes which I am sure is highly inconvenient but very helpful.
Apart from thanking everyone once again I am also very tempted to publish the donation list but I guess that might be adding fuel to the fire so once again the people that have donated loose out...except that they should know that they have done their bit for the site and that I know who you are and am very grateful for your help no matter how big or small.
I would also like to thank everyone that offered to send something in the mail, even though it hasn't been possible to accept these donations its the thought that counts as they say.
Lastly thanks to everyone that has donated both their time, video and picture media (inc the great banners) to JW...this is what the site is all about at the end of the day.

...where members are in for a descussion, go into greater detail, learn from each other and by doing all this develop a good friendship, then this is all what i need to continue without asking for something at all including hundreds of "thank you" - regardeless how much of my little time will go into it :P
of course this^^^ is just a (recent) example of "what can we do to make JW a even better place" - a nice "thank you" is a start, conversations like seen in the link above is the future of JW, personally iīd like to invite u to keep that in mind and 2006 will be another great year here at JW :!:
see u out there,
cheers,
st-A :P
^ That is exactly one of the reasons why I come here. I think overall it is a great community. Especially since most of the members are from Europe and other parts of the world outside US.
Most of the other forums I belong to we do not get that. Case in point, Bimmerforums, every single comment about cars is ways "Needs a drop, clears corners, and Lightweight wheels." There is no discussion, there is no reasoning, and it gets boring really quick. Not to mention that it is rice!
Here I get to see what other people "across the pond" are thinking, what their insights are. As a CAR enthusiast I could not hope for more.
Thanks again for keeping this place up and running Jabba.
