Why arent there any Bimmers in DTM? I know Mercedes has always been there but now I see its an Audi Vs. Merc...What kind of German series is this withouht BMW? Why arent they participating?

BMW used to dominate in the DTM back in the 80's with the M3(e30). I quess that nowdays its kinda hard(in financial terms) to compete in both DTM and F1..

I heard that they might come back in DTM or Le Mans in 2008 but not quite sure how true it is. Honestly, BMW has been becoming quite dissapointing with their motorsport efforts.

Many years ago BMW used to give some grant to some drivers and teams in order to run the M3s; nonetheless, the reason that BMW doesnt take part in the DTM, takes part in the Formula 1,....depends mostly on the company´s policy from my point of view

those cars have sooooo much grip... its unfortunate the races are soooo short :?

i've wondered about BMW's lack of invovlement in the series.... the Japs in DTM??? seems even worse then thier invovlment in Nastruck

how many laps is a DTM race??
for a good comparo- Spa is 24 laps in DTM vs 44 in F1
superpole AMG Merc. 2:32.7(2:13 in warmup?) vs Lap record Mclaren merc 1:45.1

yeah i guess we have to look at how each DTM lap is much longer, so if they had to do the 44 laps that a F1 car driver does, the drivers would probably be wicked fatigued.

just sucks i would say for the fans!!

just as i said... its a pitty its so short :?

but then again, im an endurance race/rally enthusiast... less then 90 laps are for pussies  (non-f1/NS)

/\/\/\ It's a whole different beast man ;)

Those short races are tough because you are basicly doing qualifying pace the whole race on harder compound tires with bigger brake/engine ducts.

Now in an endurance race, watch any onboard video, the drivers are very easy on the car, I mean seriously easy. They drive WAY slower then their qual time.

For example just something us both can experiance.

In GTR I qualified in an online race today with a 2:12. I was doing 2:13.5. 2:14 in race.

If I was in an enduro I would be doing 2:18s ;)

It is not to say that one is better then the other, but its no way "pussy" ;) Tis tough man. I was watching DTM footage on Speed when I started this thread, and for that short period of time they are driving balls out.

pussies was ment to have a wink by it... oh well, just a tad more discussion

i love DTM... and i know those guys are doing near quali pace the entire race... few cars look as good, or get as wild as often as them...

thats prolly why Mika is doing so well in the series... balls to walls the entire race is very F1.

and yes, its quite easy to tell in enduro racing that they are going easy on the brakes/engine during the race... well, ecept during restarts from yellows lol.
