View Full Version : Shop name..
Well JW, I need your help.
I am opening a new shop over here where I sell racing wear, (Helmets, suits, harness, gloves, shoes, seats and some other items.) and maybe racing parts in the future.
My problem is I can’t find a suitable name for the shop. The name which I came up with is Touge which means a Mountain or something in Japanese. I got this name from Best Motoring video which I am sure most of you familiar with. But I am not 100% satisfied with the name, and was hopping that you guys can help me out with some nice one..
Thanks in advance guys... :D :D

ok .. soo if the name i suggest makes it on the top ...... you will send me a pair of Recaro's ?
how about 'high volt racing' ....... :fadein:
We got a shop over here called Torque Motorsport and he will be a competitor as he sells the Sparco stuff..
Two things in the world I can't decide.. Names and Colors..
saadie, I won't be Recaro dealer, but if I got a nice name from JW I will give out a nice little gift when the shop is open. What do you think about that ?

My suggestions
RACELAND
or just
RACING GEAR - siple and everyone know what they will find in your store
Colors looks good is yellow and blue(redbull-like blue), british racing green and yellow, dark red(993 turbo color) with yellow, were yellow is not screaming one but slightly darker yellow. Or those colors without yellow.

the Chequered Flag
Lap 57 (in reference to the Bahrain GP)

Finish Line Motorsport
thats all for now. Good Luck Evo!

Arman I like the color you are suggesting..Yellow/Blue.. but I think i'm going to pass on the names..
nthfinity, I like LAP 57.. I will keep that but still need more options..

'Car parts n shit'
We have a winner.. 'Car parts n shit'
Thamer you convinced me to take Racing Couture seriously now.. I asked my partner and he likes the name after I explained to him what it means..and as you said it will make people ask what does it mean..
Same thing goes for 2 other names one which was suggested by nthfinity which was LAP 57 (in reference to the Bahrain GP) People will ask what does it mean .
The last name was Touge.. japanese which I think means Mountain road or Difficult part of a mountain road or something like that but I think the names above have a much better chance ....
Thanks guys for your help.. if you got some more it would be great. When I decide on a name I will ask a Moderator to lock this post..

With regard to naming a shop and worrying about what people think it means, don't worry about it.
Unless you are hoping to get most of your business from people who walk past and say "Wow - a racing gear store - I think I need some racing gear" don't worry about the "meaning" of the name.
I am sure most of your customers will be people who know what you are about and know what they want.

You have a point their RC.. Most people won't notice the name they will be more interested in the product as you said people who come into the shop know what they want.. But it does not hurt if it got a nice name for it.. Hehehe..
I think i am going to ask my partner tomorrow for the finalization about the name.. one of the 3 names
1-Racing Couture
2- Lap 57
3-Touge Motorsport
Will let you guys know what will be the outcome tomorrow stay tune.. hehehe :D .

Cool! I like the logo too! Yep car racing helmet would be more appropriete imo :)
Congrats nthfinity :P
I like the name. Much better than xyz motorsport.
If you chose Touge, it would've been funny to explain to curious customers that your shop name is mountian...
If I may add a few comments about the logo:
The current one is fine but I feel that the checkered flag and helmet are too common. You see them sometimes on Go-kart tracks..
1. Have you thought about a rev counter similar to TopRPM. Or the silhouette or outline shape of a car...
Something similar to the irmscher logo for example.
http://img521.imageshack.us/img521/6914/vorschaltlogo8vn.gif (http://imageshack.us)
2. Maybe pick something that is radically different from the other shops. Something that will leave an impression in people's mind when they drive by the shop. Even if the person is not a potential customer, having an exciting/radical logo and sign will cause more word of mouth about the shop.
3. Keep the logo graphically simple so it can easily be printed and reproduced on your paper, stickers, products etc...
I hope my comments were helpful. Good luck with your venture :D
ARMAN: Yep a racing helmet is what's going to be on it. Hopefully the logo company will send me the revised version in couple of days and I will post it over here.
dani_d_mas: I though of that but then was worried about copyright stuff.. They might say that the design on the logo is the same as the one of their helmets and you know that I don't want a bad name especially with Simpson. :)..
Blip : Yeah Touge would have been a bit strange to explain
Yes I know what you mean about the rev counter thing but most of the tunning shop over here have that type of logo.. This is a bit different here that's why I like it..
Here are the other designs which were sent to choose from they look good too but I think the one which is chosen stands out..

Well with the old name Touge we tried few logos..

dani_d_mas don't do this to me.. :( ... I know now I will not like the logo which I choose..Well lets just wait until the current one is modified.

Thankyou! but please know its definately not why i posted a few possibilities, and it really isnt nessiary, owais... and i guess its a little unexpected
i am extremely honoured you chose one of my stabs at a good name. I hope it does wonders for you and your new buisness :)
i wish i could give some good comments about your logo... but i've never been great with graphic design myself... my experience with such companys has to be a 2-way effort... dont be afraid to critisize thier work, or to use their idea to expand your own. ;) after all, it is your future there
thanks again, and let us know how things are going... if im in UAE sometime, i'll definatly check out the shop!

Owais - some comments/ideas/suggestions about the logo
- yes you are quite correct - it would be better with a closed helmet rather than the motorcross helmet.
- an idea: maybe you can have the UAE flag in your logo instead of the chequered flag.
- or: keep the chequered flag and maybe add an Islamic crescent into the design?
- the less number of colours you use the easier and cheaper it will be to reproduce the logo on different materials, your headed paper, t-shirts etc.
I see you have blue and red and white, ideal IMHO.
The only other thing I would say is maybe smooth out the font you used for the word 'lap' or use the same font as you used for the '57'
Finally, watch out for Heinz on copyright issues*
*joke (it says 57 varieties on the ketchup bottles if you didnt know that lol)
Got this today from the the logo design company..
I feel that their is something wrong with it.. Don't know what..
TransAm, which fond would you recoment for LAP and 57.. ??

The flag and the background figure don't match with the helmet (colorwise)
Well they sent couple of other color styles..
Here are they...

The last one is the best when you look at the matching. However, the green is subjective to taste....I like it.

yep the green one looks cooler then the rest ...
maybe it'd look better if you used some dark colors ... umm or variations of green .... just one color makes it look too simple imo ... let me have a go at what im talking about
