Over the course of the last 8 months or so I've been in contact with some people at Automobile Mag which has its main office about 5 blocks from where I live. I finally managed to get an interview time slot for this coming Tuesday by which time I will also have graduated from Uni (that's happening on Sunday lol).

It's sort of been a lifelong pipedream to work for an auto magazine and while I'm still planning on going to law school, I really hope this works out and I get the job :-D

Here's hoping!!!

Okaaay...so...I just got back from the interview and all I can say is that I think it went pretty well. The theoretical 15-20 minute meeting ended up stretching out to more than an hour with the net result that I got introduced to everyone in the office and even to the young gent I will potentially be replacing. There's no definite word as to whether or not the job is going to come my way, but preliminary indications are pretty good. Mike Dushane (online editor for Automobile) told me he would be back to me within a week or so, but that I shouldn't expect to hear anything about officially hiring in until after X-mas because apparently HR stuff is slow as molasses in...well...December around this time of year. At any rate, it looks like I might well end up with a press pass to the NAIAS (assuming that I get the job). :-D

Congrats - an interview to be what? a reviewer? a writer?

Well, I'd be interning under their web-editor, but from what I can tell, I'd end up writing/reviewing a fair amount too as long as he thinks I'm up to par as far as seat-of-the-pants impressions go.

LOL....nope, I'm no Computer scientist....I can program if I have to, but I'll be picking up a Bachelors Degree in Physics in a few days along with a math minor.

I see - thats cool though mate. They must really be interested if their considering you as a reviewer with really zero writing experience - I envy you

I think I have said this before to you, but with a maths/physics background, law schools will love you 8)

Thanks guys, I'll definitely keep everyone posted as to how this plays out, but preliminary indications are pretty good. The person with whom I've been in contact seems to be holding off on everyone else until he gets to me, and he basically offered me the job 8 months ago at a point when I was unable to accept it. So...knock wood, now that I can, hopefully I'll be a press-man in 3 days :-D

Cool! I've just got my high school results out, but I'm not sure what courses I'll get accepted into. I'm also not too sure what I'll do in the future - it's too far away!

Good on ya m8!! Don't worry too much about figuring out what you want to do. Pick something you think you'd like to start off in, but I wouldn't recommend committing too early as you'll miss out on a lot of interesting courses you could take. I didn't actually choose my major officially until the 3rd year of my collegeiate career, but by that point I'd already figured out that I wanted to do physics. At any rate, good luck and I hope you find something that brings you happiness (and good money too hehe).

Is it really wrong that I want to do something like these two guys did, but do it during the commencement ceremony tomorrow?

Thanks for the advice! I'm intending to do some humanities majors in uni, maybe law, but I really have no clear idea with regard to career paths.
