ill have to keep this short since I am typing with one hand, but I went to willow springs international raceway today, ran some laps and crashed in T3 at about 90mph. Bike is fucked along with my ankle and shoulder. Dr said major sprain and a seperated shoulder... ill be out of commission for a while.

well the main things are headlight, subframe, and upperframe stay. I found those on ebay for about 150 each... that doesnt include any of the blinkers, fairings, exhaust, and other things that I have to inspect and see if they will need to be replaced. If I work Ebay right, I could possibly get her ont he road for under 1000. Just takes time and patience, neither of which I have.

First and foremost, I am glad to see you came out of this relatively ok. Crashing is a harsh reality when doing track days; it is bound to happen eventually. How bad is the damage? I know you shed a tear or two. Hell, it's better than shedding some limbs. I'm going to stop telling you to be careful because it seems everytime I do, something happens. :D

Nevermind about the damage. I just read what you listed above.

Give it some time and you'll be able to get yourself and the bike back together..

Sorry to hear about the crash mate.
As long as you learn something about your limits then it will not be in vain.
Big props to you man; you did it in a relatively safe environment.
Hope the recovery if smooth and that you will be back out there soon.

Chin up dude. Your body will heal; the bike can be replaced and this will become a war wound story

Other than that, sorry to hear this mate! Hope you get yourself sorted out ASAP

glad to hear your mostly alright, and im glad the crash happened at a track. hope the ankle heals quickley, and you can get the bike back on the road soon. My brother often sells parts/components on Ebay PM e46drew to see if he can keep an eye out for such parts.

yes a car is on my first list of priorities, since I have to be in a sling for a month, so that means I cant put any money in my bike for a while. Damn that turn three, found out there was about 6 crashes on it after my own, including my friend that I showed up with.

here are some more pics of the day.

When did the wreck happen? Early in the day - or late in the day?

The reality of not having a race title on the line and not having to "push the limits" every time will eventually sink in.. ;)

Until then, if you can afford to buy em, you can afford to wreck em - hey? ;)

Ok - I'll bite.. either you or the bike were out witted by the turn... so which was it? ;)

Admitting you made a mistake (which means in that bend on that day at that moment - you were out of your depth ;) is rather sign of maturity and strenght - not weakness... ;)

I think the problem may have been the tires, I prefer the d207 my self, I had gone through two sets of each, michilen, and dunlop, and always liked the dunlop, unless
I slaped on my dot race tires.

btw I got a pair of dot race tires for sale

I think I fell because of the m-1's under accelleration out of the turn. I was suppose to have pilot race tires, but right before I put them on they failed my inspection and I didnt have time to get new ones.

Hmmm.. not saying anything here.. but only a bad craftsman blames the tools.. ;)

So you high-sided under throttle?

Over riding/driving tyres or conditions is really not a problem with the equipment... right? ;)

Afterall, the the truly great race drivers/riders adapt to the equipment.. :P ;) hehehe - now all of us here are rank amateurs and bound to make mistakes every now and again...

"I over-drove it" is a valid and legitimate explanation... ;)

I never said I was a good driver. So I will say this. I am a shitty rider, I do not even compare to the majority of the world, and that is why I crashed. With this in mind, I plan on purchasing a mini-van and that will be my mode of transportation for both recreation and commuting.

Must be the codeine typing... ;) -- We all know you have already picked out the replacement bike for the R6 - you were in fact doing this as they were patching you up :P

BTW - if you search hard enough you will find a bunch of "knee down" out the drivers door of a mini-van pictures, so it can be done ;)

who cares, if nothing is on the line?? when you go out there you need to push it as hard as you can, its the only way you know where the limit!!

Not true.

Stupid people push-crash push-crash... wise racers riders "test" the edge and improve.

You only win if you finish.

well to test the edge, you have to push to know where it is!!

push-crash, push-crash is not the way to do it.

You hurt yourself, damage equipment and never win championships that way.

Pushing till you fall off is simply showing you don't know where the boundaries are - because if you did you would feel them and know what the next step would be.

I am sorry - but you will NEVER convince me that only crashers can win - while the odd crash on your way to perfection is unavidable, the real skill is knowing the feel of an impending erroneous situation and then getting around it - either buy asking for an equipment improvement - or backing off and realising the limits of the pilot/equipment combo has been reached... ;)

eithe way I was no where near the edge. I found out the other day my tire pressure was way too high for the track and set up for street. That is why I went down.

Highside... hmmm.. lucky you caught it... that's about the nastiest ay you can come off exiting a bend.

this is going to sound retarded, but can you explain the diff between highside and lowside?

RC45
12-02-2005, 02:35 AM
Low side is when your front understeers out from under you - imagine the front washing outward sending you tipping to the low sid of your lean as you enter the bend.

High side is when you are exiting the bend under power, and the tyre is spinning up and slides towards the outside of the bend in an oversteer condition - then suddenly regains grip flicking the bike upright and catapulting you over the highside of the bike outward toward the outside of the bend.

The flick can be very violent and send you up into the air and sending you crashing down breaking shoulders, necks, ribs etc.

A highside is pretty violent even though it is a relatively slow accident - it is the violence of the flick, that if you dont' catch it and kep you hands on bars send yo flying.

Corpse came out pretty lucky - I would rather catch the slide, survive the highside flick and shoot forwards and then wreck;)

I didnt exactly highside either. the reason I put up that gif, was becuase he lost it then, he was about to high side but sort of saved it, and went into a tank slapping high speed wobble. thats exactly what I did, and right before I gained control of the wobble I went off the track since I couldnt turn.... as soon as I hit the dirt the bike flipped sideways, so it really wasnt a high side of a low side. Imageing comming up to a left hand turn and just going straight at 90mph then the second you hit the dirt, the bike flips over. thats what happened.
