Need some DDR 400 PC3200 SODIMM memory.

Looking to get 1 gig or 2 gig stick....

Can't find many options though, anyone know which manufactures make this type of memory - preferably performance stuff

Doesn't matter what RAM you get, just run memtest86+ after installation to make sure the ram is not defective. Usually I just buy the cheapest ram I can find (with the same spec) and do the QA testing myself

In my experience, ram with samsung chips tend to be fairly reliable, never encounter any problem with them. Try to buy from a reputable store and minimize the chance of getting remarked (rejected parts from factory) ram.

You can get memtest86+ from http://www.memtest.org/

I just dropped in a 128 Kingston stick into my roomate's computer, (his Dell only had 1 slot with 64mb so i replaced it with the 128) problem is, i don't know how to explain how ram operates.

can someone give me a quick summary of it?

Having less RAM is like being drunk - the less you have the more drunk you are. You tend to forget things you are doing while totally shitfaced - the same as a computer with a limited amount of RAM, making it slower to remember things :P

You can store stuff on it when it's Random Access Memory

LMAO!! That makes alot more sense

So baisically it stores the info it gets in the ram until it needs it and then goesack and grabs the info at whatever time it needs it to complete a process?

that would explain why it took 5 minutes to load WMP last night with only 64MB
