As some of you might have read over here (http://www.motorworld.net/forum/showthread.php?t=33341), I had the wrong HD installed in my computer. I have now got a new one from the store and I've been told I can copy the contents of the current HD to the new one, without having to install my OSes all over again. A mate told me I needed a disk imaging program of some sort.

Now my question is, which program do you computer buffs think I should look for and are there specific things I need to look out for to make this transition work?

Thanks in advance.

Huh?

One of my last jobs before leaving for college was in a computer repair and sales shop. I bascially ran the shop when the owner was away. We used ghost all the time and never once had a problem.

dude dont argue with the bear.. he knows everything about everything and if by some slim chance of fate you find a subject about which he doesn't he knows someone who does.. taking this path can only lead to humiliation for yourself ;)

^^^LOL!

I'll give Acronis a try first then. When I turn out to be too much of a noob to use it and fuck it up, I'll try and sort it out with Ghost.

Thanks for all the suggestions fellas!

I used Norton Ghost at work too, the only prob I had was the buggy support for the USB HD. It worked, just a little bit slow in response for some reason. It transferred the data and OS over flawlessly so it's all good.

I use PartImage on Linux at home since it's free

I can't compare Acronis to Norton Ghost, because I haven't tried Ghost. But I can say that Acronis did the job. Easy to use, plenty of options and it worked flawlessly.

One thing though: never thought that wiping the old HD clean would take this fucking long!

Last time I wiped (8 pass) a broken 20GB hd, took me like 3 days non-stop!
