I was waiting for this one :) Uncool!!!

A car isn't made of numbers!!! It needs much more passion! It only looks nice in some colors, it doesn't sound very nice. And most of all, only guys who have a lot of money will buy it. It's a museum car !!! :x :P

Car just barely made it into the cool category for me.

OK it has 1000 bhp and is rare but
- it looks just OK - nothing special. I have seen it in the flesh and wasnt moved that much by it.
- It weighs 4400 lbs - yikes!
- Hasnt got a manual

Its a VW
Its been delayed too long
It weighs too much
The color schemes suck..except black
Not a proper manual gearbox
It overheats
It's only "that fast" in a straight line

It's going to one of those "look what I have" things for the super rich people who will never drive it how its made to be driven.

Just wait, you're going to see some seriously bad accidents with this car because people have more money than brains or driving skills. The first time some idiot opens this car up on a public road there's going to be people killed.

Uncool.

Best GT in the world. People think its overweight, those people obviously dont understand the reason for this car. The car was delayed but development time wasnt anything other high end cars havent been put through. The fastest. Most exquisite interior. Best semi-auto gearbox on the market. Bringing back the two tone of the old days. This car pushes every button properly.

It's a love or hate thing I guess. For me it's the first option. It may be a VW, but it has unique styling, an awesome badge and it just so happens to be the fastest and most powerful on road up to date, it emantes endless power. The perfect GT car. Sub zero.

And FUCK! I hate when you say it's a VW - is the Enzo a Fiat?

But it is a VW, for the most part. The car was developed with VW's technology (DSG gearbox, the engine, the AWD system) and resources.

And Ferrari has nothing do do with this, but whatever... Ferrari is independent of Fiat; each company does their own thing. That's not the case with VW and Bugatti. But you already knew that...

Uncool, impressive but not that pretty.

When you see one driving in real, you know it must be a journalist who is driving it. When the people who buy this car will ever drive this car, they only run it down the 20km straight of the VW test track. I.M.O Thats what makes it UNCOOL

uncool.

i liked the idea at first when i first read about it, but after all the production delays it just became retarded. No one is going to drive this car on the street, it's just going to sit in the garage and collect dust.

The looks are brutal but not what i would call worthy of a car with these kinds of numbers.

crazidude
11-19-2005, 09:45 PM
Heh I think it's seriously uncool. It's not the prettiest thing ever made, it lacks passion, shoved full of worthless technology and is way too heavy. It also lacks appeal. I wouldn't mind driving this, but buying, even if I had all the money in the world, is questionable. In a sense it's sorta like the old, possible new, Viper in terms of handling and drivablity. But the Viper is at a 1/10th of the cost.

It's SubZero for me, because it achieves quite a lot, even if it may be flawed in parts.

I havent heard anything of the overheating issues once this car has been produced and to believe it I'd have to hear it from a) a reliable source or b) a couple of sources who know what they are on about.

With ten radiators I should hope it doesn't overheat!

Interestingly, in one of the recent Top Gear mags, they drove the Veyron (not JC), and one of the comments was "it really doesn't feel all that fast in normal road driving, an F430 or Noble feels faster" [because of the turbo lag].

Another thing...where the fuck are some REAL test numbers?! I have read probably 6 or 7 different articles of journalists getting to drive the car for an hour, a day, whatever, but not one single real road test! Nothing to confirm or deny the Veyron's lofty acceleration or braking numbers...We obviously all know the car is insanely fast, but I am really anxious to see what exactly the Veyron will do, and we are left only with Bugatti's numbers. It seems all of the 'tests' have been more like 'first drives'...

I rate the Veyron cool:

I respect the Big Bug endless for it's amazing feats of technology, i mean come on. 1000bhp, four wheel drive and four turbochargers. Good looking exterior and an amazing interior.

My only issue with the Veyron is the fact that it does have 1000bhp; 260bhp is probably enough. 600bhp is more than enough; the Bugatti is just two fast; i believe in all around world usability your not going to get any where faster in the Veyron than you would in a CGT or a Zonda F. I'd also prefer a little less weight; i can tolerate 1650kg of a Murcielago; but 1955kg :?

It didn't need that quad turbo 16 cylinder engine to hit 250mph. But doing that effortlessly, in comfort, quickly, without any sort of drama, is another story. Besides, the packaging all that crap in in that small of a car is nothing short of marvel of modern engineering. It's still cool. Cool enough to be subzero.

And since when was being expensive uncool? That's a horribly flawed logic. Let's be honest, you'd never call the Hyundai coupe cool for any reason even though it's dirt cheap. ;-)

Hardly.

The issue with VW Veyron is that there's no spirit about it, nothing special. A very expensive and very fast car, and that's it.
And from technical standpoint, there's no genius in it, just a megaton of highly funded fiddling - double engine, four turbos, ten radiators... yes, very creative. As creative as a multiprocessor server.

Compare for contrast a Lamborghini (even the top model which costs about as much). But it's all on fire, it's got some serious spirit. By driving a Lambo, one produces an image of aggression and flamboyance, he says "I'm crazy for bullsrun!". What does driving a Veyron say? "Hey, I've got more hp than you!".

It's not as uncool as the H2, but hell it's trying.

Nonsense. You'd have to be a very boring person to say "I've got 360hp more than you!" is bad.

Besides, you forget that Lamborghini is run by the same people. Cough, Germans. And frankly, the new Lamborghinis are big disappointments in the drama department. I guess I'm too old school. Bring me a Diablo or a Countach or a Miura and we'll talk. And if you think most Lambo drivers bought their cars to do Bull runs, you're mistaken.

And since when was 1000hp + 1000ft lb = 250mph not aggressive enough, and the whole stinking leather + engine turned aluminum interior, ceremonial "top speed" key, matching $300,000 watch, and two tone paint with thousands of combination possibilities not flamboyant enough? :-P

Oh, and welcome to MW!

And if you think most Lambo drivers bought their cars to do Bull runs, you're mistaken. I agree; the Countach IMHO was the best Lambo done ever. To be more precise, after Countach they never did anything else, just variations on it... with varying degrees of spoilage.
Yes, most Lambo drivers probably aren't as crazy as the car screams, but hell, it does scream.

And since when was 1000hp + 1000ft lb = 250mph not aggressive enough Since you could get 1000hp from a tuned cheap car, perhaps.
Besides, since the Veyron weighs more than a good pickup truck, 1000hp for it don't mean as much as they would for something lighter.

Horsepower stopped to be cool pretty long ago, about by 80s I guess, the demise of muscle car.
Supercars aren't about performance, they are about being unusual, shocking, more than just a fast car. Like Zonda, like Caparo, like Enzo. The VW Veyron somehow lacks that, it's just a big Beetle with very big engine and stuff to go with it.

Whatever what I'm going to say isn't going to get through to you. If supercars weren't about performance, Caparo and Enzo wouldn't exist. And calling a Bugatti Veyron a Beetle because of the corporate tree, then you should call the Gallardo and LP640 a Beetle, call Zonda a Benz, and Enzo a Fiat. :-P

Caparo looks wacky, *and* offers performance (which BTW, would likely dust Veyron).
Enzo, not so much a performance car; the only really performance Ferrari for the last decades was F40.

But really as far as performance:price factor goes, all supercars are terrible deals; even if we don't take home tuning, look at how Atom dusted nearly every supercar out there. What's more, Atom isn't the best in its class. Some of the higher-end race/track tuned cars would perhaps beat Veyron by a good margin. It's not the point.

And about Beetle, it's not family tree, it's shape. EB110, that's a proper shape. But Veyron - take a Beetle, stretch it well, and you've got it.

It is THE Supercar, apparently it even handles.

I think if anyone here is saying uncool then tey are thinking more about perhaps the superrich buyers than the car it's self. If it had a stripped out interior and a manual gearbok would it be cool?

Ignorance is really a bless for some people.

If you see ferrari enzo, porsche, pagani or other supercar at 350Km/h it start to dismantle but veyron with 2tons can achieve 407 km/h in total serenity and safety without any sounds. And he just handles like a big lotus.

Evo8

BTW: You'd have to be a very boring person to say "I've got 360hp more than you!" - this phrase is true in this form.

But; Pardon? Enzo isn't as much of a performance-designed vehicle as F40. Significant shift towards comforts.

but veyron with 2tons can achieve 407 km/h in total serenity and safety Yes, that's one place where it's the best. Except there are only two or three places in the world where it can do that, of course, and 99% of its buyers will never take it there.
The car is simply massively overengineered.

If it had a stripped out interior and a manual gearbok would it be cool? Well, that would make it uncomfortable, and so cooler.
But it still lacks character. Too technical.

I think if anyone here is saying uncool then tey are thinking more about perhaps the superrich buyers than the car it's self. Both factor. A Porsche might not be a pure performance vehicle, but it still is the kind of car people take out on the track, actually using its performance. Will any Veyron be used there? Very unlikely.
That is the same factor as with Chelsea cruisers and Hummers - they are poser, their owners never intend to use their key feature, in that case, offroading.

What is for you the ultimate supercar?

This supercars are bad for you because they are really good, well engineered?

You do with them what you want.If i had one of thouse,i would drive it in race tracks, motorways,i dont like cars to pose.

The only bad thing i can see with this cars is the money you need to have to buy them.Taking it sky is the limit.

What is for you the ultimate supercar? Lamborghini Countach. It's the embodiment of the very essence of a supercar.

High performance, check. But performance is only the start (otherwise a Ralliart Evo would count as a supercar too, outperforming many of them). What it's got is massive, unique style, something that can never possibly be found on a normal car.

Really I'd consider an ultimate test of coolness the question - "How cool it would be, if it had a 150hp I4 under the bonnet?"
And in that test, any Lambo would still be sub-zero. Any Ferrari would still be cool. Aston would remain sub-zero. But would Veyron?

This supercars are bad for you because they are really good, well engineered? Most supercars are either poorly engineered or poorly built, particularly older ones; that doesn't make them any less super. And neither does good engineering alone make a supercar.
BTW in case of Veyron we have an example of overengineering (which is making something heavier and costlier than required for its purpose).

You do with them what you want.If i had one of thouse,i would drive it in race tracks, motorways,i dont like cars to pose. But you don't have one. That's the issue. And people who do get one are different.

It's not as much the price as other factors. Veyron is too comfy, it takes little effort to drive, it's something celebrities will be buying for showoff driving, to step out of it in Hollywood, and never use more than a quarter of the power. And it doesn't even look too special - the showoff here is about "Look at me, my car is so expensive!"

On the other hand, a Lambo Reventon, which costs about the same, has a whole different image - it looks great and unique, it's uncomfortable, it's got overwhelming character. Might be used for showoff too, but of a different kind, showing the owner has style and insanity, not just money.

Countach only looks and sound great but its a poor car in perfomance.

" Most supercars are either poorly engineered or poorly built..." What supercars? The old cars are really bad made but today almost all are well made.

Reventon vs Veyron.I will take the veyron anytime. Reventon is just a LP640 with carbon clothes.

Today than never the ultimate Ferrari is always better than the last. This applies to(almost) all supercar manufacturers.

Enzo isn't as much of a performance-designed vehicle as F40. Significant shift towards comforts.

A couple things

1.)
the Caparo T1 is all but dead... last I heard, it wasn't even on life support anymore, and all the major financial backers have pulled out.

2.)
The Veyron is a car meant to be daily driven, and there is no other "supercar" that can do that, with exception to the Carrera GT... in the hands of a couple owners. There are far more owners of Veyron's that put winter tread on their Veyron's then not if they live in winter climates.

3.) The Enzo is designed to be comfortable????!?!?!?!

OK, you have not been either the F40, nor the Enzo.... on the road, nor on a track.

I have been in both on the road for hours and hours.

The F40 has more comfortable seats, more head room, less noise in the cabin, and easier to drive at "city" speeds.... and in the city. Yes, your left leg will get a bigger workout in the F40, but other then this... the F40 is far more comfortable.

In the F40, there is a less harsh ride quality, both in pot-holed roads, and on expansion-joint high way.

the Enzo is loud, brash, noisy... may have power assisted steering, but doesn't mean the steering is too light, nor too heavy. The F40's steering is "only" heavy in sub 10 mph driving.

The Enzo is far larger in size then the F40... a majority of the extra weight comes from the hydrolic rams, and crash structure up front and in the rear .... still only a few hundred lbs more then the 20 year old F40.

A car which isn't cool if you put a 150hp I4 into it - such a car never was really cool in the first place. Lambo would still be cool with anything under the bonnet. Veyron not. Coolness != performance.

What supercars? The old cars are really bad made but today almost all are well made. Remember the Clarkson's fun with his Ford? And his is not the only one.
Supercars today may not be falling apart, but they're still less reliable than some cheap Toyota; they aren't about reliability.

It's the car which you put winter tires on and drive daily, without using 1/5th of the power, or any other things differentiating it from regular Beetles. Just like people driving Hummers strictly on the road. Performance designed to go to waste. A car to be driven by people without abilities or desire to use it. A very poser car.

So, it is a problem that people who buy silly expensive production cars are able to drive them w/out worrying about being stuck on the side of the road?

I disagree tremendously.

I don't think the Veyron is the best exotic of the modern era.... that is reserved to the Enzo... wretched styling (in a fantastic rock and roll type means) ... vicsious V12 that will kill you (yes, there are several dead owners), and world topping performance when it came out.... with the greatest race tech for the road available at that time.

Countach is one of the coolest cars in the existence - that is a well proven fact.
Yet it only has as much horsepower as an affordable family saloon (Lancer Evolution) with very basic tuning.

Lambo is just an example, same will go for other not-top supercars. They can't compete with tuned cars in terms of horsepower, hp/ton, pretty much anything but top speed. Yet they're far cooler, since coolness isn't in geeky specifications sheets.

Yeah, you don't NEED all that stuff to make a supercar. But if you DO have those attributes, that doesn't detract or make it any less of a "supercar".

The Bugatti i an engineering wonderland. It produces some of the most outstanding figures from any production car, and creates many firsts. It is most definitely unique. ;-)
