try the google toolbar. it has a built in pop-up blocker which blocks ads flawlessly. haven't had a popup in months

yep I vote for google toolbar too.. or use opera instead of ie ;)
but also get adaware and run that to get rid of any nasties causing the popup's, as there's plenty that do
google, and ad-aware (PM me if u want pro) are good...i had the same problem...try disabling msmsgs..not the same as msn, should calm things down

Thanks for the tips, guys. I've installed google.toolbar too. Google is a pretty respectable company, so I think it's trustworthy. Hope it helps.

If you mean Fire Wall instead of Wile, that is what I have. Haven't had a popup since I've started using it.

if it's one of those regular pop up ads,
http://download.com.com/3000-2144-10186632.html?tag=lst-0-1<---download and install that to remove spyware from your computer
http://download.com.com/3000-7786-10247859.html?tag=lst-0-3<---download and install that to block popups
if it's one of those grey messengers that comes up that you have to click "ok" to close, follow one of the following procedures:
Windows XP Home
Click Start->Settings ->Control Panel
Click Performance and Maintenance
Click Administrative Tools
Double click Services Scroll
down and highlight "Messenger"
Right-click the highlighted line and choose Properties.
Click the STOP button.
Select Disable or Manual in the Startup Type scroll bar
Click OK
Windows XP Professional
Click Start->Settings ->Control Panel
Click Administrative Tools
Click Services
Double click Services Scroll
down and highlight "Messenger"
Right-click the highlighted line and choose Properties.
Click the STOP button.
Select Disable or Manual in the Startup Type scroll bar
Click OK

I have all of these plus SpyBot- freeware that checks for spybots within your system. It's a very popular tool among geeks. http://www.safer-networking.org/index.php?lang=en&page=news
Plus, I am using SpywareGuard, a real-time protection device that stays in the background, uses minimal resources and , since using it I have had a dramatic decrease in spyware getting a hold of my system.
