umm not sure about that, cause there is someone that will always put you in your place.
though right now with all the penalties being called, you can get away with it a little more.
This is a sport though - having an edge anywhere is good. Sure you're right in one way - level headedness is a good attribute even in hockey (treating it as a business) but cockiness also helps create chances in sports as in life. So much of hockey is the passion. If I were a coach I'd want my team confident

what are u all talking about...Hull is playing for Phoenix...and he's stinking it up cause he doesn't has Datsuk and Zetterburg flanking him
he did, but he announced his retirement erlier last month
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=K7EJ4IOU
GLENDALE, Ariz. -- Brett Hull choked back emotion and thanked "everyone who ever touched my life in the game," announcing his retirement on Saturday from a career that left him the third-leading goal scorer in NHL history.
"I wish no one had to do this because it's so hard, it's hard because you never think you're going to grow older and be unable to live up to the expectations you set for yourself," he said.
The 41-year-old Hull, who had one assist in five games for the Phoenix Coyotes in his 19th NHL season, had to stop to gain control of his emotions, with his three children, fiancée and several former teammates looking on.
"There's an old expression, and I don't know who said it -- 'The mind is willing but the body isn't,'" Hull said.
Coyotes coach Wayne Gretzky is one of his best friends, yet Hull found his minutes on the ice diminishing.
"I realized I wasn't who I thought I was," Hull said. "I wasn't Brett Hull at 30 or 35 even. I was 41 years old and after a year and a half layoff, I didn't have what it took to play in the new game that was so exciting."
Hull's announcement came two hours before the Coyotes faced his former team, the Detroit Red Wings.
"The National Hockey League will miss Brett's skill, his scoring touch and his fun-loving attitude," NHL commissioner Gary Bettman said. "He was a splendid athlete, a passionate player and someone who never hesitated to speak his mind. His achievements further cement the Hull family legacy of hockey greatness."
Hull signed with the Coyotes on Aug. 6, 2004, lured by Gretzky, who was leaning toward becoming the team's coach. There was no 2004-05 season, though, because of the NHL lockout. When Hull joined the team, he found it hard to keep up with the younger players.
Only Gretzky and Gordie Howe have more goals than Hull in NHL history.
"I was probably more emotional today about him retiring than I was the day I retired," Gretzky said. "It's a new beginning for him and his family. I told him today he's going to look forward with a lot of great times with his kids and his fiancée. His records speak for themselves. He's a consumate professional. My dad told me today that I ran [an] 800-goal scorer out of hockey."
Before the Coyotes' home opener a week ago, Hull's father, Hall-of-Famer Bobby Hull, had his number "un-retired" so his son Brett could wear it this season. The Hulls are the only father-son players to each top 600 goals.
Hull had 741 goals and 650 assists in the former Minnesota-Duluth star's long NHL career with Calgary, St. Louis, Dallas, Detroit and Phoenix. He joined the league with Calgary in the 1986 Stanley Cup finals. He is second on the NHL career list for power-play goals (265) and third in game-winning goals (110).
"I don't think I've seen a better player shoot the one-timer," said New York Rangers forward Jaromir Jagr, whose 541 goals since the 1990-91 season are second only to Hull's 595. "It was a gift."
Hull won Stanley Cup titles in 1999 with Dallas and 2002 with Detroit. In 1999, he scored a controversial goal in the third overtime to give the Stars a 2-1 victory over Buffalo in the series-ending sixth game.
"I made so many friends, had so many good times," he said.
Hull played in nine All-Star games and was the league MVP in 1991. Hull played for the United States in the 1998 and 2002 Olympics, as well as in three World Cups. He was part of the gold medal World Cup team in 1996.
Brendan Shanahan, who played with Hull in St. Louis and Detroit, called him "a guy who spoke his mind, a colorful guy."
"A lot of the changes that are being made in the NHL, he should get a lot of credit for," Shanahan said. "He's been talking about these things for the last 10 years."
Hull said he wanted to stay in the game, perhaps in management, but never as a coach.
"I don't care what anyone says," he said, "it's the best sport there is."

Max Power
12-18-2005, 12:03 PM
well, Malone, Gonchar, Leclair, Rechi, Orpik, Thibault, Melichar, Whitney etc...
The only 2 lines that Therrien should keep is Crosby, Lemieux, Palffy and Christensen, Oullett, Surovy....
from what I saw saturday, Thibault has no confidence in stoppping any shot, Melichar took way too many penalties, Gonchar couldn't play defence if his life depended on it, Orpik is just as useless, Whitney for some reason was running the other point on the pp, and not a single person could make a tape to tape pass....Malone is just the biggest sack of shit in the world, Recchi is alright but he has no one to play with and so he suffers, LeClair is injured, and so basically unless Therrien can get those guys to play some d instead of doing nothing then they're complete useless bums....

it used to be the penguins until they traded absolutely everyone, Straka, Jagr, Kovalev, Morozov (not traded but not on the team), Hrdina, Tugnutt, Lang, Kasparitis, and then Lemieux got injured...the Pens/Flyers series was were it peaked...
technically I should like NYR, but Jagr screwed over the Pens so he can go fuck himself
...I was hoping that Malkin would play this year, and that LeClair, Recchi, Gonchar and all the new acqusitions wouldn't suck but they did...I still like the pens but they've let me down big time :(

pallfy was forced into retirement by the gm if you read between the lines.
his doctor told him he could play the rest of the year. but with days left in the Fleury countdown to the AHL, he retires and they tell the goalie he can play the rest of the season
somthing is fishy and it isn't Crosby being a pussy again
Toronto
01-19-2006, 03:13 PM
the gm just said to him, you retire now, or we will say you signed a 3 year contract knowing you had an injury and he would loose all his money
Pallfy did the smart thing, and prob got paid 3mill. under the table and set free.
either way the pens suck balls and would loose to most AHL teams, malkin coming next year isn't going to help them that much,
no D 1 line teams can only do so much (yet atlanta is proving that wrong, but crosby is no Kovalchuk, as Kovalchuk proved when he whipped the floor with crosby in their first game)
Max Power
01-19-2006, 03:16 PM
Pallfy retired from the slovak team too, and his doc didn't recommend him a 3rd surgery...Thibault is done for, and Caron is complete shit, the pens had no choice, although Patrick said that 'the organization was all about winning' and well that's bogus.
...either way if the pens don't get a new arena, well i don't wanna c them move to houston
...kovalchuk is in his 3rd year, crosby is not, the 2nd best player on the pens is maybe Oullet, who's another rookie, Lemieux has heart problems, Gonchar can't play d with the new rules, but hten neither can the rest of the team, Tarnstrom has gotten injured, and all the free agents have been shit up to this point. The pens have Morozov and Malkin to maybe fill in for offence next season, and Fleury is playing great with the worst d, the coach is fine.....and well the management has always been shit, jagr wanted 11 mill and pittsburgh only offered 9.5, and let him go...
Toronto
01-19-2006, 04:01 PM
crosby is the most over rated player since Sam Bowie (you might want to look that one up)
...kovalchuk is in his 3rd year, crosby is not... jagr wanted 11 mill and pittsburgh only offered 9.5, and let him go...
Jagr is worth 11 mill. hell forsberg is worth the 11mill he got.
as for kovalchuk
3rd year means nothing, you good no matter what year you play, people have been comparing this guy to kharlamov since he was 16 or younger.
Kovalchuk is better and always will be then crosby any fantasy player knows that
Toronto
01-19-2006, 04:09 PM
^^^he is prob. going to be MVP... if you have the money he is worth it. you don't want him on your team? have you seen the guy play he is a beast on the ice, big, fast, one of the best shots, and hands like no-one else
can crosby to this?
http://www.break.com/index/amazinghockeygoal.html
i know he wasn't looking @ the net when he let the puck go.
the fact with years of coaches yell @ you to always keep the puck (i remeber getting yelled when I was like 8) on your stick when driving to the net. and he does that perfect in this goal
Max Power
01-19-2006, 07:13 PM
experience matters, compare kovalchuk's numbers from his rookie year to now, and he had heatley on his line, he's gotten better with every year, so
3rd year means nothing, you good no matter what year you play
is complete bs...lemieux didn't score 200 pts in his first year and neither did wayne. And as for Jagr, he left a hugely stacked team to go to a pos team for an extra 2 mil :fist: , and what is he earning now...
ovechkin has adapted to the league better cause he played the lock out year in the super league against nhlers, and kovalchuk is a pure sniper, typical russian forward
...and y all the crosby hating, he's the only one trying to do anything...that is if u actually seen any of his games
Toronto
01-20-2006, 02:27 AM
ya i watch his game today, and he played like a baby
Prucha just owned him
Max Power
01-20-2006, 08:37 AM
ya i watch his game today, and he played like a baby
Prucha just owned him
haha, yet he managed a goal and set up the other one too....
...yet he's got no linemates worthy of talking about, so I still don't understand all your hating...Ovechkin and Crosby are both playing on pos teams and while they're the main threat and facing the #1 d they're still avg more than a pt a game....
but that doesnt stop him from being over rated which he is, i dont see why people cant see that
how is he overrated...because he's suppose to carry the pens like mario, well he's leading his team in every category, i think if anything he's lived up to the hype...and may I just point out that the 4th leading scorer on the team is rick jackman with 24 pts. and one player has more than 10g (Palffy) Mario is not there, Pallfy retired and Recchi plays on the 3rd line. All I'm saying is that him and fleury are the only reasons y Therrien hasn't shot himself yet
plus how can u judge his future nhl career on 47 games...where's the hating for him coming from?
Toronto
01-20-2006, 03:40 PM
crosby will never be as good as ovechkin, can you name 5 d, and 5 forwards on was.?
that is the team he is playing on. crosby should be getting more points, but no...
people looking for a 'complete package' Thornton?
and you don't need a 'complete package' look @ orr, kharlamov, gretzky, mario...
all those guys where forwards (yes orr prob. the greatest player, was a D-man but he took more shots on goal then the forwards on his team )
pens = suck untill they move to winnipeg :P
Max Power
01-20-2006, 03:54 PM
man did u even glance at the post...they're both playing on shit teams, and yes Ovechkin is been on a complete tare, but the seeson is not done...and i come back to the fact that ovechkin has played at a higher level before.
and how can u judge anybody on half a season's play, man Sid could break his back tommorow and never play again...
whatever, hopefully nobody is going nowhere, and pens stay in pitt or best case move to Hamilton

Toronto
01-20-2006, 04:25 PM
the fact is ovechkin has 7 more points, in 3 less games, his team has more wins.
he is better. crosby is over rated to the max.
people said the world junior team will suck and loose to the russians this year with out him, and what happened? he has been hyped of since he was 12 or whatever and never lived up to it, plain and simple.

i don't remember saying he's the next great one or what not, besides I prefer Lemieux to Malkin and Malkin to Crosby...the only reason i like the pens is cause of lemieux....i am not hyping up crosby but he's all the pens got.....and if he's the future of the franchise than I am not all that disappointed
Toronto
01-20-2006, 04:37 PM
well i never said you where hyping him up, just the mass-media,
