A friend of mine works on a rig in the North Sea, 2 weeks on, 2 weeks off. 12 hour shifts, you cant drink alcohol on the rig, you have to have a lot of safety training so your medical training would be a bonus. He has no degree and was training to be a plumber before he got this job.

Pay is about GBP50000 per year. He drives a Supra TT.

I can put you in touch with him (email) if you like.

Tnx transam, I would like to contact the guy. But ask him first if it's ok...

I don't mind long shifts and don't drink a lot of alcohol so don't care about that ;)

I'll see what I can do. 8)

Rigs are like ships... no-one has a single lazy special job ;)

You need to be able to fulfill other roles.. and as a "nurse" on a all-male crew rig in the North Sea - you may be filling other roles ;) :P

here in mexico you need one basic course to be on an oil rig. They teach you how to use lifesavers, fire extintors, make some SOS signs, find your way on a dark room full of smoke, etc.
I was going to work there, but life didn't help me and I'm back at home. I talked with ppl that had been working for more than 20 years in oilrigs/platforms, and describe life up there very hard.
the pay is excellent, food usually is good. But one of those "urban-myths" are the gay orgies on oilrigs :|

it could be a great experience and you would only work on what you know. Only in case of emergency you could need to do more things

I have actually never heard that - and really wouldn't consider many of the rough and tough blokes gay anything.. ;)

Do also realise it is a very dangerous work environment.... and just this week a gulf oil rig supply vessel last a deck hand in a "crushing" accident.

The ship rolled and the deck hand was crushed betwen 2 small containers - the pay is high for a reason ...
