they do have a drug that can cure avian flu, it's called tamaflu (spelling?) i have a prescription for it and really don't like that it's so close.

Well the spanish flu was a strain of the avian influenza...but completely different from todays' strain

Unles you live in east asia i wouldn't get too hot and bothered over this. Or you work in a cock fighting place

edit:there is no known cure for ANY virus. Antivirals might help in treating the disease, but there is no cure

Last 5 days in every news and newspaper there is something about bird flu. İ am really scared about this. İ didn't eat chicken and turkey last 5 days and i won't eat until bird flu will disappear. everybody on Turkey is scared and really it changed our life actually our menu.

why are we only paying attention to the avian flu?
influenza is like the 3 biggest killer in north america and prob. up there for the world.

Right now, our government has a sample of the 1918 strain taken from a frozen corpse that was found in Siberia I believe. Since there is a similarity in both strains, scientists are hoping that they can learn much from this strain to combat the current H5N1 virus.
According to current debate, and it's only conjecture at this point. Scientists believe that a pandemic like the 1918 one will not occur in 2005-2006, but that a situation could happen in the next few years.

Well the potential of a pandemic is quite low, because even though there has been transmission of a new strain, the levels of infectiousness is quite low

i got sick right when i started hearing about it, that got me a little nervous. What are the symptoms of this virus, just wondering that is Im sure i dont have it.
