IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT REGARDING JW : UPDATE

Well following on from the highly positive thread yesterday regarding the new server for JW.

We have decided to go ahead and order the new server. Its a 100 mbit, dual cpu with a couple of big sata drives and alround big bad mother fucker and being set up by Dan as we speak.

If we cant cover the cost then its tough shit for me and Dan will be working his nuts off for nothing yet again.

We have read all the suggestions and great ideas posted up yesterday and while it will be impossible to please everyone it is clear that there are some ideas that are more popular than others.

We are going to go with the donations idea and my thoughts on this are that we could make two official days for making the donations on. Xmas and the JW official birthday in June. The reason for this is that the dates are nicely spaced apart and over the years people have put money towards buying xmas and birthday gifts for the admins anyway....I can only speak for myself but I would prefer that any money that was going to be used for any gifts (which are a PITA to buy and ship anyway) could be donated to the running costs of the site instead...and that is something that we can all benefit from.

Donations and amounts donated will only be known to the admin team however there will be extras to anyone that does donate :

Custom Title that can be added by the donator on his / her profile page

Possibly an Official JW Email address depending how easy that is to implement on a large scale

FAST Server Space for video and image hosting.....extra space maybe available based on the donation amount.


We will look again at the possibility of JW merchandising and perhaps can run some competitions to find designs which will not be in breach of any copyright regulations and a small amount from any items bought will go towards the running costs of the site..

This is just a rough idea of what we are considering and nothing is by any means agreed or promised at this stage.

If I follow you correctly the answer is that it is up to the individual if he / she wants to give something back to the site at xmas and on the sites birthday...everyone will be able to afford different amounts so I don't think its fair if we try to force anyone to contribute a particular amount.

I have paid for everything since 2003 so its not going to be a complete shock if it falls a little short.

Glad to hear about the new sever, I'm also glad that theres some resolve to the problem. Im sure come xmas and birthday, a nice sum will be made, and the whole idea is clever and I can see why you came up with it. Let me say, I think its a good idea, fair and hope it all goes well. Hope everythings going ok for Dan at the momment since I bet hes doing his coding magic, and well done to the whole admin team.

Ok... so as far as I've read, there will be two "special" days for donations - Xmas and JW birthday, but we can donate whenever we want actually. That's ok :D

As for the extras... the "custom title added by the donator", will it be like the MSN, that you can edit it whenever you want? :? about the JW email addres... I've been using Gmail for a while... so (for me) it's not necessary actually :wink: . And for the "FAST Server Space for video and image hosting"... what does it mean exactly? that we're able to upload our videos and pics hosted by JW? sounds great to me! :P

It would be better if you could save the money up for those two dates as you might feel bad if when the official times come you haven't got any money left for JW pressies.

Having said that I guess some people if they are like me will not want to wait until December and will want to make their donations and get their custom titles right away...so I think Dan might be cooking something up for everyone that just cant wait.

i like these ideas. this site has meant a lot to enough of us that we're willing to donate so don't see this being a problem, nor do i think anyone expects anything in return (after all, we're already getting a pretty sweet website for free, what more could we want, c'mon). i'm gonna wait patiently til the payment plans are worked out. and as always, make it something reliable, safe, and user-friendly (hopefully paypal falls under that category) cuz i'm sure i'm not the only who is really paranoid about paying for things online.
