I saw it on the news. But as your walking along the streets watching programs or videos, won't you walk into somebody or a lamp post maybe??

Yes, just what I was thinking...

I used to dream of a little thing that could play videos, but in reality it's all about the size of the screen... And the screen on the iPod is just too small...

plus i dont think it has the capacity to play TG or 5th Gear

Well, you could probably, but you'd certainly have to encode it I guess...

As when you want to watch movies on the psp, or on my k750...

But I still desire it though..

You can plug the current 5G iPod to a display. I think it is a boon for those wanting a massive portable video player with the elegance and simplicity of the iPod.

It comes in 30GB & 60GB capacities so could probably pack 100-200 TG or FG episodes

The question I have though honestly.. Is there a market for it.
small portable dvd players cost practically nothing nowadays.. So it cant be to watch movies.

The majority of people seem to have quit caring about music videos years ago judging by mtvs playlist.

And I just cant see a large volume of people paying to watch their favorite tv show on a 3 inch screen.

I dunno, it just doesnt seem all that feasible to me.

Well, in the end, the video feature is something that's just there... Noone uses it, but you can use it if you want to...

Actually, the best news for me is the better battery capacity, the size, and that it's cheaper... It should have had fm-radio though... :?

No one's offering TV shows for sale for download. Neither is anyone selling music videos for download. All the downloadable full length shows are all pirated. Apple is trying to do what it did to digital music downloads, making it legit and easy to aquire.

iPods are smaller than your typical DVD media and even if some iPod users will not use it to watch vids at least they get a capacity upgrade, better & bigger screen and an all black iPod.

This is just me but if a FM receiver will add to the price of the iPod (I'm sure it will) then forget it. With up to 60GB worth of music & podcasts radio doesnt seem that interesting anymore. Unless you need it to hear the news.

Also the cost per download is $1.99 vs a DVD which hovers between $5-30.

The downer is the resolution... I was expecting low resolution on the built in display and at least 480i on external displays. :?

More pointless gadget crap.

Suckers will line up and transfer their wealth to APple... yet again ;)

Why not just save yourself the trouble and send Aple a$500.00 cheque every year... it would be easier and simpler :P

on a side note, futures for apple look bleak; and the new announcements today didnt seem to aid in its share price

its already on hte apple site
thats a lot sooner than i thought

Apple is crazy about doing that.
Within minutes of the Ipod being released it was on apples site and I was able to purchase it. Crazy how they can run up 100,000's of units of an item and have them ready to ship out before it ever even leaks out that such a product exists.

The cost to download a tv show.. A dvd is usually a bit longer then a single show if its a tv dvd.

Yes but unlike music, does anyone actually want that enough to pay for it. When you download a song you listen to it over and over again. How many times do you watch a tv show?

The problem with TV shows on DVD is that they come after the season has ended. You could get Lost a day or less after it was first broadcasted from iTMS. Using your own arguement why buy the TV show DVD when you're just gonna watch it only once? Audio CDs are one thing but actually buy a Season DVD that costs a $50 or more?

Before services like iTMS came about people downloaded like mad for music from Napster/etc but once a reasonable DRM & price scheme and very convenient way came about people flocked and bought downloadable songs.

At the moment you need to use Bittorrent or other p2p networks to download TV shows and the time it takes to download depends on how well seeded it is. Could be as short as a few minutes or could last for days. Applying the same principle of selling music to TV shows allows an easy & fast way to get your favorite show and compensate the owners of the show.

In the end if you dont have money or a credit card to pay for it you will still download pirated shows but I believe there are enough people in the world who'd want to pay (a) because it's the right thing to do or (b) they dont mind paying for the convenience. The Internet is just another distribution network that the entertainment industry is just starting to discover.

Highest end iPod costs $399 & the new iPod sports a 2.5" display. If you find the display too small hook it up to your TV. Some friends of mine were able to buy Lost from iTMS and displayed it on their TV from their PC said the picture/sound quality were surprisingly great.

Apple's lower stock price is attributed to their supplier not being able to handle demand (http://www.businessweek.com/ap/financialnews/D8D6N47GB.htm?campaign_id=apn_home_down&chan=db). This has been Apple's best quarter ever and the downgrade in stock price is because analysits expected too much. If this is Apple in its darkest moments I'd love to see it doing very well.

The new iPod is poised to ship next week or earlier.

If Top Gear was available on iTMS moments after it being aired on the BBC I'd gladly pay $1.99.

The problem with your thinking is that the portable music revolution was started before Apple could even spell it. It started with the first Sony Walkman, and ever since then, people have wanted a portable way to play music.

That's because you can do a lot of things while listening to music i.e exercise, clean, walk, jog, hang out, go to work...

But there really hasn't been a market for portable video players. Sure, those portable DVD players had gadget appeal while they were new, but now the shelves are full of them for low prices, and still on one wants them.

For me, the smallest screen i might want to watch video on is a 12" ultra-portable laptop display. Very nice on a plane journey or a long train journey. Who wants to go blind from starring at a 2" screen for any extended period of time. That's why eBooks in any portable format are crap, and why no one wants them. Also why the PSP movies aren't exactly selling like proverbial "hot cakes"

This is just an excuse for crApple to put in a useless feature, start new ad campaigns, hike the price, and part fools with their money

Stupid to put vids in there. I'd take the nano anyday. Rather see videos on my 24"
