After taking a look at the members locations it's obvious that English isn't a native language for 70 or so per cent of us. I just want to know were did you learn it?

My family had satellite TV for as long as I remember. I think my dad installed the first dish in 1990. There werent many chanels though. 18 I think. I was watching Cartoon Network 24/7 because rest of the chanells were in German. I remeber Deutsche Welle, and some others. Plus English is mendatory in Ukrainian shcools, so I picked it up from there. Now I live in Canada, so I have to speak it on daily basis.

Whats your story?

In Holland English is given pretty well at school. Plus after my exams I went to Australia for half a year so that sure helped a lot. But I guess where I picked English is from the television and songs. A lot of programs are in English and have dutch subtitles. That's my story...

Studied in an english-speaking school. When I was a kid, there was only one school that taught all the clases in english and my parents sent me there. So here I am, studying in the us and knowing english better than my motherlanguage.

5 years of english at school, but I'm improving a lot in those last 2 years because I try to understand lyrics, I went to JW so I have to speak english, I read all the articles in the net about the cars ( in fact I don't even look for Italian articles, in Italy even if we have Ferrari, Lamborghini, Pagani, Alfa Romeo, Maserati the interest of the media for cars is sub zero).

And of couse watching JC and Tiff is a good training!

I had english for about seven years at school. But I also learned a lot from music, dutch tv (as htfaber said, most english spoken series, movies etc. have dutch subtitles) and also from BBC of course. I followed Top Gear from the age of 11, so one learns a lot from that.

Brazillian schools teach english, but just the basic.
And english is everywhere, music, internet, TV. I already knew the basics, but I think I just got a little bit better with internet.
Obviously my english sucks a major ass, and I belive I wouldn't be able to speak properly if I need to.

Yeah, man. I get that all the time! I look at the World Map and I just can't believe there are other countries out there! I mean...damn! They should all drop their culture and languages and embrace the English culture and language!
I have always tried not to flame you, Beav, because I like you, and you're really a nice guy. But this time your igorance just pissed me off. For Christ's sake! English is your first language, yet you can't friggin' spell! You're surprised there are other languages out there. OMG! Can you even point Europe on a map? Please, Beav, pick up a book once in a while and start reading more, man!

Lol, thats the same as me. I just cant remember when my dad got the dish. I remember watching cartoonnetwork 24/7. Thats the only channel that I was interested it. Regular TV sucked ass. It had about 5 channels and it was either news, politics or politics on the news.
