View Full Version : JW Check Card fraud victim #2...
Some mother fucker got my card and bought a cell phone on Oct 1... and then used the card again to pay for the bill on Friday...
The stiffed me for $73 for the equipment purchase... and $250 for the cell bill on Thursday.
Only the cell bill amounts posted Friday - which is why I picked them up when went to get a statement like I do every Sunday evening.
The $73.26 purchase of the phone didn't flag any warning signs because I had purchased $73 worth of stuff from the Home depot aroun the 3rd of October - so it wasn't a red-flagamount.
The $200.00 and then $50.00 purchases were very suspicious.
Card cancelled.. banks fraud division is on the trail of the scammers... and the money should be back my Wednesday.
Folks - be aware, be careful... be alert... TRUST NO-ONE!!!!

cock sucking bastards! :bad-words: have you tried clling the phone company to find out where the phone was purchased at?
The amazing thing is... I mean they only got my Card Number... nt the actual card... yet the cell compay allowed the phone to be purchased.
It was probably an inside job then.
I mean, aren't they supposed to see the card for equipment purchases over the counter?
I can see them being duped into accepting a card # over the phone to pay a bill, but not to purchase equipment.
wow some people are bein unlucky lately with card details.glad to hear they are on the hunt for them though RC and gonna get your money back.shame there are fuckers that would do this to people in the first place though

Well if it was a contract phone there should be some security checks surely?? I just bought a new sim free one and had to email copies of 2 forms of id just to get them to dispatch it, easy to fake though i guess :bah:
Maybe an over the counter pre-paid phone?

Maybe an over the counter pre-paid phone?
well unless it works differently to here $250 is alot for a pre pay, i was surprised with the security here, one company would only send to my home (billing adress) and this other one pestered me for ID before dispatch, something i'm very wary of sending over the internet!!
Anyway be nice if they could get hold of his phone records, could track his general area/ movements if they wanted to. Seen it in court cases before though whether they would bother i don't know, considered a fairly minor crime in the grand scheme of things i guess :bah:

UNless they are using other peoples records to commit further crimes - this is a big problem as well.

Any idea where the point of sale was for where the card got (ab)used? Houston?

where does that sound familiar???
back on topic, i hope they nail the 'white collar' twat, and hope he gets put away for the maximum penalty. its my experience that even after release, they still do the same frauds (worked in retail, and closely with the people in the fraud area)

Don't worry, you will get your stuff back. This sort of happened to me too a while ago.
As long as they cant proove you were the one who purchased those items (they dont even have to find the scammer), you will get your money back.

Well, you really do want the cops to find the scammers - because if they commit crimes using your name/phone account/SSN/credit card/driver license etc, you can be in jail trying to clear yourself if you don't get things in the cops hands early on.

Oh well if that dood has your SSN and the rest then yeah thats fuked up. If it were just charges made to your CC# then you are ok. I guess I didnt realize that USA requires ssn for a sale and registration of Cell Phone.
Hope he gets caught!

It sucks for sure, hope they catch the bastards!
I lost my phone on the weekend and only cancelled it today, so when I get the next bill I'll see if anyone use it for long distance calls. :(
