A new series, with cars from prestigious manufacturers, for gentlemen racers, as part of the program of FIA GT series. Cars will be restricted by weight (to make power/weight ratio even) instead of engine power.
2 teams of 3 cars per manufacturer (im not sure if thats realistic tho :? ), and a winner also for each manufacturer (so a Porsche winner, Ferrari winner etc.)
titles that can be won:
• A GT3 European title for drivers
• A GT3 European Title for teams
• A Champion for each GT3 Manufacturer Cup.
Selected Cars
The FIA will homologate ‘Cup’ cars in the GT3 class, which have already been produced
by a number of manufacturers.
These include :
• Dodge Competition Coupé,
• Ferrari 430 Challenge,
• Maserati Trofeo Light
• Porsche 997 Cup.
And will welcome the first GT3 cars produced for the new series :
• Aston Martin DBS9 (Prodrive)
• Lamborghini Gallardo (Reiter Engineering)
• Lotus Exige GT3
• TVR Sagaris
• Venturi GT3 Heritage
Other Manufacturers are evaluating the possibility of preparing existing road cars for
the Championship.
Suitable cars will include :
• Corvette Z6
• Ford Mustang (Saleen
• Marcos
• Nissan 350 Z

calendar: 5 races in 06, 6 races in 07, all on european circuits, in the race weekends of the FIA GT series. 2 drivers per car, each will drive in 1 of the 2 1-hour races per weekend.

and some other news: the 400hp Lotus Exige 300RR GT racer will race in the China round of the FIA GT series :D

this part seems the rather stupid IMO... the touring car championchip offers more to win, or lose... and more competition then drivers just trying to be in front of the other porsche... or other venturi etc.

I think it will be a nice new series, but I got the feeling it will end up with a field of Porsche 997 Cup cars and a few other brands driven by gentlemen drivers. So basically you end up with another Porsche cup....

nah all the manufacturers have at least 6 cars, i think it'll be pretty even if it all works out...and the lambo racer has already been announced :D and some others already excist, Ferrari F430 and Maserati 4200 both have race versions, and also Aston Martin DBS9...im not too worried about that (only that hte porsches are gonna win everything lol :P )

wow thats awesome such a large variet of cars, FIA GT is the best sportscar series, European Le Mans and especially American LeMans fuckin suck, plus supposedly the FIA GT cars are around 3 secs quicker then their ALMS counter parts (as of 2003 i think)

there are limits to how much the cars can be modified, i guess to keep it affordable for enough teams, and ofcourse also to keep the cars slower than GT2/GT1 :D

but the one I want to see is the F430 N-GT!

Judging from the 360 ngt the 430 should be very brutal!

The FIA GT3 official test driver has begun driving the GT3 cars on paul ricard...some NICE cars in there :D (he's driving them to try to find a setup that'll make all cars roughly equal).the cars that were driven are: 997, maserati trofeo, gallardo, viper, vette, 350Z, ascari, exige, DBRS9 (which set the fastest time of the day)

So, as far as I know,.....the GT3 rule is based on a mixture between the former Cup supercars such as the maserati 4200, the 911 GT3.....(the grN specification cars) alongside some supercars based on a grN modificication....however....does anyone know the minimum number of supercars units produced in order to be valid for GT3 rules....since if there is no number of units or other technical limitations, ferrari or a private team could modifie a ferrari enzo, mclaren F1, zonda, porsche carrera GT and take part with those cars
