Civic Engine Swap.

Ok, so if i dun sell my civic, then id def. wanna swap the engine. cause i wont mod an engine that is 127hp 111ft. torque -.-

Has anyone ever swapped a Honda Civic EX 1998 engine?

couse i know its possible to put another engine into it, but i dunno what kinda nor were i could obtain one(cheapest). ^.^

if anyone could please help. id greatly appreciate it.

This is off topic and I dont mean to be a bitch but a civic is an economi point A to point B car. It doesnt need anything extra.

With the money you'll spend on a Civic, another engine plus the swap you could get your self a little sports car like a Miata.

Plus what will you gain from an engine swap? It will still remain slow, and it will still be a Civic...just my advice.

but i have a friend that has a 2.0l DOHC vtec engine from a prelude in his.
and that little car. will knock ur socks off.

imreally not sure what kinda engine i could put into it(what will fit).

SFMDALEX, i cantget a miata, as i am 6'2. i barly fit into the civic:P
only "sports car" i can afford atm is something like a nissan 240sx or something like it. but iv liiked everywere, and none are selling that are 1. stick shift 2.lower miles.

P.S. alex, iv also already purchased the civic. i paid for it with cash.

If you're looking for a low mileage jap engine, forget it. You aren't going to find anything under 100K.

It's going to be hard to snatch up a Prelude motor for cheap. It's highly sought after.

What city are you located in? anywhere in AZ and i can give you the number of a shop that could really help you out.

well, find a 240SX, or 300ZX. The Z's are insanely fun :D Maybe an RX-7 would be a good choice.

well I can tell you this I can get you a discounted RSX type-S engine (K22 I believe) only problem is getting from Chicago to Washington but I guarantee it will fit and it starts with 200 hp probably the best engine option aswell.

haha im pretty sure the engine would be pretty light. and T-bird its a K20A2. but if you want around 200hp you can also look for a B18C5 from the old american ITR's.

As a FIRST car I would not recomend(just my opinion) a crazy powered car for sure. It takes time to pick all the knowlege of driving/braking/calculating. Maybe I am wrong :?
I thought Civic is a great first car :wink:

an ITR is short for Integra Type-R. the engine is about 195hp~ish engine code is B18C5 for the american one.

first up, Yanlokov, hit up some honda forums and read a bit and do some research. you dont seem to be very knowledgeable on the subject, and the more info the better

the motor in your car is the D16 sohc Vtec that was in the EX model. this motor is a great base and responds well to mods. Research that, cause you can even get turbo kits for the car.

A motor swap is a costly proposition, no matter what you do. Not only is are the motors 1400+ then there are the mounts, and tranny parts you may need, wiring harnesses and ECUs if applicable. for a basic B16 swap (say a b16a1, 160hp vtec DOHC, you are gonna need a budget of abot 2300 bucks to do it right, not including labor)

the most common swaps are :

B16 - DOHC Vtec - 160 - 170 hp depending on series (a1 or a2) found in DOHC del sols (94+) and the 99+ Civic Si models here in the US

B18C = 180 or 195 hp depending on series (C1 or C5) found in Acura Integra Type Rs , they didnt bring many Type-Rs over here in the US so most motors are JDM, the C1 isnt too bad price wise, but the C5 (higher compression) is more expensive

H22 = Prelude motor, 200-220 hp depending on what car it was in and where it was sold. the heaviest 4 cylider, but also the most powerful FWD motor, harder to swap, and throws off the cars weight balance,. but fast in drag trim

K20 = Expensive, but awesome. the current new trend. somewhat harder than a B16 or B18 swap, but 200hp.



i have done numerous honda swaps, and they are easy.... but investigate what you have first, you may find it fits the bill just fine.

the civic is a "economy car" but with a lil tlc and modification, it can be quite the performer. bashing it just because it doesnt have the hertiage of some makes, or that its fwd, or that it is cheap, isnt really fair. I have owned crxs that ran quarters in the 12 sec range, all motor, and i have built turbo hatches that ran 10s and 11s. The realtime racing team has proven on a track, a FWD can be competitive on a equal playing field. Honda makes a great chassis, and fabulous engines. just cause they arent your "forte" , doesnt mean they are worthless in the performance arena

I think the most difficult swap i was in no was an LSVtec into a 90 Integra. And most of the difficulty came back with the cylinder head :? :lol: up until he decided to go along with the adjustable AEM camsprockets :?

Isnt the b18 not too uncommon nor mostly jdm? cus didnt they use the same motor in the integra gsr? Also ive heard of a bore and turbo kit that will make your engine 2.0 or 1.8 then add a turbo. That would be more then enough power prob.

OK well I did a GSR swap at work the other day and it took the whole of 4 hours and voila it started right up the guy had his Civic hatch with the Single cam Vtec and we put in the GSR motor (very common B18C1) he got the perfect engine and tranny for $500 after selling his old engine for $500 and everything fit up to the old wirring harness and then with about 30 minutes worth of time on the Honda computer the thing was running pretty, the only thing is you need the headers from the Integra a cat from a Civic and the pipe after that from the integra and the last section from the Civic or spend $500 and buy a kit from someone.
